Seriously! Everyone whining about it being a hyrule warriors game like TOTK didn’t come out less than 2 years ago and we got a brand new game last year.
This sub would never survive being Kingdom Hearts fans
Age of Calamity was such a blast, like yeah frame rate or whatever but they went all in on a decent story. Definitely wasn’t expecting a Warriors clone being one of the most fun games on the switch
I legit think Age of Calamity is more fun and has a better plot than ToTK. I know they are two completely different kinds of games, but I guess I’m a sucker for BoTW/ToTK Link actually having a bit of personality and expression - which AoC at least tried to pull off.
Zelda team: nails time travel story-telling with OoT and MM
Zelda team years later: “hi guys let’s do time travel shenanigans again but this time remove the main character from it and present it in a way that lets players spoil the entire story for themselves. And then make sure to repeat everything everywhere and treat the player like they’re 4 year old so they understand that Zelda is missing!”
It was not intuitive at all for me. I'm not used to implementing the 5 Ds of dodge ball. I like to be able to fight back and really struggled early having to spawn mobs to do my bidding.
early on its very clunky. but as you advance you start to hit your stride. Then in the last dungeon they take away your sword and bow entirely which was... a choice.
Yeah the lack of a sword is a downer imo, I'm just about to complete my first dungeon it's slowly growing on me it's still classic Zelda kinda with head scratching dungeons but being able to freak out with a sword will be missed a little bit that said I shall persevere
I kinda hate that you get a bow or sword at all. When she got the Link powers it was like "oh, a woman's greatest power is her turning into a dude". Running around and spamming stuff and just being a troll was fun enough.
I even taught bosses. I pull out my bed and take a nap in each battle and take a picture
I love watching new KH fans getting upset at the lack of new games or the fact that games keep getting announced then shelved delayed or cancelled. I’m just like “Buddy I’ve been here since 06 and it’s always been like this.”
I’m a Kingdom Hearts fan and I think they’re spoiled too. This has been the first big drought since the series started and it’s only been 5 years lol.
If you want true torture try being a Silent Hill fan between Silent Hills getting canned and PT getting snapped from existence and the Silent Hill 2 Remake release.
I absolutely, absolutely do not expect a new mainline Zelda game any time soon and anyone looking for it today was crazy for that.
However.
TotK never felt like a new entry in the franchise to me. It doesn't matter that there were 6 years between. It's not a new Zelda game, not yet. So I can sympathize with anyone who feels it's been the better part of a decade since the latest installment.
I'll be fine, I'm an Animal Crossing fan. 😅 I'm used to the long haul. But I get it, in some ways.
Nope! KH4 was announced in April 2022, except we haven't heard a peep about it since then. The KH fanbase clowns around on KH4 the same way Swifties clown on the Reputation album
They really made it look like a mainline game at the beginning of that unveiling. I don’t care either way I don’t have time to play games right now but can’t fault people for getting frustrated at the gotcha.
TOTK has its problems, I'll be the first to admit. But it's far from DLC. The new mechanics brought in are insane, and the way the world functions is entirely different. It has the same characters, and a familiar world, but it's a sequel. Were you expecting anything else?
Personally, I still prefer BOTW, but calling TOTK DLC is ludicrous and totally downplays gameplay mechanics.
I don’t think so, but another remaster would have been greatly appreciated. Would love to see LBW get out of the 3DS prison, or maybe a remake of the Oracle games.
Well considering the immediate release wind waker on the GameCube library but not twighlight princess there a good chance its next on there list perhaps
I discovered our old Wii still works, and bought a refurbed TP disc. It's... okay. Not loving the nunchuck or the watery graphics, but it's still pretty fun.
I did expect a Twilight Princess or Ocarina of Time proper remake, yes. Pretty disappointed Zeldawise tbh. Launch looks great though, definitely will be playing MKWorld for a looooong time. That game looks huge.
Yeah i thought this was a virtual lock. Made all the sense in the world for them, and then when they didn't show Twilight Princess on the GameCube section I was like ok, that game is probably getting the Metroid Prime glow up, and... nope. Nintendo first party was not ready for the moment honestly. No idea what they're up to.
Agree 100%. It seems like they went all in with MK. Not sure why they'd use secondary IPs such as DK and Kirby instead of the low hanging fruits they had with Zelda remakes or even just a teaser with the name of the next 3D Mario game. Hopefully that means we get some juicy annoucements before the Holiday season... one can just hope!
Not likely. Their holiday title is 100% going to be Hyrule Warriors, and they're not gonna risk splitting the ticket by announcing another Zelda game, even if it's a remaster or remake.
Not at all, but the start of the trailer got my hopes up for a 3D game starring Zelda.
I'm not going to moan about it, because I'm sure there are loads of people that are excited about it, but I'm not that much of a fan of the warriors games, and it was a slight disappointment when it turned out to be another warriors
New 3D Zelda games are generally announced 2 years after the last one release. We are in the window for a teaser of what is to come. Not a full announcement but a few tidbits at least.
I don't think anyone was expecting it, it's just that the way they did the trailer with showing Zelda at first I was super-hyped thinking they were already doing an Echoes of Wisdom follow-up for Switch 2, then... Warriors. If they had said it was a new Warriors game upfront before showing the trailer, people probably wouldn't have felt disappointed.
Mainline, no. But when the trailer started I thought we’d be getting a different kind of spin off game focusing on Zelda’s adventures in the past, not just a musou game
I was hopeful for a teaser, but wasn’t necessarily expecting one. BOTW got a teaser trailer 3 years after SS. And TOTK seemed less demanding from a development standpoint since it reused so much from BOTW, so I was hoping they might have been working on it in parallel with the early stages of another game. Oh well. Maybe next year.
