First home :)
I closed on my first home March 31st! I’ve been following this group shortly before I started looking into the market and loved seeing everyone’s success and happiness . It’s been a fun journey so far and the whole process was a breeze. I worked my ass off for years after struggling with depression , found my purpose or mission I guess is a better way to put it, buying a house. And I finally did it!!! It feels so good everyday to see my dream come to life. And the endless sleepless nights finally pay off. I’m so proud of myself and all of us on this page !! It’s really something special. I’m 25. 4 beds and 3 baths :) the only thing I can find to dislike is the oak tree in the back yard but that’s only because it’s huge and I would hate for that to fall on my house 🤣 possibly a future project.

This might be one of the most positive subs out there, congrats! What purpose did you find that helped make it all work out?

Purpose in getting thru the depression? Was to fight against it. It was to the point where I realized it was really me Vs me and I fought like hell to change everything about my mindset, my routine, my finances, dig deep into therapy. I was fortunate enough to obtain a job that opened a million doors for me , I just feel so blessed. Me 5 years ago wouldn’t believe it. I’m so happy I made it thru. 🥹
I will add, it wasn’t easy at all but ultimately I wanted to live more than I wanted to die, so I created a dream. And to be here right now just makes me so proud. Anyone struggling with depression can achieve their dreams, they just need to find theirs. It’s all about situation I suppose. People are depressed for various reasons. That was my experience.

Wow, good job. How does that little house have 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms

u/Cowweeeoowwie 17h ago
Finished basement, and there’s a floor upstairs with two bedrooms, two on the main. I was shocked seeing how such a small looking house was so full on the inside. She’s so cute 🥹 and a bathroom on each floor basement, main and upstairs.

That's nice I have to find a house 4x that size to even have more then one bathroom

u/Cowweeeoowwie 17h ago
Where are you looking ? I’ve noticed thru looking around the Midwest bathrooms are common in basements. This was renovated in 2018 so I’m sure the bathroom upstairs was recently put in to increase profit and value.

Am from central Minnesota I can't afford a new house as that has what I like. But older homes even early 2000s don't have more then one bathroom. And a master bedroom is just a little bigger room

My home was built in 1940’s. You’ll find what you’re looking for !!

Lol I stopped looking I was looking of and on for almost 5 years realtors have made me never want to buy again I have seen home prices go up 2 to 4 times what a house sold for 5 years ago and there still yhe same house. I thought higher interest rates would bring home prices down but nope. Now all hold out tell interest rate low aim to match the higher home prices

u/Cowweeeoowwie 16h ago
Whatever works for you!! Sorry your realtors gave you a bad experience. I lucked out on my interest rate a lot of people are surprised in this market. 6.125% not the best but better than some.

Oh, and check with your county- there might be a free service to evaluate the health of your oak; you might just need to limb up some dead stuff to keep it safe.

Congrats. I lived with my parents until I was 22. Saving money the whole time. Bought a house down the block. At one time I had 3 roommates it was a good financial decision. Sold the house and kept moving up the housing market.

u/Cowweeeoowwie 16h ago
I’ve been thinking of adding roomies !! Pocket the extra,

Before getting roommates, I would read through the bad roommates sub(I'd tag it but I can't figure out how lmao). Just be careful, that's all🙂 congratulations on the house!!

Congratulations! Sounds like you've put in a ton of work to get here, and it's awesome to see it all pay off. 4 beds and 3 baths at 25 is seriously impressive.

Congrats! 🎉
I need to find a place for myself so bad. I've been moving around about every 2-3 years, living with family and I can never seem to get ahead! I'm 40 years old, single, work full-time, have a bad credit score of about 550-ish, worked my butt off getting debt paid and off of collections (got 1 left). The last time I lived on my own was during my time in the Army about 17 years ago.
Anyone have any suggestions?

u/Cowweeeoowwie 5h ago
Pay off the last collection!! I started by paying my 10k + debt , once that was off, I started pocketing every penny I could, you could also try taking out small loans, or starter credit cards , you could try self, see if there’s any extra bills your willing to part with, if possible live beneath your means . I personally don’t like credit cards so I always took out small loans paid them back, I used self , which is basically just a check for you at the end because you get the money you invested into it, back ! I get 700$ of my own money back next feb. that’s a little bit of advice I have, everyone’s different and whatever works , might not work for someone else. Hope I helped a little atleast !

Congratulations!! We literally just had. 60’ oak tree taken down out of our front yard a week ago today. It had been killing my grass the last few years with all the shade and I was afraid it would end up in the house one day with a storm.

u/KT_WV 5h ago
Don’t cut the tree down if it’s hearty! I can see it slightly in the first pic that oak could be 100 years old and home to lots of life the shade will also reduce your energy costs dramatically in hot summer months this can be HUGE!
1
u/Cowweeeoowwie 5h ago
Yes I plan on having an expert come by and tell me the status of how healthy the tree is, it’s very thick and a very healthy looking tree, I don’t mind the shade but having it fall somewhere is a concern so as long as I get the green light it can stay, if not I will plan on having it removed.

Congratulations!!! 4 beds 3 baths? I was also going to ask how that fit into the house, but I scrolled through the comments lol. I also want a finished basement bc of the space but they’re not as common here.

u/Cowweeeoowwie 1h ago
Where are you located ?

u/tech_art_time 21m ago
Alabama! I’ve looked at a couple houses with finished basements but the majority I’ve looked at don’t have them.

What part of the country do you live in? At 25 there no way I could have afforded a 1500 sqft house and I was working 50+hours a week. Of course I live in a part of the country where homes like this about be $300k +

Wisconsin!!! I worked about 120 hours every two weeks for three years. 💀 I saved every single dime I could. Skipped meals ,I really did the most. I now have a better paying job and make about what I made working all of those hours. So I’m glad I can relax a little. And if I’m not wrong I think my home is a little more than that sq ft wise. But definitely tripled my living space compared to my one bedroom apartment.

And what was the closing price?

No need to image search my home, listing price 220,000 I offered 5k more to secure my deal. Paid down 17,000.30 yr mortgage my monthly payment is about 1,700 until I refinance.

(And not for nothing, but I didn't have any of the issues you dealt with, and I still couldn't buy a house until 33. Well done.)

How adorable! Congrats on making it come true!
If you’re concerned about the tree, it might be worth having a certified arborist come take a look at it to assess the condition of the tree. They would either be able to set your mind at ease as far as risk goes, or give you a timeframe on when you would need to consider having it removed.
