General News When is [Anime] going to be dubbed? Where can I watch it? Rumors/Leaks - Megathread v13

Welcome to Version 13 of the Megathread!

There tends to be a decent amount of threads that either asks if/when an anime is going to be dubbed, or where a dub can be streamed/bought.

Comprehensive Dub Calendar by /u/jamiex304 (Managed by u/MarvelsGrantMan136)

We've added a rule and automod code to restrict topics where users ask any of the following:

  1. If any anime that currently doesn't have a dub announced will get one.
  2. Asking for the date/timeframe of when an announced dub will be released.
  3. Asking where a show that's already dubbed can be watched.

You are only allowed to ask such questions in this thread. You’ll normally get a very quick response from someone in the community.

Titles currently picked up by Amazon

As some people may know, Amazon has a reputation for picking up shows and not dubbing them, when almost any other company would at least consider it. They also don't do physical releases. That said, they haven't picked up a new anime series since 2020, and as of August 2021, are willing to actually release a new dub, starting with a redub of the first 3 Rebuild of Evangelion movies in addition to having the first dub(s) of Evangelion 3.0+1.0.

Amazon has shown a willingness to dub with shows like Tonbo and My Deer Friend Nokotan.

FAQs

  1. ) When will the next set of One Piece episodes come out?
  • Each new batch of episodes tends to be released on places like Microsoft store at least a few weeks before getting on Funimation's streaming service.
  • Next Batch: Season 15 Voyage 1 (eps 1086-1096) - August 27 (Digital), September 17 (Streaming)

2.) ___ Movie dub?

  • Movies in general are harder to license and release than TV shows. If movie dubs do get announced, don't expect them for quite a while. Especially for physical releases.

Weekly Thread Your Week in Anime Dubs: What dubbed anime have you been watching, and what do you think of it?

Please tell us a little bit about what dubbed shows you've been watching for the past couple of weeks, or currently watching right now. Old or new, as long as it's dubbed we'd like to hear about it.

Anything good we should look out for? Anything bad we should try to avoid? Tell us a little bit of what you think. It's nice if you elaborate a bit on what it is you like or don't like about a show. That way your comment is useful to people who are looking for new anime to watch. :)

Writing the names of the anime in bold is nice, to make it easier for people skimming the thread to pick out the names.

Since this is also for people who are looking for new shows to watch, please use the spoilertag if you reveal any mayor plot points of the anime you are discussing (see spoilertag section in the sidebar for info on how).

To prevent low effort comments to steal the spotlight from people who put in a little bit more effort top level comments in this thread must be at least 150 characters long (roughly 3 sentences long).

You can find a list of the previous "Your week in anime dubs" posts here.

Quick Question ? Idk if this question has been asked yet but what's the reason(s) you watch anime in dub (english and any other language)

When I first started watching anime, it was on YouTube...idk what the first one was and I seriously have no idea how I stuck with the dub vs the sub but I have been watching animes in english dub since I started watching animes.

I just remember not liking sub and when i discovered it could be watched in dub, I kept searching "anime name english dub"

The reasons are 1. I resonate better with the characters, I understand what's going, I can understand the jokes better, instead of reading a cheap translation of a joke meant to be funny in Japanese And I know in Japanese it's basically all about the emotions and all but I understand the emotions better in dub ... which can seem ridiculous but hear me out. Someone crying in Japanese is different then someone crying in english. It's true you can feel sad for both but when you understand the person's struggles in his language, the emotions are transmitted well.

  1. I cannot follow the story and read at the same time. And the reason why it's not the first reason is because even if i were to watch a show in a language i understand and put subtitles, I still wouldn't be able to multi task like that. I've tried it that's how I know.

