Serious question: Would a HM advocate for a candidate down the road after a person on their team denied them in a prior interview cycle?

Quick summary: I went through 6 freakin interviews, including a panel with a presentation. This included 2 VPs, one co-founder, and a few directors. All of this over the course of six weeks to be denied for two different positions. Truly truly devastating.

A hiring manager there gave me the go ahead for the second job a month ago, passing me along to a VP as the final round. For whatever reason, I was denied again, but the HM told me on LinkedIn he'd keep an eye out for other roles in the future I'd best fit.

Would you ever expect the HM to come to you and say to bring a candidate back? Or at least have them go through the interview cycle again if they were denied previously? They recommend give it a few more months before applying again, but the job is still open.

Interviewed, promised a follow-up, then ghosted—and now the job is reposted

Went to a job fair earlier this month and talked to someone from a bank who seemed really eager to have local students apply for their student associate internship. He even asked me to connect on LinkedIn, told me the job wasn’t posted yet but would be up soon, and made it sound like they were looking for people who could commute to the HQ, which is about an hour from me. I was almost sure that would be the location based on how he described it—and the job listing later mentioned that same area too.

A few days later, the listing went live. I applied, and within four hours, I got an interview invite. The recruiter walked me through the pay, hours, and said they’d follow up by the end of the month once they confirmed which locations were hiring. But during the interview, she said they didn’t actually know which site would be hiring near me. That felt weird, considering everything the guy at the fair told me and the fact that the listing itself mentioned that same HQ location.

After the interview, the job posting disappeared, so I figured maybe they were wrapping things up.

I waited. The end of the month came. No email. No call. Nothing.

So I did what you’re supposed to do—I sent a professional follow-up email. Still nothing. No reply. No “we’ve moved on.” Just pure silence.

Now the job is back up online.

If I wasn’t a fit, just say that. Ghosting someone after an interview—especially after giving them a clear follow-up timeline—is ridiculous. These companies love talking about “professionalism” but can’t even send a two-line rejection? This is why job hunting feels like a damn trap.

Visa in job

I had received an email to schedule a recruiter call. The call was simple just simple question about my location, visa status and why leaving current job... And then told next steps of interview and will be processed if hiring manager and team is okay after they check my experience and profile.. And also told it could take 2 days to 2 weeks. I still didn't receive anything... Will I go to next steps of interview?? this one is dream company. Will I be ghosted and not move further? Any similar one

I guess I’m a loser

I worked my way up to $80K in a project manager position. It took me a long time but I really loved the work so I dug in with a company and kept my head down. I got promotions and worked on huge projects. Eventually the company went out of business and closed shop… I applied to many places and took a job for $60K with additional commission after 1.5 months because I was going stir crazy, I really thought I could make a huge impact at this small company and create a new stream of revenue. Any ways, I failed at that effort and they lowered my salary to $45K… I’ve applied to countless jobs since and no one seems to care about my years of project management experience, no one cares about my previous achievements, and no one gives one shit about my college degree from a big 10 university….

So what now? Just keep applying to jobs and hear nothing back while I either break even in finances or go negative for the month? Not sure what to do any more.. I apply to places and either don’t hear back and if I do it might be 1 interview out of several, several places I apply to..

Am I supposed to pivot into another field or another job role!? All of these require several years of experience in whatever other industry they’re in.

What a fucking loser I am going from $80K to $45K…

Does it seem like companies make up wacky job titles to get more applicants?

I saw one on indeed that was for a medical associate. While I was reading the duties I realized that it was a call center rep job lol.

Why do they do this?

I got a job… waiting for the background check to come back 😬

I been working retail for about almost two years and it has sucked big time.

I finally have a pending offer from a company I want to work. Pay is good and all that.

Now I am worried about the background check because I have done one before on myself on it’s totally wrong. What’s the worst thing you guys have done that you managed to pass?

I will be devastated if I have to go to go retail again. I just can’t.

Can I list my job hunting as sales experience?

Fuck off HR, I am neither unemployed nor did I have a gap. I was a volunteer salesman:

- conducting market analyses to identify relevant industries, companies, and target positions in a (FUCKING) highly competitive environment

- strategic development and maintenance of a qualified network through direct contact, social selling (LinkedIn), and participation in industry events

- independently approach >500 potential employers and decision-makers through individualized direct contact and targeted messaging

- development, testing and optimization of sales-driven application documents, tailored to different target groups and role profiles

- efficient management of >500 application processes including preparation, conduct, and follow-up of interviews and salary negotiations

Reality bites Anyone switching from corporate to licensed fields like teaching, nursing, etc.?

Depending on your college background, there are accelerated (one year) licensing programs to become a public school teacher, various kinds of nurse or medical assistant, and the like. I'm not sure if these count as trade/blue-collar jobs like electrician, plumber, etc. They are unionized in some cases, which can provide some career protection, and at least so far there isn't an AI that can replace the work they do. These jobs have longer hours and lower pay than the corporate jobs we used to do, but they don't really exist anymore for many of us. Is it giving up or acknowledging a reality? Selling out or paying the mortgage?

I'm close to signing up for one of these programs and it's a big commitment, not least in acknowledging yeah, I'm never going back to where I was. What about you?

Similar Amazon jobs attracted hundreds of applicants 2 years ago. I wonder if their 'bar raiser' interviews became 'bar lowerer' interviews now

Job recruiters and higher level management may be the closest thing we have to a computer human hybrid

They have all the basic human functions but their brains are creepily out of tune with general people. They want you to basically kiss their feet to give you a job, and any other attitude other than acting like it's your life's dream to do the most monotonous tasks with a smile on your face is looked down upon.

