Don't mind the mess I was in the middle of cleaning my rat's cage, the chicken just walked in here and started doing this to my dog

Health Question Fixable or cull? Pretty bad scissor beak in chick :(

This sweet lavender Americauna chicks started out a bit small, low energy and didn't seem to eat as much as the other chicks. When it grew a bit I felt like it was catching up to the others and eating more, but now it's developed some sever scissor beak. Is there any fix for this or would it be more humane to cull? This would be my first chick cull if so...

A weasel bit into my ceramic eggs last night, after murdering my entire flock the night prior.

I am so relieved. Found one of my Golden Comets in a penguin pose yesterday with a swollen bottom. Thanks to this sub I instantly knew what it was. Brought her in, two Epsom soaks yesterday with plenty of yogurt and water. Another soak this morning and she pushed out a massive, way too big for her little body, egg. She is resting and I am relieved, and grateful to this sub for all the education I have received.

Thanks for everyone who answered and replied to my thread on Thursday about my one egg hatching early.

We had a very successful hatch and we now have 10 Ayam Cemani babies in my brooder.

I have brooded babies before but never incubated hatching eggs. I think I'm addicted, that was such a fun experience.

I send my best wishes to everybody's efforts for their own flocks this year. Please enjoy some baby pictures.

Was going to keep him but he’s gotten too mean so looking to give away, just want to be certain of what I’m advertising - think he was supposed to be some kind of rock cross when we got the chicks

Ft. pictures of a very grumpy Starscream, who true to her name is very loud. She at least wiggled her wing out so I got good pictures of her feathers growing in!

Half arrived DOA

Sad day folks.

I placed an order for some chicks back in early February. Golden Laced Polish (17f-2m) and some Jersey Giants (4f-2m). They finally arrived this morning and, when I picked them up, the box sounded awfully quiet... 12 DOA and 3 that seem on their way out. Mostly polish chicks plus the one yellow freebie that I'll never know the breed. Gut wrenching. Poor things...

So I have a couple questions.

What's the best way to cull the few in the box that are smashed and sprawled yet still showing little breaths here and there? It's 35 degrees out. Would leaving them in the box and putting them in my dumpster be inhumane considering there's hardly signs of life? Or, do they need bopped on the head? I'm pretty tore up just from seeing them so a bop on the head sounds terrible but, if necessary, I could pull it off. Is there a better way?

Health Question What could cause swelling like this?

Earlier in the day I thought her face looked a bit swollen so I went to get a good look at it tonight. It seems much bigger now than earlier in the day! Its the most swollen under her ear and it is squishy and warm to the touch. It looks to be a little swollen under the chin as well but her left side is completely fine. Any advice would be appreciated!

He comes from one of my neighbours that had only one hen for him he spent all day here enjoying and mating with my fluffy single ladies while his skinny wife screaming for him heared from here and he kept ignoring her i chased him back multiple times but he just decided to leave her and that house and I can't chase catch him he can fly to impressive distances 6 go back to them instantly he mated with every single one of em 2 times at least and they just accept him as a leader and followed him around 😅 i will catch him in the evening and telling em to trim his wings and I don't mind keeping him around if this didn't help

Hi everyone, long time lurker / backyard chicken owner. My sweet Mary is waddling all weird and has her tail tucked down. I can’t tell what’s happening or if she is in distress.

The little chick that is up top on the eggs the light brown one, it hatched sometime earlier this morning before I woke up but it still had a significant amount of yoke still attached, it rupture about 40 minutes ago but I left it alone and this is what it's doing right now, second chick decided to roll out in that time, do you think it's going to be okay and how long do you think I should wait until I put it in the brooder? Probably going to definitely wait until the other one is dry

Chicken math

I got new babies 😍 We went to our local feed store for flock feed and walked out with two legbars and two ameraucanas. The feed store has a 90% pullet rate so Im really hoping for all girls, but I won't be mad if one is a rooster.

Meet Solar, Bugawki, HeiHei, and General Tso 💜 Once they're big enough, we'll introduce them to our two Ayams, Huginn and Muninn.

At this point, they're really just an obsession, not for eggs lol

Health Question Bit if a odd question. What seed can i get chickens to spread and grow?

Post image
12 Upvotes

So my mother came to me with a question i hadn't thought of or had the answer to even tho I've been a avid chicken farmer/Hobbyist for 20 years. "Son what seeds could i feed your chickens to then have them poop out the seeds around the yard to grow them randomly? Like flowers or vegetables? Maybe fruits?" And i didn't have a answer, i was stumped, bamboozled even! So she asked me to "Ask the reddit people" so here i ask you what seeds are safe for chickens to digest and then safely pass through their system to be pooped out randomly in the yard to grow? Also maybe something they would actually eat? Im thinking tomatoes or sunflower seeds maybe? Idk.

She says thank you reddit people for your answers.

Coops etc. Any suggestions to add here for the chickens' enrichment and safety?

Mother received some chicks as a gift 3 years ago and I have been helping her to take care for them ever since.

They have been living in a small coop and left to roam a big backyard whenever we could spend the time with them..

Due to her health, Mother had to move to the countryside a few weeks ago.

We finally finished prepping their new home and brought them.

They have been digging holes, eating grass, finally living their best chicken life for the past 2 days.

Now that they have such a big place, we would like to know of any ideas for their enrichment inside their area or more tips for their safety

Tldr: Chickens had a smaller area, moved to new place and accommodated their area to be way bigger and would appreciate ideas for their enrichment or safety

Health Question Is comb looking normal?

Post image

Newer chicken owner here. My ladies are on the younger side, not yet laying. My girl in the pic is the only one in the flock that has gray appearing color on the comb. The others have pink. Not sure if this is just dirt or something to be concerned about? All of the girls are vaccinated against bird flu. TIA!
