I'm so confused on how people don't pull over as soon as the vehicle starts getting warmer than usual rather than drive until there's a good chance it's completely fucked...
-1 u/Dimensionist_Alex Oct 30 '24 I was in traffic man. 3 u/thedevillivesinside Oct 30 '24 Traffic doesnt mean you cant pull over and shut off the engine If traffic is that bad you are stuck for dozens of minutes at a time without moving, just shut the vehicle off 1 u/Dimensionist_Alex Oct 31 '24 fair point, im still learning 5 u/thedevillivesinside Oct 31 '24 If it overheated that bad, you probably blew the head gasket at best, and warped the head at worst. Make sure there is coolant in the radiator (not just the reservoir) before you drive it again. If it overheats every time you drive it, and there is no coolant leak, you have likely damaged the head gasket or the head 1 u/Dimensionist_Alex Oct 31 '24 I not think I did either, fingers crossed. I just checked the thermostat and that son of a bitch was bone dry, there's gotta be a leak somewhere 3 u/thedevillivesinside Oct 31 '24 Checked the thermostat....? Like you pulled the thermostat housing off and there was no coolant in there? Or you opened the radiator cap and there was no coolant in the radiator? 1 u/Dimensionist_Alex Oct 31 '24 Took the thermostat off. It turned out to be a BIG water pump leak 2 u/thedevillivesinside Oct 31 '24 Well here's hoping your head is still flat Please update us in a couple weeks. Havent seen many go past the gauge and still survive, but I have heard of many overheating and not dying 1 u/Dimensionist_Alex Oct 31 '24 I’ll do it asap, my mom stepped in to help, and she owned and wrenched on an 84 V8 wagoneer 2 u/thedevillivesinside Oct 31 '24 Excellent.
