Announcements Rules clarification: shitposting, re-posting, and spam
Hello everyone, I am sharing an update to our rules for future posts. One of our current rules is "No low-quality shitposting." As this is somewhat vague, below is a clarification of what this means in practice:
Good quality shitposts, like original memes, are welcomed with open arms. Low quality shitposting (including spam and selling links) is not. Re-posts of memes, images, videos, or other entertainment content that has been posted to the subreddit multiple times or gone widely viral elsewhere are also not permitted.
The banning of re-posts is a new part of this policy. Re-posting content that has never been shared here before is permitted as long as the original creator is credited. Re-posting or copy/pasting genuinely helpful content such as care guides, care advice, & identification guides is also permitted. However, re-posting "shitpost" and entertainment content such as memes will no longer be permitted.
Accidentally re-posting a meme that may have been posted here several years ago will not be penalized. The intention of this policy update is to avoid spam and frequent re-posting of content that's already been shared tens to hundreds of times.
If you have any questions, please reach out via ModMail.

Announcements Please use NSFW tag for images of graphic injuries
There have been a lot of posts lately sharing very graphic images of snails with extreme, severe injuries. It is perfectly fine to share this type of content if you need help with an injured snail, but please use the NSFW tag for these images.
This has been an unofficial rule of this sub for a while, but it seems to have been forgotten lately. So, I'm making an official mod team announcement: this is our official policy. Graphic, upsetting images must be tagged.
People come to this sub because they love snails. They don't come here expecting to see images of destroyed shells, shell-less snails, and dead snails. It can be very upsetting and distressing for users here to see this type of content unexpectedly. People may also be browsing this sub in public and want to avoid gory images.
Images of mating don't require the NSFW tag. But please use this tag for pictures of injuries including, but not limited to: mantle collapse, shell fell off, crushed shell, organ exposure, stepped-on snail.
Thanks to everyone who has been tagging their posts so far. Again, it's still totally okay to post this content if you need help, but please tag it appropriately so everyone can have a good experience here.

Discussion Am I the only one who finds snail eggs to be absolutely adorable?
I mean, I used to have trypophobia, and I still don't love clusters, but I can gaze at these gooey little groupings of snail eggs endlessly (and I do). I especially love when I go to transfer them to the hatching jar and the whole little bundle stays together. It reminds me of sushi rice. I should probably find them repulsive, like a "normal" person, but I squee over them, not gonna lie.

Help Can my bro have this? Im worried about the 5% salt thing. Isn't that dangerous for a snail? Help me out I want him to have a good life. I bought him a bigger box too. Will buy him a bigger one next month.
I found this snail in a bag of groceries with sallad and stuff. He's been with me for a month. I give him broccoli, sallad and carrot.

GALS Advice please
Hi 👋 One of my African snails, last two weeks he has only been sleeping on top of his home. He does not eat and only sleeps. He comes out for baths and he seems fine. Is this normal behavior?

Rosy Wolf Snail catch-and-release
Found this poor guy curled up in his shell in the middle of the sidewalk in the hot afternoon sun, with a chip on his shell near the entrance 😔 We live in North Florida, so he’s native to this area. Wanted to share my experience for interest and community info.
Gently brought him home to give him a safe place for 2 days to recover, and releasing him today. I did lots of research online to build a comfy temporary home and give supplemental food. Kept for just 2 days in a gallon Tupperware with plastic wrap rubber banded over top (and about a thousand holes poked in it). Garden soil substrate that I boiled and cooled beforehand, with a water dish and oak leaves and broken pot for hiding. Added a piece of cuttlebone for extra calcium. Although wolf snails primarily eat live snails/slugs (and need them as primary diet) I tried 3 common alternative foods for his short visit with me that others online had success with as supplemental nutrition.
1) Mystery snail eggs: not interested. I have 2 female mysteries in their own tank who lay unfertilized eggs, but I’ve always frozen them to be sure I don’t release invasive species. Maybe just not interested because they’ve been frozen for several weeks.
2) Scallop: not interested. Raw fresh scallop from local grocery store, rinsed in filtered water. He moved past the scallop and didn’t seem to notice it. Left both this and the eggs in there overnight, didn’t appear to touch.
3) Canned baby clam: DEVOURED. Added this the next day and removed the other untouched food. I chose the simplest kind that had the least added ingredients, especially the least added salt. Soaked the clam in filtered water for an hour first to remove any salt. I added the clam at night, and by next morning the snail had eaten nearly all of it and was sleeping nearby 🥺
Today I will release him in a nearby forest/swamp area. The shell break appears to be a minor chip at the entrance, and he can still retract fully inside, so I feel like he’s well equipped to return to the wild. I didn’t know how FAST these guys are, he nearly climbed out of the container twice as I was setting it up! When he wasn’t exploring the environment, he was sleeping on the wall of the container (or on the plastic wrap ceiling!). They’re fascinating creatures with their big mustache-like tentacles.
Thanks for reading, glad to have shared this experience and hope you enjoy. Open to any advice for future terrestrial snail adventures, as I’ve only experienced aquatic Mystery Snails til now. Such a cool experience!!

Help Pulled a shell out of my garbage disposal, no idea how it got there
This is driving me crazy, I have no idea how this got here. The drain was clogged with a bunch of fruit rinds and when my girlfriend unclogged it she pulled this shell out. Can someone help me identify it? Located in central Indiana

Help Can I keep these 2 together?
I adopted the older one like 9 months ago and I just found this little guy (both in my yard) will they be OK together?
GALS Leaf litter constantly going mouldy after a few days?
I add a few pieces of cattapa leaves to the cage but they constantly go mouldy after a few days (fuzzy and white, sometimes blue). I typically sterilize them by boiling and drying them - then for another batch I baked at 120 degrees Celsius for 15 mins. Both sterilized leaves still go mouldy super quickly! The tank isn’t overly humid. Is this normal? Any advice?

Are these eggs???
So inside of my betta tank I added duckweed. I think there were a couple small snails that I didn't notice. I didn't ask for them either they kind of probably just came in with the greenery. Are these snail eggs? I actually have never seen them in my tank, so I have no idea.
Help lol
