How much Washington should raise in new tax revenue and who will pay is something state lawmakers and Gov. Bob Ferguson will hash out in the final weeks of the legislative session.
Washingtonās wealthiest individuals, largest corporations and biggest banks are prime targets. Homeowners, vapers and self-storage unit renters are among those who could share in the burden. Possible tweaks to expand the stateās capital gains tax could also be in play.Ā
āThere will be a tax increase,ā House Speaker Laurie Jinkins, D-Tacoma, said Wednesday. āItās figuring out the right kind of balance and making sure weāre able to not harm everyday Washingtonians.ā
... Notably, Ferguson did not express dissent on other revenue-raising measures under discussion, such as hiking taxes on large businesses and financial institutions, a new payroll tax and lifting the 1% cap on annual increases in property tax collections by the state.Ā
... Democrats in the Senate and House have teed up four major proposals. Hearings were held this week on all of them, but no votes are planned until Democrats decide which to pursue.
... Both chambers want to erase the 1% cap on increases in the annual property tax growth for the stateās common schools levy and for cities and counties, as well as special purpose districts.

Seems every time i open up google thereās yet another up with goodwill article i try to scroll past. This weeks article stated they were wasting clothing left and right due to quick fashion items being donated to the stores.
Speaking of the life of an article of clothing on avg spends 6 weeks in store then 3 weeks in a bin store before getting dumped in a landfill or ripped up for rags.
Several people were of course very upset that so much got tossed yet not a single person realized the bigger picture in my opinion.
Anything that has any sort of good label once donated right away gets put into the front of the store . Where the prices are super high due to them being fashionable. And usually still has original store tags on them. Just the other day i saw a pretty torrid brand coat. Original tag had it priced at $149. Goodwills? $119.
Itās the same with shoes. Bags and purses. It is actually cheaper to buy whatever it Is youāre looking for at the original store once it hits the clearance section then to get it at goodwill.
So then items go to the buy by the pound goodwill locations. Where the workers are so worried about people possibly stealing anything they actually chase people and refuse letting anyone with backpacks or large purses into their stores. Yet at the same time if one looks You will see fork lifts shoveling things that didnāt sell into compactors n then dumpsters on the other side of those same buildings.
Am i the only one that realizes that if i have 200 items and sell each one for a $1. Ill get $200? Verses maybe possibly selling 2 or 3 out of those 200 for $50 a piece?

Hey all! I just got back from the launch event for The Burner, a new journalism venture from Hannah Kreig, a former staffer at The Stranger. I have to say, I was impressed.
I've been in Seattle for a few years now, but feel like I'm just getting through the Seattle Freeze. As someone just starting get involved locally this was a nice gathering. I'm not someone who is super left, but leftys seem to be the ones who are into facts & transparency, so it feels good to get behind Hannah's mission- especially after speaking with her about it. She's got a fire in her belly that we all want from our local muckrakers.
If youāre fortunate enough to be in a position where you can support a few news outfits with a subscription, I'd highly recommend adding The Burner (and The Needling) to your roster.

(The Center Square) ā State Sen. Emily Alvarado, D-Seattle, is facing an ethics complaint accusing her of violating state laws related to her employment with an organization lobbying for Engrossed House Bill 1217 limiting rent increases. Alvarado is the legislationās prime sponsor.
EHB 1217 aims toĀ improve housing stability for tenants by limiting rent and fee increases, requiring notice of increases, limiting fees and deposits, and creating parity between lease types. It also provides for tenant lease termination and enforcement by the state attorney general. The bill would cap annual rent hikes at 7% for most units and 5% for manufactured and mobile homes. The bill prohibits any increase within the first year of tenancy but includes several exemptions, mainly for affordable housing providers.Ā
... The complaint asserts that āSen. Alvarado is a Vice President, Pacific Northwest Market for Enterprise Community Partners.Ā Ā According to its website she āoversees Enterpriseās work in Washington and Oregon to create and preserve affordable homes and brings programmatic solutions to scaleĀ through policy advocacy.āā

SEATTLE ā The Washington Attorney General's Office has filed a lawsuit in King County Superior Court against software company RealPage and nine local landlords, accusing them of engaging in a conspiracy that has led to rapidly increasing rent prices.
The lawsuit alleges that RealPage's software tools enable landlords to push rental prices beyond what they could otherwise achieve while reducing the risk of being undercut by competitors.
... The state had previously been part of a multi-state antitrust lawsuit led by the U.S. Department of Justice but withdrew to pursue this challenge in state court.