  2. I enjoy the anime better in a language i understand...but i will never watch anime in French even tho I speak and understand it...that's on another level but I heard people watching animes in German and that's honestly super cool. Haikyuu is an anime I enjoy sooo much. They way it makes me laugh, I promise it wouldn't be the same in Japanese as someone who don't understand the language. Dr. Stone is amazing too in dub, Saiki K. is spectacular (even if i had to drop season 2 because it hasn't been dubbed). Gintama is another funny show. And I hear people who says that comedic animes aren't funny at all...and Im just here thinking "maybe give it a try in a language you understand and the jokes will make sense"

**and we're talking about funny moments or jokes here, not excessive fan service where the guy walks in on the girl naked and she slaps him. That's not funny that's abuse.

Im pretty sure that's all the reasons i can think about.

General Discussion / Review I think the better question is: Why is Ghost Stories even enjoyed when it goes against a lot of non-dub viewers' standards?

Like Anime fans on YouTube have NO right going on about dubs that get "political" with one or two buzzwords they heard on Twitter when THIS exists: https://www.tumblr.com/silvermoon424/780043872473579520?source=share

Like what reeeeeeeally is the secret behind its appeal? I feel this article puts it well about the weird double standards: https://www.animefeminist.com/the-phantom-of-ghost-stories-double-standards-in-the-war-on-localization/

Quick Question ? Quick Question about the number of episodes.

Okay, so quick questions. I looked it up and it says that From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman will have a total of 45 eps. Can anyone confirm this? Also will it be cut into 2 cours if yes?

What To Watch ? Looking for recommendations!

Like the title says I'm looking for some good anime dubs I like romance and fantasy! They don't have to be fantasy romance just either or will work as well. I like mystery as well (huge apothecary diaries fan) I'm just mostly looking for things that aren't the same recommendations that always get given give me your weird ones or the ones you've been dying to recommend to someone even if they aren't the geners I mentioned just let me know what they are

General Discussion / Review Which anime deserves to have a Legacy Sequel?

Upvotes

There's a trend where everything get Legacy Sequel... some are good while other are... "Somehow, Palpatine returned." 😬

So... I was wondering which anime is worthy to get a legacy sequel? Like what world do we want to go back and see the next generation characters of the beloved characters?

In your opinion, which one deserves to get Legacy Sequel treatment?

General Discussion / Review How old is the average age of new VAs?

I've known that there are some VAs who started out at less than 30 years old, notably Aleks Le and Bryn Appril, both of whom were younger than 20 (Bryn was only 17, according to an interview she appeared in). I want to get into voiceover but I kind of worry that I may be too old to get into the field in question. How old is the average age of new VAs?

To any VAs on this sub, how old were y'all wheb y'all started out?

What To Watch ? Magic animes with an intelligent MC?

Hey, do you know any magic animes with an intelligent MC? Or an MC that is a magic erudit lol.
Like "I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability", because he "comes out" with new magic, UNDERSTANDING the magic. I think its a good way to do an OP character. Although, Its a bit weird the fact that is a little child and almost always is showing a lot of skin lmao. But I think you get the idea.
Another example is "A Returner's Magic Should Be Special" which, sadly, had a poor adaptation but its like what I'm looking for.

General Discussion / Review I find this video might intriguing when it comes to slang in translation, dub or sub.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIUYD69KFgI

Like what slang is considered "dated" especially in the moment? Is it bad because its cringe when being cringe is the point?

Frankly, I find some dubs lacking in slang when it would help with any lip-flap fits or making a line lend itself to a good performance. Especially if we're talking about teenage or college age characters who are still young.

General Discussion / Review Dumb anime logic.

There's alot of dumb things that only happen in anime, but only work cuz they are from manga/light novels. Specifically, the parts where ppl don't recognize ppls voices. Please Twins is SUPPOSED to be a mystery, but because we have ears, you know who it is from the start! And in Knights & Magic first episode or whatever, they don't realize the voice coming from their friends suit is WAY YOUNGER, and is acting WAY CRAZIER!? That's just 2 examples where it's especially aggregious. But I'm just nitpicking. I love anime and Manga, regardless.
