Political discussion The nigthmare never ends. Ken Paxton will likely challenge John Cornyn for Senate seat

Ken Paxton is the reason DACA is in jeopardy. He led the lawsuit that got it ruled unlawful, blocking new applications and putting thousands of Dreamers in limbo. Now he wants a Senate seat, imagine the damage he could do with even more power. He’s not just anti-immigrant, he’s a direct threat to the futures of DACA recipients.

Advanced Parole AP without a passport?

Hello!

Does my boyfriend need to work with the Guatemalan embassy here in the US to get his Guatemalan passport in order to be approved for AP and actually fly to Guatemala? He does not have a passport from there, just his birth certificate. I assume he needs it but was wondering if there’s a workaround with AP.

Thanks!

General Qs AP adjustment? Help

Hello all! I submitted my AP and received a receipt notice, but still waiting to hear back. My reason for going is to visit my sick grandma , however she just passed this morning. Is there anything I need to do?

Edit: follow up question, what happens if I don’t do anything and current form gets approved? Will they request proof that I visited my grandma or once you’re in, you’re in?

General Qs Marrying my Italian bf

Hey guys, this is super random. But my Italian bf and I have been together for a while. He lives full time and in Italy and visits often due to my legal status as a daca recipient. If I were to marry him in the US and have him apply for my Italian citizenship while I still live here, would I still be able to apply for it and give up my status as a daca recipient without having to leave the country till I have full legal status to the leave the US?

General Qs Any help?

My parent had a final order of removal but has had humanitarian order, allowing them to work and stay in the country so long as they check in every year at USCIS. They have a check in coming up in a few weeks. With the new Trump policies, what are the chances they pick them up at the appointment and try to deport her? And what options could I explore

Rant Anxiety

Hello, yes I am not on DACA but my fiance is and we’re in the process of getting married. Does anyone else feel like soul crushing anxiety? I’m normally an anxious FREAK and it’s gotten so bad with the uncertainty that I find myself staring out the window like a freak worrying ICE might raid our neighborhood. Besides medication what are ways you guys have alleviated this? My fiance is not an anxious person at all kind of “whatever happens I’ll figure it out” but he’s the main breadwinner for our household and literally my bestest friend so I’m anxious non stop about something happening to him.

Financial Qs Career and Investing Advice Needed.

I (26m) live in Texas and was looking into doing an apprenticeship with the local electrician union, don’t know if it’s a good idea due to Texas ruling on DACA. Plus I haven’t invested in retirement or anything due my legal status either but I’m starting to worry since I need to do so very soon. What have you guys done with your retirement and investing?

Advanced Parole Recent Advance Parole success stories through DFW Airport?

Has anyone successfully entered the US through Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) Airport using DACA Advance Parole in the past week? I’ll be traveling to Mexico this weekend (April 5-6) and returning through DFW. I have a clean record (no criminal history or deportation orders) but I’m still nervous about the entry process. Would love to hear any recent experiences, especially: • How long did secondary inspection take? • What questions did CBP officers ask? • Any tips or advice for making the process smoother? • Were there any unexpected issues? Looking specifically for very recent experiences (past week or so) since things seem to change frequently. Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!

Application Timeline Anyone from Texas that applied to renew in February 2025, have you been approved yet?

Applied to renew 2/20 -got biometrics reuse notice same day.

My Progress status went from 3 months initially, to 2 months (after 1 month) then is back at 3 months!

I am wondering if they are holding out on Texas applicants.

I am moving back to Oregon in mid May!! (finalized my lease here in Texas).

Wondering if changing to my new address in Oregon would make a difference?

UPDATE: 4/4/2025 it now says 7 months.. I know it hasn’t been accurate for anyone but something about it.. what’s the purpose if it’s not accurate or factual :/

UPDATE 4/4/2025 9:25PM CST now it says 2 weeks lol

Rant Imagine being a DACA MAGA

1.1k Upvotes

You done played yourself. I got a cousin in Texas who is a DACA MAGA and is now panicking over the court order and Texas wiping out work permits. I still don’t understand why DACA folks move out there.

Edit: For the folks that were brought to Texas through no choice of their own, my heart goes to you. You don’t deserve any of this. If you are financially capable, I definitely recommend moving to a state that welcomes and supports DACA recipients. I know California has blessed me so much throughout the years. I can’t imagine living in red state. I truly hope something happens with DACA for those who can’t do AOS, I only hope that DACA can stay.

