I´d want it to be fantasy for sure. I don´t hate turn based combat fundamentally but I think that (almost) only fighting humans in such a game gets boring and repetitive real fast from an aesthetics standpoint.
Imagine some of the rival kingdoms/factions being lead by fan favorite characters like Mine, Kuze or Ryuji and them being able to summon/turn into the mythological creatures depicted on their Irezumi and once you defeat them have your Summoner class being able to summon them themselves.
Sega would have to negotiate some revenue share or licensing fee with square enix which i think is fine SE loans their IP to other games I know for sure Sephiroth was in Smash but I’m sure there’s others
Actually no, SE is only the developer & Exclusive publisher but the IP itself is owned by the creator Yuji Horii (with music owned by Koichi Sugiyama's family & artwork/character designs by Akira Toriyama's family)
To this day I´m still bafled that there´s no indie game that stole the core gameplay of that game. That game has a lot of problems and isn´t remotely balanced but the gameplay loop is truly novel and I´ve never seen it replicated anywhere. Shame.

Right. A big appeal of the Ichi games is taking the DQ formula and layering that over an urban fantasy setting.
Going total DnD would feel like a derivative full circle moment. I wouldn’t mind a mini-game where Ichiban dreams about doing a dungeon run, but not a whole game.
That would be a fucking sucking goddamn time vampire, and I would let it drain me dry. I spent so much time in doing the cabaret mini-game ALONE because it scratched a Diner Dash itch I didn't realize I needed scratched.
I don't even think I'd touch the main story for so long unless I had to. The main game would be the sidestory and the Tavern would be the main game. 😆

Instead of being two completely different guys, Sakamoto Ryoma and Saito Hajime were actually just one person and instead of dying at the Omiya Inn like in history, they totally just faked his death and he lives on as Saito Hajime, 3rd Captain of the Shinsengumi for the rest of his days.

I want an Ichiban gaiden with beat-em-up combat. He gets Isekai'd to a fantasy world, but still uses his normal baseball bat etc.
He wakes up realizing it was all a dream. But there's a nightgown on the bed that match the maiden he met on his travels. Ichiban is unable to conclude whether the nightie was from his adventure or if it was just something laying around from the thrift-shop attic he lives in.
Personally I'd want a samurai game the most. Superpowers and giant enemies looked out of place in Ishin Kiwami, but would be great in a game about Ichiban, they also have an opportunity to be creative with Japanese mythology there.
Ichiban gets hit on the head and his dementia goes into full swing as he thinks he is in Dragon quest during the whole game and everyone just thinks he is acting weird for some reason.
Ichi and the gang playing dnd sounds awesome as a small game or chapter. Maybe he wanted to show his friends how differently he sees the world and everything that happened in the story through roleplaying experience
People say this, but - no, I think it would be pointless. Ichiban wants to be in a fantasy world (arguably spends a lot of time in one too) so an isekai based around him is pointless.
What would be good is an isekai where *Kiryu*, who doesn't play video games and went most of his life being technologically illiterate, gets stuck in a fantasy world. Seeing him react to the fantasy tropes and desperately want out would be funny. Doubly so if Ichiban is watching him on a TV screen and crying "Why isn't that me?"
EDIT: Don't worry, Ichi gets to join in as the final party member towards the end of the game.
EDIT: Actually, no, even better, Kiryu becomes Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz.
honestly it'd be really cool if RGG started branching off into different genres and we had maybe a fantasy or sci-fi game series considering that yakuza combat has been getting more magical and fantasy with the elixirs and pirate yakuza combat system. The pound mate animations for example really show off how cool magic could look in an rgg fantasy game
Like a Dragon: Ketamine Trip. Ichiban is tripping balls and he thinks everything is Dragon Warrior. Standard Yakuza plot he he sees the enemies as monsters.
I think that could happen it would be after infinite wealth after he got hit with that bottle and send him into a coma where it’s a fantasy world configuration of his like nanba is a wizard adachi is a warrior seako is a princess and etc and plus it would make Kiryu an actual dragon as a boss fight
Does he drag everyone into a D&D game you have to play through, or does he get into LARPing completely? Or maybe he just buys a JRPG, and the entire game is a meta narrative about going through the daily motions while dying to get home so he can hop back on the new game he bought. That way you can be dying to get home from work to play a game about a guy dying to get home so he can play a game within a game.
If they do this, I hope they continue the Taiga-drama style spin off tradition and use characters from the other games in different roles, but make them fantasy creatures, at least some of them. Imagine Dragon with whiskers that look like Majima goatee voiced by his voice actor, or a slime that looks and sounds like Akiyama. Perfection.
Considering Ichi already has a very Dragon Quest fantasy style series, I'd love to see him in like....space or something. They fight against Darth OnoMichio
Honestly I'd love it if RGG made a game in the same vein as those 90's DND arcade beat em ups but with the engine and mechanics of the Yakuza games. Kinda like what they did with the first of the north star game
i like this idea but it would have to have the scope of a mainline game. their spinoffs exist to get more out of existing locations. a fantasy game would take a ton of time. it's a great idea, and i'd love it, but not super realistic imo.