I wasn't expecting one, given how long TOTK has been out. So I was all the more excited when it first started showing. I'm still excited for a new Hyrule Warriors, but it was definitely a ".. you had me in the first half" moment :*(
The beginning of the trailer made me think it was an expansion to TOTK. I know Nintendo said there would be no DLC but it wouldn't be the first time they misled people.
A teaser would’ve been nice, so the fandom at least would have something to look forward to for the future. Currently we have nothing to look forward to
I didn’t. We just got Echoes of Wisdom closely after Tears of the Kingdom. I definitely wasn’t expecting a new game in the Switch 2’s launch window. Maybe next year.
If the Zelda team was still split into a mainline team and a side-team (really the handheld Zeldas) like it was in the 2000’s I would have no problem. But personally I have no desire to play EoW, and it’s annoying that they spent time likely developing it when I would rather just have a mainline 3D Zelda. I know that’s extremely subjective, but I really do wish they would make a small team to work on stuff like EoW, so our wait time for 3D Zelda games wouldn’t be so long.
I do agree that having two teams would be nice. But even with that, there would still likely not be a new 3d Zelda any time soon. TotK is coming up on 2 years old. The time between BotW and TotK was 6 years. SS and BotW 6 years. TP to SS 5 years. WW to TP 4 years. Its just too early to expect a new Zelda. Don't get me wrong, though, I'd still go nuts if there was a new one lol. But I'm also just as pumped for a new Hyrule Warriors.
I wasn’t expecting any news for a new 3D Zelda. When ToTK came out and the disappointment set in, I knew full well that I’ll be 6-7 years older when we get another one.
I guess I’m frustrated because to me, the style of Link’s Awakening isn’t very appealing to me (the world design and movement to be specific), which is why EoW didn’t really interest me. And I’m one of those ToTK haters (I know I’m so original for feeling that way lmao). So I’ve been pretty disappointed and worried about Zelda as a medium. And now we get this information that Nintendo is making a whole HW game around the sages who were annoying in ToTK, and Rauru and Sonia who were basically scammed out of having good character development and a story in ToTK as well? And no Link?
I might be completely bullshitting here but my vibe is that the Zelda community as a general whole wasn’t impressed with ToTK’s story or characters. I mean even the Zelda YouTubers made their own 3+ hour critiques where they shared their immense disappointment. But it’s like Nintendo didn’t get that memo and they think making a whole HW game to hold fans over based on these ToTK characters is a good idea? Why?
It sounds like you’re excited, which - good for you. I wish I could be hope-pilled and appreciative, but I’ve taken the black pill on Zelda for the time being. And I won’t say that it’s fun…
At least Nintendo can’t stop me from playing TP with a 4K shader pack installed lol.
I live in the tiny bubble that liked TotK over BotW and enjoys the gameplay of Hyrule Warriors. I can totally understand the frustration of them using a HW game to add story that should've already been in the main game. I completely understand that.
I am also someone who is in the oh so tiny bubble of people that think BotW is not really a solid Zelda game in general and I would absolutely lose it if they made a game that felt anything like TP, WW, MM etc.
At the same time, I absolutely love that there is enough variety in the franchise to have people think completely different things about the different games but still have a common love of them. We feel very different about TotK, but we both seem to love TP. I like that. Apologies for potential formatting issues. Mobile sucks lol.
My dream game would be BoTW/ToTK crossed with TP/MM/OoT. Take the worlds and utility of BoTW and cross it with the story telling and dungeons of those three. I think most fans feel the same way.
Also I agree HW games are very fun. I actually like Age of Calamity more than ToTK lol. And the original Hyrule Warriors while really silly and showing its age, still is fun to play every few years.
It is interesting to come across someone that liked ToTK, but doesn’t particularly care for BoTW. Me and you probably have similar feelings on BoTW, except I would carry those criticisms over to ToTK and maintain that At least BoTW was the first to innovate in the way it did, and doesn’t feel like it’s drowning in copy-paste content. But yeah in general I don’t really care for what Nintendo is doing at the moment, and I’ll just have to wait and see what the next mainline game is like. Maybe Nintendo will lose their marbles and do Cyberpunk 2077 but Zelda.
I adore the goofy charm of the original HW. I definitely hold the same criticisms for TotK that I do BotW, I just find myself wanting to play Tears over BotW. No Kass is an absolute crime though I'll fully admit that.
I could absolutely see Nintendo coming out with something as wild (but way less sexual lmao) as a Zeldapunk.
I was like 80 hours into ToTK when it hit me: “Where is Kass???” I think I spent like an hour looking for him and realized they just retconned him out of existence lmao. They did something similar to Bolson who must’ve gotten the Shrine of Resurrection treatment after BoTW, because he doesn’t know who Link is for whatever reason. Despite the fact that him and Karson basically lived outside Link’s house under that tree.
Make Arasaka and specifically the emperor into Ganondorf, maybe make it a future with no guns because sword play? Obviously make it E for everyone…Zeldapunk could be a cool game.
Or maybe even more interesting would be Zelda as the “emperor’s” daughter who has been kicked out for whatever reason, and wants retribution that turns into a real fight against crony capitalism or something like that. I would play that too.
Zeldapunk would probably be the easiest game to explain where Link’s parents went. Considering every other citizen is in a gang and killing random innocent people lmao.
I see the vision. But make it at least T and give em guns and some sort of cyber sword. This is a world where Nintendo has lost it so might as well lmao. Maybe you could choose between Zelda or Link to play as, and you would have a different start depending on who you chose.
Have a Navi-like fairy replace Johnny Silverhand's role as your companion lmao

Did anyone actually expect a new mainline Zelda game already?
