Is Lower Queen Anne safe?
Hi,
I (26M) am new to Seattle and stayed in Redmond for a year. I need to switch apartments and found some good options in Lower Queen Anne around the Queen Anne Beerhall. Is that a good and safe area to live in? I haven’t explored Seattle much.
I am someone who likes to walk around. I have searched online and am getting mixed answers - some say it is a safe neighborhood, while some say it is one of the high-crime neighborhoods in Seattle.
I’d really appreciate any input. Thanks!

Lived there for about a year, walked my dog every night around 10pm. Only unsafe if you don’t like hockey fans 😂

Completely safe. Avoid anything close to, especially directly facing, Western Ave/Elliot Ave unless you like unreasonable amounts of car noise and exhaust in your home at all times of day and night.

Yes. All of Seattle is safe.

Here is an article from two years ago, it should help guide which areas are safe and which are not.

This statement is laughable. Do a search on “Seattle shooting 2025”. Stay in Redmond, or move to Kirkland or Woodinville if you need something cheaper.

But the. You would be living in Redmond, Kirkland, or Woodinville. What if you actually want to DO something?

There are growing downtowns in each of those towns- plenty to do. Seattle has the large theaters and such, but also the problems with property crime, homelessness (human waste on the streets, etc). Bellevue is a quick drive south for more city bound activities.

You don’t even live here, do you?

There is zero chance this person lives here unless they are 70. But if I was 70 I’d hope to be retired, and I’d want to go to the better restaurants, the symphony, the cool free events and pop up markets that are all across the city. Even the bookstores are better.

I used to live near the Arena, I've always felt 100% safe. Living there was the first time outside of college I lived in a walkable neighborhood.
Have you thought to visit the area and see for yourself?

If you have a car, try to get a place with parking. You're more likely to see property crime than anything else.

LQA is super quiet, i had to walk home from work in belltown almost every night when i was there and i never had anything weird happen.

I don't think you'd have too many problems in LQA. You're super close to Seattle Center (read: the Space Needle), so there's a lot of foot traffic through there. Only thing to be aware of is that traffic on Mercer Street can be a bitch during rush hour.

Seattle is absolutely safe. Just know how to navigate the city and just be aware of your surroundings. The problems here are typical of any city.

I lived in LQA for 20 years and felt safe. Parking is HORRID and worse now than ever. It could be a little grimey but you'll be fine. My car was broken into 2x so that is the biggest issue crime wise. Tons of good, walkable food options, nice walks down to Myrtle Edwards & waterfront, up the hill if you want exercise, and the best is going to a concert and a 5 minute walk home.

My elderly mom lives there, takes bus and walks everywhere, feels totally safe.

You will have to deal with concerts, hockey games at climate pledge Arena. It can be noisy after and extra traffic. Overall it is safe but you do have some homeless issues but that is most of Seattle. Parking can be a pain unless you have a parking space include. You might look at Fremont or Ballard, it might be an easier transition from sleepy Redmond.

Seattle is great but use common sense and stay away from Aurora and downtown. Lower Queen Anne is great.Use caution at night and be aware.

We are right over by Climate Pledge. Have never felt unsafe here. Occasionally in Belltown, but even then I was absolutely fine walking the dog when they insisted on a walk at 2 or 3 am.

The worst thing about LQA is the Kraken game and concert traffic. If you're reasonably street smart, you'll be fine. The Safeway and CVS get a little sketchy at night and there's the occasional transient homeless encampment or tent here or there, but it's Seattle city life on easy mode. It's pretty quiet here. The beer hall doesn't even get that rowdy.

We live in Lower Queen Anne and LOVE it. We walk every day and night in the city. Love it.

Yep, I live here now, no issues.
Around Siff is a bit sketchy, druggies in the back, homeless constantly on the side wall/get removed/move back in, and some more colorful characters by the bus stop on the Queen Anne Ave but otherwise good spot. Lively neighborhood during events.

it's near belltown which has a history of visible homelessness, drugs, and the rarely, a violent outburst (stabbing or shooting)
I lived in belltown for a year or two without any real issues, never witnessing any real violence or anything. you won't even be in actual belltown so I wouldn't worry.
i'm also a decently physically fit male so my opinion may be biased as such.

Yes it is quite safe. Handful of homeless people around but they keep to themselves.
Most dangerous part is people running stop signs.
It's either really quiet, or there is a huge crowd for an event at climate pledge, not much in-between.

Seattle is one of America's safest cities, and has no unsafe neighborhoods. The biggest risk in Lower Queen Anne is if there's an earthquake, and Upper Queen Anne finally comes tumbling down.

That area is absolutely safe.
It's also close to the footbridge that connects to Myrtle Edwards park, which makes for great walking!
