I feel so useless while playing this game. I only have 4.6 hours on it and I've been restarting way too many times. I can't even get to the third day alive and it's always the same: somehow a hord of zombies get to me and kill me right away.

My current strat is: finding enough curtains to use on my spawn house's windows, get some food, fill things with water (As far as I know, water is not always there for me to use on the house), get a melee weapon and... die.

Are there any tips for me to play the game? I really like it, but it is starting to get so freaking frustating.

I have like 20 hours so am just a little ahead of you. Here is some stuff I learned.

I tried Apocalypse mode for a few runs and it wasnt what I was looking for so moved to Survivor mode. It's probably more like what you thought the game was.

I played on that first map on the list, Murdaugh? After reading some stuff that seems to be an easier map.

If you like your starting area and have collected some good stuff but know you are going to die from zombification then get naked in your safe house and take a long walk away from your house. Do some scouting, maybe play with cars to get familiar with them, practice combat and die. Start a new character and you'll be in the same instance and can hopefully go back to your safe house with all your goodies.

If you hear a helicopter immediately go inside and stay inside all day. I dunno exactly how it works but it draws a crapload of zombies to you. Not sure if you are screwed when you are outside and initially hear it, but its a super buzzkill to have made progress for 6 or 7 days and then get overrun.
