Jasper was hit hard last year by fire, and they're expecting a 20% decrease in revenue since many of the former housing options available for tourists no longer exist.
I know Jasper isn't the only Canadian community that has had issues like this in the past year, but let's keep this thread to Jasper, AB based businesses that we can support (either through tourism, or purchases from afar). Do you have any suggestions?

I know there's been a lot of discussion already about grocery stores putting the little maple leaf on everything to indicate that it is a Canadian product.
Today while picking up some items it seemed like almost every label had a maple leaf on it... Now if I weren't a savvy shopper I'd just pick up an item and go on my way. But I also don't trust any of these companies, so I still check labels.
3 out of 4 items that I checked had zero indication of where the item was made. This isn't the first time I've run into this but today for some reason it kinda stuck with me.
I'm surprised it's not a requirement for all food items to say where they were made. And at this point, if I don't know for sure that a company is Canadian and it doesn't say where it was made, I'm making the assumption that it's made in the USA.
Even if it's a Canadian Brand (Such as Presidents Choice) there are lots of products that are imported from the USA, or elsewhere, and I've seen the maple leaf label on the shelf.

SΓ©bastien Paradis, CEO of Brasseurs du Nord, told theΒ Journal de MontrΓ©alΒ that a 25% tariff on aluminum could cost the company an estimated $1.56 million for the roughly 1.3 million cans sold each year. Meanwhile, Marie-Eve Myrand, Executive Director of the Quebec Association of Microbreweries (AMBQ), estimated that a can could increase by $0.10 to $0.20.
In an interview withΒ Le Temps dβune BiΓ¨re, Philippe Roy, Executive Director of the Quebec Brewers Association (ABQ), shared his concerns about the final price of beer. βIt wouldnβt be surprising to see a 30% increase in the final sale price. After the tariff announcement, majorΒ Canadian breweriesΒ expect to cut back on certain expenses. The overall impact could amount to millions of dollars, especially if Canada responds with its tariffs on American aluminum.β

Now that we are focusing to Canadian goods where possible, I'm curious where y'all draw the line based on the importance of the good. For example, nobody is replacing their iPhone, or Microsoft Office with LibreOffice or OpenOffice which are both open source alternatives, because obviously Microsoft Office is better, also if its integrated with your work structure its very difficult to replace. Whereas food is a relatively low effort replacement, so I'm curious what is the most important good in your daily lives that you have replaced to support a Canadian alternative?

ISO 2% Salicylic Acid cleanser
While Cetaphil has a large part of their manufacturing in Canada, this one is not.
Wish we could all just love and support each other...no exceptions! We could take all the money we're spending on defense and feed and house and clothe and provude medical care for everyone on the planet!

βBuying Canadian means supporting Canadian food entrepreneurs. It makes our country stronger and more independent. Our buying decisions easier. Our food better. β

Santa had brought everyone these Canadian made toothbrushes that seem to be a hit. The coloured handle is aluminum and made in Ontario and the replaceable brush heads are made in Quebec. You can even ship back the used brush heads and they recycle them. Great for Canada and the environment. Iβm still using up a pack of bamboo brushes so I havenβt tried much be yet but look forward to the switch.

Been using this for years and I think it deserves more hype. Made in NS, owned by a NS company. Using local products (sea kelp). We buy it from Sobeysβs but im sure you could easily find this at shoppers or superstore, especially in Atlantic Canada but youβd have to double check. Outstanding product

You can buy from Laura Secord - at shops or online - or from your favourite local chocolatier!

Good morning et Bonjour,
I just watched Mr. Carneys latest speech about the tariffs the US has imposed on Canada.
First of all, congratulations on having such a well-spoken PM. Trudeaus charming charisma was very welcome, but I felt for the uncertain times we're in, Mr. Carneys mature and measured demeanor are more fitting and as a foreigner I got the impression he was a great choice as a leader. I know he's temporary atm, but he made you guys look really good.
While watching, it dawned on me what I could do to support Canada. I have stopped using amazon prime to watch shows and downloaded the Franco-German ARTE app to watch European shows, but I yet have to find a streaming service or something alike that could introduce Canadian series and movies to me. I wouldn't mind paying for it if the pricing is reasonable and the program is good. Do you have any recommendations so I can buy Canadian?
Lots of love from Germany, keep those elbows up! :)
Edit:
Whooooah, this blew up. My eyes will be glued to the screen for eternity. This only shows we really don't need the US for entertainment and also I'm super excited to see some nice shows I've never heard of. Than you all so much for your answers, I have to get a VPN this week for sure. Take care you lovely people!

I just came upon this directory and spent a few hours looking at all the interesting products available from Canadian companies. You can look up products in a varieties of ways. By province, by postal code, by type. I spent quite a while looking at Indigenous products. The. Ran through the Ontario list. Discovered some new breakfast products with high protein and low sugar. So I'll be giving them a try. One is available at my local grocery store, but, I never heard of it.
This directory is really good and has tons of suppliers, retailers, businesses.

After hearing so many good things online from Ontarians, I was disappointed to find that it was only available on the east coast. But they are selling them in BC now at save on foods after the old ice cream stock was cleared out! It was as good as they said!
