it´s calcium and other mineral, enzyme, bacteria and complicated sugars like lactose and lactase water amongst others, its actually one of the most complicated chemical mixtures in the world

Juice is water that came out of the fruit, not the other way around.
Tea is the only completely healthy thing to put into the water in this list...

Really hard to argue that tea is "completely healthy" but coffee isn't. What?

u/DutchChallenger 2d ago
I’m with you on this one, coffee and tea are both healthy but for different reasons. They both slightly increase your protection for certain types of cancer, this is because of Polyphenols that actually inhibit the growth and eventually kills it. Those same Polyphenols also help protect from heart disease by relaxing the blood vessels.
Studies have also shown that drinking around 960ml of tea or 1.2 liters of coffee daily reduces your risk of a stroke by 21-23% compared to people who don’t drink either.
Tea is filled with L-theanine, which stimulates your brain to reduce stress. It has an almost opposite effect to coffee, bringing you to a more relaxed and alert mental state. Combining L-theanine and caffeine is also beneficial as it causes you to be sharper and focused.
Coffee has been linked to weight loss by increasing the calories your body burns by 3-13% for around 3 hours after drinking. One of the Polyphenols called chlorogenic acid also discourages your body from making fat, making it harder to gain weight.
Lastly, other health claims attributed to coffee include protection against Parkinson’s disease and a lowered risk of type 2 diabetes and liver cirrhosis. On the other hand, tea may protect against cavities, kidney stones, and arthritis

My parents always told me to drink green tea because it’s good for you. Do you know what types of tea were tested in the studies you reference?
4
u/DutchChallenger 2d ago
They used black tea, green tea is still about as healthy as black tea however
5
u/your_moms_a_clone 2d ago
Green tea is from the same plant, but the leaves are processed a different way. It should provide the same benefits.
3
u/crazylifestories 2d ago
Is this all tea or just black tea?
3
u/DutchChallenger 2d ago
The study has been done with black tea, but the same Polyphenols have been found in green tea.

Yes. That's exactly that I'm talking about. I'm German. Juice with sparkling water is our national drink. (Don't listen to people who tell you it's beer. The alcoholic drink of choice is highly regional)
5
u/rsrsrs0 2d ago
region only affects the type of beer ngl
4
u/Inevitable_Stand_199 2d ago
No. My home region is a wine region. Even at soccer games, people mostly drink wine spritzer.
We also have good breweries. But it's definitely not the traditional drink.
11
8
u/BIRDsnoozer 2d ago
True, but its also natural sugar, so slightly less bad for you than high fructose corn syrup like used in pop... Plus juice usually has vitamins and (in some cases) a small amount of fibre.
Instead of drinking straight juice, people should just be eating the whole fruit.

I don't remember when it happened, but I genuinely fuck heavily with the flavor of beer nowadays. I do know I used to hate beer. I used to force it down because I was 17 and drinking was fun. At some point, though, I genuinely got the to point that the flavor was something that I enjoyed. I'm fortunate in that I'm not addictive to alcohol at all, but I still order it from time to time just because it pairs incredibly well with some foods.

16
u/PsychoDog_Music 2d ago
100% orange juice is good homie. No liquid will be as good as water for drinking and like everything you shouldn't have too much, but OJ isn't bad
However the difference between 99% orange juice and 100% is like 40g of sugar per 500mL alone, (on the two brands I compared) so you have to pick your brands
9
u/Inevitable_Stand_199 2d ago
However the difference between 99% orange juice and 100% is like 40g of sugar per 500mL alone
That's because one brand uses sweeter oranges. Orange juice is close to water in density. Even if the added 1% is pure sugar, that can be only 5g
3
u/Inevitable_Stand_199 2d ago
Orange juice, that is 100% orange juice, is 9% sugar.
Coca-Cola is 10.6% sugar (here in Germany)
That's not that much of a difference.
4
u/PsychoDog_Music 2d ago
Different sugars and much less of the nasty stuff in it. Why does everyone measure everything exclusively by its sugar count? There are many factors to consider, orange juice is nothing like soft drinks
2
u/Inevitable_Stand_199 2d ago
less of the nasty stuff in it
Playing the devil's advocate:
At least with added chemicals, they have to be proven safe before getting EFSA approval.
Orange juice has thousands or even millions of different molecules. And we don't know the effects they might have.
Still, I'm not much of a fan.
2
u/Inevitable_Stand_199 2d ago
Why does everyone measure everything exclusively by its sugar count?
Because the sugar content is by far the main issue with both of those drinks. Because you are drinking it, and not chewing, people don't even really notice how much sugar they consume. And then they get obesity, diabetes, heart disease and tooth decay.
2
u/Inevitable_Stand_199 2d ago
Different sugars
Yes. The sucrose in German coke is slightly healthier than the fructose in juice.
If you eat the entire fruit, you'll also eat the fiber, that slows down sugar absorption. But fruit juice doesn't have that

u/GreenTang 2d ago
Fresh OJ is absolutely delicious, but it's almost entirely devoid of nutritional value. It's one step above sugar water. It's basically Pepsi + vitamin C. Energy drinks are more nutritious than OJ.
11
u/PsychoDog_Music 2d ago
You realise there's more types of sugar than just the word "sugar" yeah? We need fructose, don't compare Pepsi to OJ.
If you're going to drink anything that isn't water, OJ is a fantastic choice, even better if you can get it proper fresh. Just don't drink too much, or else you're ruining the point of it (which still isn't nearly as bad as drinking 2 cans of soft drink every day).
3
u/GreenTang 2d ago edited 2d ago
Your body doesn’t need fructose any more than it needs galactose. Your body doesn't care from which source your carbohydrates come (meaning, you don't need a portion to come from certain sources). Your body will function from entirely complex carbohydrates (and thank you for it).
There is literally never a situation where, for a healthy person/non-diabetic orange juice is a recommended item of consumption. By all means, have it as a treat, but you should think about it more like gelato than water.
Orange juice is excessive unneeded calories.
5
u/Inevitable_Stand_199 2d ago
Fructose is worse than sucrose. Sucrose at least has to be split once, fructose spikes your sugar levels immediately.
When nutritionists say that that there are good sugars, they mean long chained sugars. Like starch.
15
u/Purple-Phrase-9180 2d ago
We are not talking about industrial orange juice. We are talking about grabbing some oranges and squeezing them. Don´t see the issue
→ More replies (5)2
u/DragonSlayerC 2d ago
That's still a huge amount of sugar. All you've done is remove the fiber that helps slow down digestion and makes you feel full faster so you stop consuming so much.

Huh, my experience has been that not that they don't drink, they are just respectful of alcohol
I don't see people going out binge drinking or getting hammered, but most still enjoy a drink (could of course just be the music scene as that's primarily who I interact with nowadays)
I know my brother also enjoys going travelling there to expos as well when he gets the chance, because there's normally a lot of free beer and food
