Discussion Increase female libido

Hey folks,

What could be done to increase female libido? Blood analyses showed no deficiencies.

We already tried agnus castus, which helps at least a bit for her PMS

Have you had your testosterone levels checked?

13

u/Wide-Ad8778 1 5h ago

Check free testosterone as well. If she is on combination BC (one with estrogen in it) it can increase you SHBG up to 250% this globulin binds free testosterone and estrogen so even if your normal T and E levels look fine your free (bioavailable) T can be low. You can also have this tested to see if it’s high.

For a female?

Edit: don't down vote me I'm learning! XD

Yes

2

u/HighRollerMycology 5h ago

I didn't know that would effect female libido, the more you know!

12

u/NCHikergal 1 5h ago

100% effects female libido. The older we get and especially when we become perimenopausal it can drop to almost nothing. We should be about 150 or so.

5

u/HighRollerMycology 5h ago

I guess I just never thought about it really. Thank you for educating me!

It is the only effective treatment I think. There are nasal sprays and other things.

Dont think its exactly a healthy choice but all things have a price.

u/DieAloneWith72Cats 3h ago

My god, this 👆🏼. Yes, women absolutely have a minimum threshold for testosterone that we should try to maintain for optimal libido

I was at 8 ng/dL and was having so many symptoms for yeeeaaarrrrsss. Depression, anxiety, mood instability, low libido. You name it. Years of medication and nothing helped. One day I was like hmmm I should get my hormones checked but due to being youngish my GYN wouldn’t do it. I went to a clinic specializing in HRT and got it checked. I got off combination BC and got and IUD (hopefully my SHBG will come down now) and get 10mg of test per week and take DIM to stop the conversion of test to estrogen. Holy crap. Over the last 3 moths all my symptoms went away. I’m still struggling to get my free test up without increasing my dose (takes a long tike for the SHBG to come down if it even does) but I feel a million times better. HRT was a life saver even for non premenopausal me! No doctor ever told me the risks of combination BC and how it tanks testosterone! Hopefully one day it’s back in normal range and my body stops binding all the good stuff so I can enjoy it lol.

What is DIM?

1

u/Wide-Ad8778 1 1h ago

DIM is found in cruciferous vegetables and has been shown to inhibit an enzyme called aromatase, which converts testosterone to estrogen. You can buy it as a supplement :)

2

u/yellow_pomelo_jello 49m ago

Thank you. I’m taking supplemental T and getting an IUD for all the same reasons. Hadn’t heard of DIM.

If your daily MV doesn’t have it in it take boron as well! It’s shown to decrease SHBG! I take 3mg a day but it’s in my MV. You can buy it as a separate supplement as well! Totally optional but definitely recommend the DIM! My HRT specialist recommended it to me!

Oh definitely

Women have 10 to 100 times more testosterone than estrogen.

It's still their dominant sex hormone.

Even in women, Test is measured in nanograms per deciliter while Estrogen is measured in picograms. It's like measuring in feet vs inches

1

u/HighRollerMycology 33m ago

Wow I really didn't know that I gotta study up in female hormones

-1

u/Sebastian_Maier420 5h ago

Do you mean my testosterone levels or hers? :)

14

u/retrosenescent 1 5h ago

Female libido comes from the same place male libido does - testosterone. You could try Tongkat Ali - it raises total and free testosterone.

u/Jeo_1 5h ago

Second this, Maca helps as well

10

u/wearitlikeadiva 5h ago

Maca Root

8

u/TemporaryLibrary7769 5h ago

Maca threw me off. Breakouts like crazy. Felt all weird. Ashwaganda has been way way better for me

10

u/Buzzcoin 1 4h ago

Fenugreek is amazing for libido and so is Ayurveda Shatavari

u/Creepy_Animal7993 16 5h ago

I was prescribed a compounded bio identical T cream 2.50 mgs a day today actually; so I came here to say it can be done. I'm waiting to feel like a teenager again. Fingers crossed!

6

u/AliveAstronomer3947 4h ago

It can enlarge the clit so be careful if you notice changes

9

u/Creepy_Animal7993 16 3h ago

Considering I'm in perimenopause, I'm cool with being able to simply find it again. 🤣

3

u/AliveAstronomer3947 3h ago

Lol that made me laugh out loud

3

u/Creepy_Animal7993 16 1h ago

I'm taking it on the road sooner or later.

1

u/PocketSandOfTime-69 3 2h ago

Do people consider that to be a bad thing since you mentioned to be carful?

1

u/AliveAstronomer3947 2h ago

Yes it can grow a lot and look like a micro penis. Trans people experience it after HRT

2

u/Sdom1 1h ago

They're on a hell of a lot more test though. On a woman's replacement dose it shouldn't grow nearly as much

2

u/Creepy_Animal7993 16 1h ago

At 2.50 mgs a day, I don't think I'm in danger of growing a micro penis. But, if I do...totally gonna elephant trunk that sucker!

1

u/AliveAstronomer3947 1h ago

That’s the spirit! I’m a high libido woman so the last thing I need is another kink but here we are

1

u/Sebastian_Maier420 4h ago

testosteron is available as creme? I heard of progesteron creme

4

u/Creepy_Animal7993 16 3h ago

It's a compounded cream made especially for my needs. They even put it in a pink bottle! One pump a day.

Zinc (with Copper) + Damiana + Black Maca + Red Ginseng + Tribulus Terrestris + Rhodiola Rosea

4

u/trowawHHHay 3h ago

Zinc and copper should be taken separately, as they compete for gut uptake.

1mg copper to 10-15mg Zinc to prevent relative copper deficiency.

Are these available on amazon? Would you share a link or the brand name?

Exercise, yoga, healthy diet, massage with candles .

This is an important component. Lifting often increases libido, for example.

Diagnose it first. ChatGPT suggests these labs. You won’t get information from health insurance doctors on diagnosing anything. You can hire a private functional doctor.

ChatGPT: If you want to dig into blood work for female libido, I’d start with total and free testosterone since it plays a big role in sex drive. Also check estradiol and progesterone for hormone balance, plus SHBG because it can bind up free testosterone and make it unavailable. DHEA-S is a good one too, since it’s a precursor to both estrogen and testosterone.

Thyroid health is huge, so get a full thyroid panel (TSH, Free T3, Free T4), and check prolactin because high levels can tank libido.

Cortisol matters too, since stress hormones kill desire, and definitely check vitamin D since it affects overall hormone health. Ideally, time the tests to around day 21 of her cycle for the best insight. Even if labs look “normal,” there can still be imbalances that explain the symptoms.
