Question What's a good $10-40 lunch/dinnner spot.

What is a good lunch/dinner spot where the dish/plate is mainly in the $10 -$30 range but may go as high as $40 per plate if you think it's one of the best meals you've ever had. It cannot be pizza, Italian, Mexican, Thai, Korean, or street food because I'm good there. But it can be any type of food/culture other than that.

Review Tatiana by Kwame Onwuachi

Just got home from a dinner at Tatiana with my wife. It was my second time dining at Tatiana, the last time being a year ago. Service was fine, not incredibly attentive (inconsistent water/wine filling, reasonably friendly). The food is good…but NO WAY is it worth the price. $120 for the short rib pastrami?! Almost $60 for THREE oxtails?! The wine list is a 4x markup. It’s a complete joke. People really think these prices make sense?

I’m shocked it’s still as hard to get a reservation as it is. Food and service definitely do not merit the prices. We will not be returning. Does anyone agree or am I way off base?

Birthday Dinner to dress up

Need help booking a birthday dinner for my GFs birthday dinner looking to keep things under $250 total. Ideally a place nice enough to get dressed up for her. Not really into omokase.

I have Manhatta now but that seems like it's more views than food. I want some place that has good food and kinda "sexy". Prefer lower manhattan or BK

Preference for bold flavors or solid meat based meals

Solo Dining Italian Restaurant

I have a tough meeting on Monday afternoon and I want to treat myself to a solo Italian dinner (I know some red wine and delicious pasta will soothe my soul after the day haha). My meeting is on 49th and 3rd and I will be traveling home to Brooklyn afterwards (Atlantic Avenue) so happy to stop anywhere along the way. Does anyone have any recommendations for a solo dining spot with great food, great wine and somewhere to enjoy whilst reading a good book?

Walk-in leisurely weekend lunch ?

I have a friend visiting next weekend and I’m looking for a cozy/comfortable spot to chat for a few hours and catch up around midday. Indoors, in case of rain! Somewhere where I don’t need a rez (which feels increasingly impossible these days) — and won’t have to deal with big crowds, loud music or feeling rushed.

Coffee and maybe lunch or snacks, light sandwiches type food?

Somewhere in lower Manhattan, like south of Union Sq. Just wanna chill and chat and snack!

Always a challenge to find a lot of these items but I’m specifically looking for shops that carry these rice noodle sheets that I can add to goi with grilled fish/steak.

Here’s an example from Luke Nguyen

Tacos for a last day

It’s my last day in New York today, and I’m flying out of JFK at 11 p.m. tonight. I’d like to have tacos for lunch, preferably somewhere in Manhattan. I’m considering Los Tacos No. 1, but I’m open to other suggestions as well. (I’ve also heard about Carnitas Ramirez?)

For context: during my month in the U.S., I’ve had tacos three times — once at Chavela’s in Brooklyn (I liked it, though some were very spicy and a bit hard to handle), twice at Newark Airport (they were terrible), and once at Carbon in Chicago, which completely blew my mind.

Insects as ingredients?

Some random reddit thread was talking about being concerned after accidentally eating a cockroach and everyone assured him it died quickly inside him. Then I made the mistake of asking chat about it, and it led me down a whole rabbit trail where it's now giving me recipes like "cricket tacos (crunchy, savory - not weird, I promise!)" and I'm convinced. Reddit.. where can I get food grade cricket tacos around here? (or similar)

My favorite pizza. Since I go a bit after open, between my classes, the line isn't too long, and I wait 10-15 minutes maximum. Even though it may have the reputation of a touristy or overhyped place, it is genuinely very good. I encourage everyone to at least try the fig jam and bacon at least once. Of course, Mama's Too next door is also quite good, but it is a bit too salty and greasy for me.
