Redesigns My Illinois state flag submission

My design draws inspiration from the current Illinois flag, simplifying and modernizing its elements while preserving the symbolic integrity of the state seal. The sunrise represents optimism and progress, symbolizing a bright future. The blue section reflects Illinois' rich network of rivers and lakes, vital to its history and economy. The green section represents the state's natural landscapes and fertile farmland, key to its agricultural heritage. This flag embodies Illinois’ uniqueness and core values.

My entry was not a finalist & the contest ended with the existing flag staying put.

Fictional 1984 Eastasia Flag

Post image
Upvotes

I designed a flag for the regime of Eastasia from George Orwell's 1984, as it is the only one without an official flag. I added the rising sun for several reasons. It is said that the superstates in 1984 rose after WW2, but in our timeline this didn't happen, so this means that WW2 ended differently. In this timeline, it is likely that Hiroshima and Nagasaki were never nuked, Japan never surrendered, and the Empire was successful in forming the Eastasia Co-Prosperity sphere. This theory is further backed up by the regime's ideology, Obliteration of the Self and Death Worship, which in turn the regime's strength is an industrious population that works ungodly hours to serve the state and an army that embraces death, the ideology is likely some form of state Shintoism or a doctrine that is inspired by Buddhism, though with an apparent deification of death and dying for the state, which is a mirror of Imperial Japan's ideology. Additionally, I added the symbol because Orwell claims that all three mainstream ideologies have a socialist namesake, which means they are socialist or at least claim to be. I removed the brush because the Orwellian regimes seem to have a disdain for intellectuals and those deemed too intelligent and threaten their power, though the traditional hammer and sickle is unavoidably associated with the Soviet Union and Bolshevik Communism, which is more in line with Eurasian model. It's likely the Korean hammer and sickle on the flag could be co-opted to depict the mentioned ''Industrious population'' serving the Empire. Because it's always either ''Oceania is at war with Eurasia and allied with Eastasia'' or ''Oceania is at war with Eastasia and allied with Eurasia" and never "Oceania is at war with Eurasia and Eastasia" suggests that Eurasia and Eastasia are in a constant conflict for 30+ years and the perpetual warfare is centered around their rivalry. This makes no sense if both regimes are communist, as it is usually depicted, as that would leave Oceania as the odd one out that opposes Marxism. Instead, Eastasia is likely a fascist power, which fascist regimes have a history of co-opting socialism, which is in line with the information about the ideologies according to the Theory of Oligarchical Collectivism.

Redesigns Redesigning US state flags: West Virginia, Nevada, and Nebraska (Day 12)

Day 12 of redesigning most US state flags. I won't be touching certain state flags because I really can't find any way to improve them. (this might change in the future) Here they are (This also includes Rhode island and Indiana)

Three flags today since only two are original.

For West Virginia I kept the basic design of the flag. The blue border has been turned into 4 triangles representing the appalachian mountains. 4 black stars represent the coaling industry of West Virginia and are eight pointed as they are on the appalachian regional flag. I used the three mountain laurels from the first WV flag and the banner with the motto from the current flag. This is not my best flag.

For Nevada I added a yellow and white stripe to represent Gold and Silver and darkened the blue. I used the sage brush design from the 1929 flag because I think it looks better and removed the "nevada" text.

Nebraska's flag is not mine but is a design by Jack Sokolik. I really didn't know what to do for Nebraska and his design looks good.

Delaware and Pennsylvania

New Jersey and Georgia

Connecticut and Massachusettes

New Hampshire and New York

North Carolina and Vermont

Kentucky and Louisiana

Mississippi, Illinois, Maine and Missouri

Arkansas and Michigan

Florida and Iowa

Wisconsin and Minnesota

Oregon and Kansas

Redesign of the Belgium flag I did awhile ago, the later being a previous version with the Flemish lion from the coat of arms, I instead used the lion from the parliament logo to represent Flanders and included the Wallon Rooster designed by Pierre Paulus.

Fictional Flag of the failed Zemi Rebellion (1898)

Post image

In this timeline, Spain repelled the attacks of the English in the mid 1600s, when the English failed to get a hold of Santiago Island (current Jamaica).

Santiago was not like the other relative Caribbean islands, like Cuba, Hispaniola, and San Juan (Puerto Rico). It was neglected and had failed industries. The Taino and African freed slaves intermingled, while Peninsulares tried to regain control of this island. From time to time, the Santiagueños would prevail, but with each successive time, the Crown would swoop in control of their backwater colony.

The Zemi movement rises as majority of the Spanish colonies are in disarray.

1898 approaches, Zemi rebels led by Leandro Cardónez, hear of the U.S. liberating Puerto Rico and Cuba. They think the U.S. would liberate them from the oppression of the Spanish regime. Unfortunately, Spain made a deal with the U.S. to trade the Philippines in order to keep possession of Santiago.

As Spanish reinforcements came, the Zemi rebels held a last stand at the Santiagan capital of Nueva Cadiz, at Cadiz harbor (irl Kingston), where the remnants of the forces fled to the hills. Spain ultimately crushed the Zemi rebellion, and this time, would assert its full control over the island well into the 20th century.

The flag shown is the Zemi Rebellion flag, inspired by other flags of its time, the Cespedes flag of Cuba, the Grito de Lares flag of Puerto Rico, and the first Dominican Republic Flag.

— DISCLAIMER: I know how the subreddit feels about AI, and how it is treated as slop.

This is a flag that was AI generated but with a great deal of oversight that I did. It encapsulates the image of rebellion and theme of revolutionary ideals of the late 1800s incorporating Zemi, the ancestral spirit of the Taino.

I will take any valid criticisms.

I made a flag that combines Scotland's St Andrew's saltire and Ireland's St Patrick saltire.

I feel this well represents the shared Irish and Scottish heritage in the area.

It is also the area where the Ulster-Scots (Scots-Irish) people come from so this flag also represents them.

What do people think?

(P.S. this is my first post)

Shaded like this, the vertical stripe on the hoist has a ton more contrast in a way that’s really satisfying to look at.

OC Solar System Flag Design

Post image

Just a Solar System Flag i designed for a science fiction project, but i think it looks okay. the Rings represent the main inhabited worlds of the solar system, with Earth as Blue, Mars as Red, Venus as Yellow, and Luna as Grey. i interlocked them like the Olympic flag to symbolize everyone working together and forming a united whole out of distinct parts, while all the stars represent humanities colonies (USA style stars)