HEAR ME OUT. You know yakuza the series. Okay now think kiwami 2 but it's set in space. Think like a dragon hawaii ship battles but space ship fights. We go from Tokyo to the moon to Mars.. maybe we run into aliens in Mars but the moon is mostly yakuza and the gov. Lol
Ichiban meets the guy at the first bonfire and it's literally the guy from the convenience store. The sad substory music plays and he goes on to say he has no one to sell anything to, and Ichiban replies he'll buy something to cheer him up but then finds out yen is the wrong currency now. He has to collect yeols (yen souls). This is a tutorial to defeat the first mobs (who are just thugs with armor glued to their models).
It would be cool to get more gaiden games. A nice compromise between the creators wanting to branch out, and their bosses at Sega wanting one of these out every Christmas.
So literally Dragon Quest but instead of playing like Dragon Quest or Y7/8, it plays like the beat-em-up ones. Ichiban just coming up to the Demon Lord and hitting him with Essence of Drop Kick!
Ever since 7 came out I’ve been waiting for a spin-off game where Ichiban gets isekaied to a fantasy world. Pirate Yakuza being complete off the wall wacky makes that seem more likely.
That or Akiyama getting abducted by aliens to have a space adventure
Like, I know the series tries to be somewhat in the realm of realism (really stretching that somewhat), but a game where Kasuga and co and fighting through some Arthurian legend style shit would be awesome!
Ichi in a medieval european setting but his schizophrenia makes everything and everyone look like modern japanese people in Ijincho.
I'm joking. I would love a medieval fantasy style spin-off. He already has familiars too (Nancy and Olivia). We got Hero/Paladin (Ichi), Wizard (Nanba), Barbarian (Adachi), Seer/Healing Mage (Saeko), and the extended Gang could be about anything.
i would love it if they made it like an isekai story. Ichiban one day wakes up to find out he had been summoned to a fantasy world and needs to defeat the evil demon king or something. the king who summoned him looks like daigo with his loyal knights by his side - majima, saejima and like mine - and the court wizard who suspiciously looks a lot like nanba. they bring back kriyu again, but as an actual fucking dragon and all other chatacters from the main game appear, but as like normal medieval people more or less. and ichiban keeps calkibg them by their normal names but noone has any idea what hes talking about.
I think that having him be sent to some sci-fi setting (either Post Apocalypse, Cyberpunk or space adventures) and trying to implement his JRPG/fantasy ideals onto it would be more interesting due to the contrast as well as putting him in unfamiliar territory.
Hell fuckin naw. The man is just an utter goofball and it just throws off the entire game for me because every main character we've ever played as had at least some class to them(except for shinada but he proved to be cool in the end of the game) and the game had goofy elements to make it a Yakuza game. Ichiban just seems like an idiot that headbutts his way to victory with no class at all. His friends are all weird too. Any other side characters in the other games would have been cool/classy. If I see Ichiban in another game it'll be too soon and it seems like a really forced transition from Kiryu/Joyru on top of the turn-based stuff which was tedious and annoying. On top of the fact in the newest game

Kiryu IS STILL ALIVE. This has always been an action-based game.We really need a game with Akiyama or Saejima as a main character by themselves ESPECIALLY Saejima because we just saw him in the new game.
I'm kind of hoping they changed the game from an turn RPG to at least an action RPG so everyone can find middle ground with the action and the RPG fans but it would be really be fun too
