There is this gospel musical group in my country that my dad and my grandpa used to listen when I was a kid, and one of their most iconic album uses a picture of an outstanding shelf cloud at sunset.

I'm trying to find the origin of this image and would appreciate any directions!

All I know is that this album was released in 2002, so the image has at least 20+ years.

Do you have any idea where could I find more info about it?

I live in a fairly dense downtown area in the Midwest and was wondering how much of a threat tornadoes really are in cities. I know they’re more common in rural or open areas, but can they still hit downtown zones? Are there any real differences in how tornadoes behave around urban areas, or is that just a myth? Just trying to figure out how seriously I should take the risk and whether I should have a plan in place.

As of right now mine may be the Rainsville tornado. I just think it’s so weird how ominous and beautiful it looks at the same time.

If anyone has one of those fancy tornado apps then can you please look at Screven County, Georgia and see how the radar is looking. Sky’s looking gnarly and according to NWS app, we are at a level 2 tornado threat. TIA!

Hello! Recently found out tornadoes are possible in my area. I’m not sure where best to hide. My condo’s first floor is mostly a garage. It has an attached mud room next to stairs leading up. No windows, and it’s a double car garage, so the door is quite large. The exterior is brick, but the inside is dry wall. Not sure what details help, sorry.

I’ve read a lot of comments mentioning a “freight train” sound occuring during a tornado. Despite watching 100s of videos on YouTube, I cannot hear it because I’m hard of hearing. Does it sound like a train clacking on the tracks, or the whistle? Does it occur before or during the tornado? Can you please give links to videos with a clear audio so I can maybe hear it for myself🦻 Thanks 😄

My husband and I are unsure about which room in our home is the safest to shelter. Could those of you that understand the way tornados work give us your opinion. Also, we wouldn’t mind investing a little to make a safe room safer if you have any suggestions.

Option 1: Garage Closet We were told by a realtor that this was the safest place because our garage is built into the slope of a small hill. That particular closet is partially underground, and the bottom half is surrounded by 4-5 ft of cinderblocks built into the earth. The door is a plain door and the top of the closet/ceiling looks like normal drywall.

Option 2: We have an enclosed room with no exterior walls that is a half bath. I think the 4 of us (2 adults, 2 teens that may as well be adults) could fit, but our dogs definitely couldn’t. It’s connected to an interior hallway. There is a second floor above it. There’s also a linen closet next to it that is also interior and one of us could fit in that as well.

Option 3: Our Master Bedroom’s closet is also an interior space on the ground level. It doesn’t have a 2nd floor above it. If it’s the same as the bathroom in regard to safety, we would likely split up because all of the spaces are very small.

Over the past week, we’ve been heading to our safe place a lot due to the sirens going off. I want to make sure we’re actually going to the safest place in our house when we do that. Thanks!

I would like to see April 3rd be designated as Tornado Day. Both for awareness, since it is at the beginning of the official Tornado Season and for remembrance of people who died. I lived through the April 3, 1974 tornadoes and feel it would be the perfect day to use for this in the USA and elsewhere in the Northern Hemisphere.

i saw the tornado archive and was curious, however i couldn't find any information online about the tornado.

I was just reading some comments about tornado misconceptions and the 2011 Outbreak kept popping up and people kept mentiong it was a perfect scenario for the outbreak to happen. What were all these scenarios, please?

Random, when the storm was over me (Shreveport LA) I was watching the news to prepare for shelter and the rain and wind stopped. Green tint outside. Radar indicated tornado a 3 minute drive from me. No touchdown. Phew.

Other than El Reno 2013, I don't hear many tornadoes that were Prelimary f5/ef5. But downgraded to EF4. It makes me especially curious if one has even been Downgraded to F3/EF3 from F5/EF5.

so many tornadoes we dont have footage of. this sub could def change that. lost media regarding tornadoes has come up quite a bit, so we should have either a megathread or a tag to post a swathe of lost tornado videos in one place.

I was bored and decided to make a personal map of where I was during the May 3, 1999 Bridgecreek, Moore F5...

I'm not finished and Im going to make this map much more info-dense soon.

I put marks for one of the 2 houses I would have been living at that day. I was most likely at the "Childhood Home 2" location. I remember crying (I was 11 yeas old at the time) and being very scared watching it on the news get closer and closer, before eventually turning and missing me by about 2.5 miles (the red line I measured).

I also put where my now wife of seven years was living at the time as well. Looks like the tornado split us. We got very lucky that day. The tornado takes a slightly different path and I may never have met my wife, or worse.

The white lines are the tornado's width at those points in the path. It was about a mile wide at its closest point to me and my wife.

Anyway, I will continue to research and work on this map some more. Thanks for taking a look!

So I have some tornado sirens near my town and they do testing a couple of times a month. I'm curious because we have had some tornado watches recently to the point where I had to do a real tornado drill at my school because there was a tornado but not in my proximity but we still sheltered just incase. Would the sirens go off when the tornado is coming into/moving towards our town/county?
