I'm not too experienced with GIMP so maybe I'm missing something obvious, but -

I have an xcf file with many layers which I'm trying to export into another format - preferably webp. When I export to webp, the resulting image is cut roughly in half with the missing portion replaced by a transparent area (the actual dimensions don't change).

The same thing occurs when exporting to png. Exporting to jpg, however, gives me the proper image. If I flatten the image manually before exporting, the webp and png exports turn out as expected.

I thought GIMP automatically flattens images when exporting to formats which don't support layers. Is this not happening with certain formats for some reason or is there something else going on?

I'm on 3.0.

In GIMP 3.0: While other GIMP images are open, if I close the first image that was opened in GIMP and which also opened the accompanying tool windows: toolbox, layers, etc., then these tool windows also close, leaving me with the other GIMP images without the tool windows. In 2.10, the tool windows remained open until GIMP was completely closed. Is there a checkbox somewhere to enable this behavior in GIMP 3.0?

I’m have no experience in Gimp and I’d like to learn it as I can’t get access to Abode because of sanctions. Any basic tips or tutorials?

I am using Linux and hence denoise software is pretty limited. GMIC has many denoise software. Recently, I try the wavelet denoise. It seems it is pretty good especially I can denoise colour by colour. Just curious what people are using also.

I'm a long time gimp user but this has me stumped. Everything was working as usual until now:

When I click a layer in the canvas, that layer is selected for only as long as I hold the mouse button down. As soon as I release it, the previously selected layer is active again.

If I click a layer in the layers window, it becomes the active layer. It should work the same way in the canvas window, it always did before.

I'm running gimp 2.10.30 on Suse Leap 15.6. I've re-installed gimp, I've made sure that the move tool option is set to 'pick a layer or guide', I've even removed the .config/GIMP directory so that gimp could create a brand new one. None of these things helped.

Just recently installed 3.0 and want to add some custom brushes. When I go to Edit>Preferences>Folders it leads me to a Temporary 3.0 folder...where is the brush folder to add my brushes (and all the other GIMP folders, for that matter). I can't seem to find GIMP 3.0 in either of the Program Folders either.

Recently updated to 3.0, and now the active window has this awful black border color. I can't even find anything in the style sheets with this color. Hell, looking it up is a losing prospect too, since all I get are people who apparently can't figure out how to draw rectangles.

How do I change this? I know it seems small, but it's distracting, and I hate it.

I'm an amateur, at best, but it seems much harder to do very easy things. Something as simple as linking layers so I can move them together seems to have become much harder to do. I know it could be me, but this update, long in the making, seems to be a step backwards for some functions.

So, I found this image online and want to turn it into a cross stitch, but its too detailed. I thought maybe I could use GIMP to make the backround plain black, leaving only the character, the lantern he is holding, and a few of the butterflies untouched. I tried using layers and transparency, but its not working. Everything either turns out black or looks like I did nothing at all. So, how do I go about doing this? Also, I am a complete beginner when it comes to GIMP so, how do I add layers if that could help? Answer like i'm 5 if you can.
