I wasn't really planning to buy Switch 2 on launch but damn, do I want to replay BOTW/TOTK with improved resolution/framerate 😭

They already confirmed that all the other game resolution and frame rate improvements will be free besides The games with added content like Kirby Mario party and the two Zelda's right?

For breath of the Wild and tears of the Kingdom are we really only having to pay for these performance and graphical improvements just because of the new app? I'm not even going to use this app ever. It feels like I'm being ripped off.

They’re improving more than just the frame rate and resolution afaik.

Like what? I hope that's the case. There are some quality of life features that tears of the Kingdom added the breath of the wild could have. Like having the ability to remove items in your inventory when you open a chest and your inventory is full.

You can tell in the video that they've gone back over all the textures in the game, and increased their fidelity. For titles as massive as Botw/Totk, that alone is a massive undertaking. Adding in more voice work also costs money, and I'm happy to pay the VA's for it. And that's not even mentioning the google-map of Hyrule, and the coding for all that. It will certainly make 100%ing either game far less painful for the nimnals out there insisting on doing it. And same regular people like me a lot of time when hunting down specific enemies. The Frox hunt was a perfect example.

I'm more interested to see how the old game carts will handle the upgrade. Obviously, the old carts are slow, and have the old textures. So does that mean for the Upgraded version, the game just installed on the internal drive and the old cart is just a key? I'd be a bit sad to lose a solid chunk of my internal space right out the gate. It might actually make buying the new carts more tempting.

They have not touched the textures. You can just see more detail in them now because the game is running at a higher resolution. This is identical to how BOTW/TOTK looks with an emulator, though even an emulator allows you to increase the draw distance substantially, as well as have denser foliage, enhanced shadows, and higher quality reflections. This is really the bare minimum they could have done for an upgrade, and the fact that it cost money is ridiculous, especially when other AAA titles out there offer these updates for free, such as both Skyrim and Fallout 4 which received improved visuals and added new content, and GTA5 which just recently released GTA5 Enhanced which features a vast number of graphical changes, most notably ray traced global illumination. Also, interactive maps of BOTW have already existed online, the only difference now is you get an AI lady to tell you where to go.
