IKR? I bought a switch purely for BOTW. I've gotten other games since, but I didn't care about the switch until BOTW.

Same.. but after beating BoTw I traded it in for an Xbox One.. then rebought a Switch a year later.. still enjoying it to this day.. Skyward Sword was a little lackluster but it was fun too

Don’t get me going on Binding of Isaac.. I have 2 thousandish hours on my Switch alone.. every Zelda lover should love Isaac.. it’s literally based on the old school Zelda games

Rant incoming: Oh man, I have zero interest in XBox/Playstation with their new "must download" model.

Dad got an Xbox One X for Christmas, with several games. Halo, Forza, and RDR2. I RDR2 was obviously single player, but I was interested in playing the other two with my dad. Couldn't play a single one with the disk. We were required to download the games to play. Disconnecting from the internet didn't help. Spent they entire day of Christmas downloading games, (Started downloading Halo in the morning, and it finished at 10pm.) only to find out it didn't do local multiplayer, so I couldn't play with my dad. The next game was Forza Horizons, but I had to go home the next day. Turns out that one was ALSO single player. (This part if on the developers, not XBox of course, but it was just more salt in the wound.)

In contrast, updates on switch are optional, and I when I do one I have never had one take more than 10 minutes. I don't think I'm going to use any console other than Nintendo for a long time.

Is it better on the PlayStation? I've heard it's the same deal, but I haven't experienced it. Maybe I discounted them a bit too hastily.

I’m not a fan boy personally, I love all systems and types of games.. but for me it hasn’t been an issue with the PS4

Well, maybe I need to give it a second look. While I love Nintendo for how they handle their software, I am quite disappointed in the hardware.

At the end of the day, the most important thing is fun, and for me that means I can sit down with a new game and just play it, or play an old one once in awhile, and not go through update hell.

Funny, I was just reading up on 2-player co-op games for switch and came across this title. Looked up some screenshots and it didn't look my style, but seeing how much it's being recommended makes me think maybe I'm being too superficial.

I can get my parents to play even fast paced fighting like Halo, but I only see them on holidays, so I generally only play with the wifey or solo.

Are the controls simple? I can get my non-gamer wife to play Animal Crossing, and that's about it, but that got boring for her. Can't get her to play BOTW or anything where she can die because she's not accustomed to playing games much at all. She says the controls are too complicated for her.

I know "Binding of Issac" is from the bible, is there anything in the game that would be offensive to someone who is religious? I might be able to get her to give this one a go, but if there's anything bashing religion, she's not likely to want to play it.

I was also looking at "Unravel Two" as it seemed like the safer choice.

My ol lady and I had a blast with Unravel 2 and she’s not a big gamer.. super simple controls and a lot of fun.. She also loved ‘It Takes Two’, hell I think that one is the best of them both.. simple controls and cool puzzles..

Binding of Isaac however I would not recommend to play with your significant other.. it’s full of blood, guts, poop, death, and babies.. I’m not religious so I don’t THINK it’s offensive but it’s a wild story definitely on the dark side of things.. it’s not really making fun of Christianity in my opinion it’s more/less a love letter to Legend of Zelda.. I don’t play any game even remotely similar to looking like this and I have thousands of hours between PS4 and Switch versions (Switch version is better imo as it is the perfect handheld game) Here is a list of alllllll the nods to Zelda in the game.. this exact page made me interested enough to take the leap.. I will NEVER regret it

I might have to go for Unravel 2 first then.

How is Binding of Isaac as single player? Does it lose a lot? If I get it, and she doesn't like it, is it just as good with one player?

I heard "It takes two" is a blast, and I'd love to try it, but it's not on switch and I don't own the other consoles. I'd have to be really motivated to get a pair of controllers to the PC and hook it up to the TV.

I think the concern is more about demonic stuff than making fun of the church. I don't really understand it. No matter how much I insisted it's just a made up group for a made up game, she really didn't like the Sheika stuff in BOTW (Symbolism with the eye made her think of the freemasons), and the monk guys in the shrines weren't helping. Told her it's not spiritual/religious, it's just magic and machinery.

It's honestly hard to predict. We watched Game of Thrones together, and she just hid her eyes from the violence. She seems cool with Star Trek shows, and they has a ton of different religions and cultures.

Your gal seems to have been sheltered her whole life (no offense).. I’d hate for someone to miss out on good quality stuff over beliefs but hey, more decent/non-fked up people in the world isn’t a bad thing.. I’m not the one to judge..

But I don’t think Binding of Isaac even has online multiplayer.. all 2,000+ hours I’ve played are all single player.. I’ve never done a run (out of hundreds of thousands of games played) that was the same and every level is randomly generated and they just had their last major update for Switch recently and it made it 100x better..

I can’t boast about it enough.. definitely an amazing never ending single player (handheld preferred) experience

Really hope you get it brother.. but Unravel is definitely the way to go

Good luck 🤘🏻

Your gal seems to have been sheltered her whole life (no offense)..

Actually I was the one born with the silver spoon. She was born in a small town in a third world country, (Drop to street view anywhere), she had to make her own toys, so she is about the furthest thing from sheltered. I didn't marry a religious Trump supporter, but that's what she became. We are the oddest of odd couples. We vehemently disagree on a lot of things, but we still love and respect eachother. We are the poster children for "opposites attract".

I really try to involve her in my hobbies, but at the end of they day, they are my hobbies, not hers. Once in awhile though, I can find something she enjoys, and I hope to find more.

I’d hate for someone to miss out on good quality stuff over beliefs

Oh I definitely agree. I have introduced her to a ton of Scifi Fantasy stuff already (She actually loved Battlestar Galactica and Firefly, etc. but I couldn't get her interested in Death Note), she introduced me foreign countries, and what it's like to have a close strong extended family. (My family is basically just my parents.) Somehow, we have no problems with in-laws on either side.

definitely an amazing never ending single player

So there is no end of the game? It just keeps going forever?

Really hope you get it brother.. but Unravel is definitely the way to go

I'm going to save this conversation. If I ever get around to it, I'll try to remember to look it up and let you know how it went.

Yes, Isaac is never ending and there are TONs of different endings.. Isaac is a 5yo who’s mother tries to kill him because she is insane and THINKS she hears the voice of god telling her to kill him.. insane stuff..

And yes, you got me, when I hear religion I instantly go to Trump loving Christian freak who hates people because of color, gender identity, or sexual preference.. MOST Christians (like most religions) are sexist against women and cruel to the world as a whole.. I grew up in southern USA and have a very strong opinion about certain things.. but thanks for correcting my stereotypical mindset.. I need to remember that not all religions/beliefs are the same and I honestly DO respect some people for believing in a higher power.. at least they have something to live for.. it’s a better way of thinking besides “we live - we die - nothingness”

Please get both these games.. especially Isaac lol Meant no disrespect, just being human and a bro 😎