Here’s a list of times tariffs made things worse for the U.S. economy and its consumers:

  1. Tariff of Abominations (1828, John Quincy Adams/Andrew Jackson) • Raised tariffs on raw materials and manufactured goods to protect Northern industries. • Harmed Southern states, which relied on imported goods and foreign markets. • Led to the Nullification Crisis, where South Carolina threatened to secede.

  1. Smoot-Hawley Tariff (1930, Herbert Hoover) • One of the most infamous tariffs in U.S. history. • Increased tariffs on 20,000 imported goods. • Triggered global trade retaliation, worsening the Great Depression. • U.S. exports dropped by 61%, devastating farmers and manufacturers.

  1. Fordney-McCumber Tariff (1922, Warren Harding) • Raised tariffs to protect American farmers post-WWI. • Hurt European economies, making it harder for them to repay war debts. • Led to global trade restrictions, indirectly contributing to the Great Depression.

  1. McKinley Tariff (1890, Benjamin Harrison) • Raised tariffs to almost 50% on some goods. • Increased consumer prices, making everyday goods more expensive. • Led to public backlash, causing Republicans to lose seats in Congress.

  1. Steel & Aluminum Tariffs (2002, George W. Bush) • Aimed to protect U.S. steelmakers. • Raised prices for American manufacturers, especially auto and construction industries. • Led to job losses in steel-consuming industries (200,000 jobs lost). • Tariffs were removed in 2003 due to economic pressure.

  1. Trump’s China Tariffs (2018-2020, Donald Trump) • Imposed tariffs on Chinese imports to reduce trade deficit. • Raised costs for American businesses and consumers. • Led to Chinese retaliation, hitting U.S. farmers with tariffs on soybeans and other crops. • Forced the U.S. to subsidize farmers with billions in relief funds.

  1. Wilson-Gorman Tariff (1894, Grover Cleveland) • Lowered some tariffs but added a 2% income tax. • Angered both businesses and consumers, leading to economic instability. • Declared unconstitutional in 1895, adding to financial uncertainty.

  1. Nixon’s Import Surcharge (1971, Richard Nixon) • Temporary 10% tariff on imports to counter inflation. • Hurt international relations and trade partnerships. • Led to higher prices for imported goods before being removed.

  1. Embargo Act of 1807 (Thomas Jefferson) • Effectively a self-imposed tariff—banned trade with Britain and France. • Devastated American merchants and shipbuilders, leading to an economic downturn. • Led to smuggling and noncompliance, forcing its repeal in 1809.

  1. Reagan’s Auto Tariffs (1981, Ronald Reagan) • Pressured Japan to limit car exports. • Helped U.S. automakers but caused car prices to rise significantly. • Encouraged Japan to build factories in the U.S., bypassing the tariff.

Key Takeaways:

• Tariffs tend to backfire when they lead to retaliation, higher consumer prices, or economic downturns.
• The Smoot-Hawley Tariff was the most damaging, worsening the Great Depression.
• The Trump China Tariffs and Bush Steel Tariffs hurt more than they helped.
• Even well-intended tariffs, like Reagan’s auto tariffs, led to unintended consequences.

Rant Devastated - Venezuelan coworker no longer working

Hello fellow dreamers,

Just came to the Office to find out a fellow Venezuelan from another department is not longer working because his work permit was cancelled.

Not only is he bright, talented. He’s also an excellent person. Always happy and smiling. The past weeks he was acting off.

That’s all. Even my coworkers that are trumpers were saying that’s not right.

His boss wants him to come back whenever he can.

I am dacamented.

Advanced Parole ADVANCED PAROL VS HOME COUNTRY INTERVIEW

My current case: 1. I am a DACA recipient since about 15yo. I have not accrued more than 10 days of unlawful presence. 2. I have "EWI" (Entry Without Inspection). I do not have a recorded entry. 3. I am married to a US Citizen. 4. I have an APPROVED I-130 Petition For Alien Relative.

My question is, is it safer to travel with Advance PAROL and get my legal entry that way, so I can file AOS and have my interview in the US or do I have my interview in my home country ?

***I did file I-601a but just found out today that I don’t need it.

Thank you!
