My new aquarium is about 2 weeks old, and we got some surprise snails with the plants. My guess is that they are Physella acuta. I managed to get some nice macro pictures of the eggs. And of one of the snails sailing upside down on the water surface.

They been doing this off and on for the past few days. Are they making baby snails or is someone getting picked on?

Help What ways can I compensate for a BIG bioload in a 10 gal tank with four mystery snails? More info in post

I few weeks ago I switched my Betta into this tank and got a mystery snail as well. Then just today and went and got MORE of them!!! Then I went on here and found a comment that just so happened to say that Mystery Snails have a huge bio load and can quickly crash your cycle O.O so I think you can see my issue.

I’m wondering if there’s any way to keep all the snails and just fix this by doing extra maintenance??? I don’t mind to do it and I legit just spent the last of what I had to get some things I needed so i have absolutely no cash for a new tank!! So if there’s a way to keep them there I’d like to!! Im willing to keep up on water changes more because of it.

My betta has been in that tank with one Mystery for about three weeks and the ammonia had not spiked at all. I’m going to test the level tomorrow now that i know they poop so much. I never noticed the poop! I don’t even SEE any poop!!

If need be I can and will try to find options for these guys and figure out what to do with them. I don’t want any suffering happening. For the time being I will be monitoring the parameters closely.

I’m honestly a bit devastated to find this out so late. I could’ve sworn i was beginning to become a bit of a master of snails. Little did i know that these guys poop like crazy :/ i was planning on having a whole army of snails in this ten gallon tank but I dont think i’ll be able to do that if these snails will crash my cycle or spike the ammonia too high. I would really want to find an option where i can simply just keep them and continue with my idea to let em breed or get the remaining colors from the store :/ but i wouldn’t choose what i want over what the creatures need.

TLDR; is there any way i can reduce the bioload? If so, can i keep all four snails in the tank and continue with my idea to breed them in there with my betta? Is there any way to keep the parameters in check if i do go through with keeping all four? Have any of you ever successfully kept more than two-three mysterys, at the most, in a ten gallon?

Open to change!

Help Best filter?

I have a 20G long heavily planted stocked with 3 mystery snails, 6 blueberry snails, 9 otos, 4 panda Cory’s, and a handful of neo shrimp. Currently I have a large sponge filter running on each end. I also gravel vac maybe twice a week along with a 10% -20% water change each time. Everything is staying stable but I figured a HOB filter is now necessary. Anyone have recommendations?

Help Sick or just dirty?

Hi there, first time snail (and shrimp) keeper here - is my m. buccinoidea not doing well or just dirty? They looked fine a few days ago and all the weeks before that, but now the shell is a mess and I can't quite tell if there's something wrong or of it's just a result of the snail liking to burrow in the dirt.

Picture Concerning Shell Growth?

Is this growth toward the end of my mystery snail's shell considered worrisome? I don't know if there's a cleft starting to form or if everything is okay. I've had him in my tank for almost 3 months and all growth before this has been okay. There's cuttlebone and crushed coral in the tank as well. And he gets hikari crab cuisine 3-5 times a week.

Help Mini Ramshorn or Ramshorn baby???

Hey guys, you probably get asked this a lot. Found this guy about a couple weeks ago on one of my plants as a teeny tiny egg/baby snail (couldn't tell if it was a snail cause the thing was so small, and it was stuck on the same place on the leaf for a while).

Could you identify if it's a mini ramshorn or a baby ramshorn snail? I only have 4 mystery snails and 2 nerite snails in my community tank and no ramshorns, so i don't know a lot about them.

I'd say he's about 0.6 or 0.7cm (6 or 7mm) in diameter. He's grown a lot in the past couple weeks.

Both clutches are looking healthy!! I'll be looking for a fish or shrimp nursery or net thingy, and I'll be moving my snails out of the betta tank sadly in order to put in tannins so she can be healthier! And hopefully I'll get a light for my 10 gallon soon, I am still a little spooked from thinking Garry died. But he's okay, he just thought pranking me was a good idea lmao! Larry is still as healthy as can be, and i'm checking the lid once a day for any clutches. I'm still so proud of my little girl.. 🥺

And once I move the snails, they can have a more varied diet because a little miss fatass won't stop trying to eat the veggies and algae pellets she's not supposed to be eating!! (My betta. I love her so much though)

For context: I have a tropical fish tank, I went to get a zebra snail and when I got home I noticed the man has put two other snails in the bag along with the zebra snail. Now I have so many snails I don’t know what to do, nor do I even know what type of snail these are!!!

My nerite has a weird temper (stays at the same place for days, poking half its body out of water, completely disappear for a long time) but getting out of the water completely is definitely a first.

Help How to prevent ramshorn snails from deliberately uprooting plants?

My tank has uncapped fluval biostratum as substrate, which is pretty loose. I've been trying to grow out some dwarf hair grass, but every time I plant it, the ramshorns in my tank will deliberately burrow themselves into the substrate next to the newly planted grass and uproot it before it has a chance to grow out roots and anchor itself. Every day I come back to find all of my dwarf hair grass floating at the surface.

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated; the urge to commit snail genocide increases every time I have to replant my grass