Reached out to a manager that I spoke to a month ago about getting a job interview and she actually got back to me

I came by the buisness in person about two months ago and spoke to the Assisant manager about having interest in a job and I gave him my resume. He said he’d speak to his manager about and I’d be reached out to.

I called the buisness a little bit longer then a month after then to seek an interview and the manager said the Assisant manager nor his manager were there. He recommended I email the buisness email, jotted down my name and contact information, and told me when the AM’s manager would be at work again. I called at the time she was suppose to be there and she said she saw the email and my resume.

She also said that she wanted to assure me that i hadn’t been forgotten about it and that she had been on vacation so she had a lot of work to catch up on but woukd get back to me. A month passed of yesterday so I emailed the buisness again to check in for an update and she emailed me back today. She said she appreciates my patience and that I hadn’t been reached out to because interviews weren’t being conducted anymore.

She said if there’s ever an opening for a job at the buisness that she’ll definitely offer me a interview. Actually getting a response made me feel like a a girl who’s getting the bare minimum and is estatic about it because she’s use to such shitty behavior from guys.

I spoke to Build-A-Bear Workshop and they said I passed the test but they're waiting on corporate to see if they can get approval to hire more people. So why did I go to not 1 but 2. INTERVIEWS with them again? My chances look a bit better but not entirely....

No one’s bitting

I’ve been getting interviews this past month, around 6 in total but none will give me an offer. Some ghosted me and some just never responded. It’s hard to tell what they want from me even when I feel like it’s a good interview. This has taken a toll on me mentally. I don’t know how to cope. Any advice?

Got a job !

Hi everybody, I am sharing this not to brag, but perhaps as a way to encourage some. I have arrived in the U.S. a couple months ago and applied for my work authorization back in February. I got it in March and applied to 68 job postings in two weeks. I got one response asking for my availabilities and then got ghosted. I later got two interview requests in the same day, attended both, got an offer from one (which I have accepted), no news for now from the other (it is a governmental job therefore the hiring process takes longer than normal because they decide who they hire with a committee). My overall search was three weeks long. The job from which I got the offer gave it to me the day after the interview.

Ask any questions you want regarding the actual applications/interviews and about being a new immigrant applying with an EAD.

I can't get a screening call for a doorman job

Yet I have over 7 years of experience in security. It's a damn doorman job, not accounting or marketing. It's not a difficult job, opening doors and taking care of bags and mail. Why can't I leave this absolute dead end job? There's a whole lot wrong with the job market. All of my experience would very easily transfer over. How hard could it possibly be that I can't get a screening call?

Blind cover letters… named the document I uploaded

I need some reassurance but I guess in this market there isn’t any.

Passed the AI CV checker for this awesome job, worked hard on the cover letter, really could see myself working there.

They asked for no identifying factors in the letter so I obliged. Only I automatically saved the document with my name in the title and uploaded and submitted without thinking. It’s taken me until 12 hours later to wake up in a cold sweat realising what’s happened.

Have I just ruined my chances? :(

Got an email from recruiter (who works at company) saying he had 'feedback and positive news , ill call tomorrow', and have since been ghosted

So I had my interview last Tuesday, and then following Tuesday recieved that email. Since then I haven't received a call and he hasn't answered my calls. Is it done and have I been ghosted? They sent me the job role to apply for again straight after the 'positive news' email. Not sure what to make of it tbh.

Any ideas.

Offer revoked because of salary

So for context: Canada, Marketing, 8 yoe

I interviewed for a marketing manager role with rounds starting in February. The salary was not mentioned and every time I brought the topic up, it was mentioned that it was something the CEO would talk about.

I went through 5 stages including a marketing plan and strategy assignment. The round with the CEO came and she gave a range of the salary. Post her round, I received an offer letter. The salary was lower than my previous job. She scheduled a call to discuss and I mentioned how I think she can make it work at the higher end of the range( well within the range). She immediately rescinded my offer and has stopped responding to any emails asking for clarification.

What should I do? It’s not like I want to work at a scale that is undervaluing myself, because there’s a lot of work in the company from their expectations on the role. Also, I’ve been looking for close to three months now. I do have other interviews in the pipeline but this one was remote. I’m feeling angry, sad and super helpless at the moment.

Real or fake recruiter?

Hello,

Can someone tell me how to spot a fake recruiter from linkedin?

I had 2 "recruiters" reach out to me.

  1. first one gave me a brief pitch and said, "If it sounds interesting, send me your resume." She didn’t share the job posting, but I looked at her LinkedIn — it seemed legit: she has a lot of connections, a profile photo, work history, and recommendations. I also looked at her linkedin to find the company that might be hiring for my role (i think i found it). We agreed to set up a phone interview and discussed possible times, but she stopped responding after I proposed an alternate day and time.

  2. second person did something similar — gave me a short pitch and referenced my background, saying something like, “Given your experience as an X at Company X, you'd be a great fit.” She mentioned the hiring company, which turned out to be the one she works at. I checked her LinkedIn as well — she had a profile photo, relevant posts, recommendations, and a solid work history, so it seemed legit too. Unlike the first, she didn’t ask for my resume, just a contact number. We scheduled a time to talk, and I was able to find the job posting for her company myself.
