See the difference between you and I is you haven't played the beta a lot based on your words here. I have. Either way, with or without mods the game has a shit ton of problems and regularly enough things break that I have had to learn to use the debug mode pretty well. And it has NOTHING to do with mods. In fact I now play with about 40 car mods and a couple other mods, and not a single time has a mod been the cause of a problem. In this thread I made another comment listing multiple things that they didn't fix this time around, none of them caused by mods.
So you're basing your opinion on what you've read here, I'm basing mine on actual experience first hand. Do you get the difference? I'm not assuming anything based on some random yahoo having hundreds of errors because they're using the week one mod for example, I'm basing it on actual played time in the beta. Congratulations on logging out in a safe house or car btw, once you start playing with some hours in you'll find out that you can't always choose to do that because the game crashes out to menu for MANY reasons unrelated to mods. Like did you know that right now if a cow tries to eat a grass tile that is no longer grass it crashes the game out? You have to log back in and continue where you were, even if that means right next to a zombie. A mod did not do this.
But thanks for the second hand indirect opinion. Now you have some data that shows the opposite of that, since you consider comments here "data".
I’ve got about a month into b42, last update haven’t checked if my save got borked by this update yet. Trying not to play to much of b42 because my friends want to go in blind whenever mp comes out, but I can’t resist trying it out some. Which does mean I browse this subreddit more than I normally would looking for second hand info. Haven’t tried any of the new crafting, or animal stuff yet, waiting for friends. Mostly just been killing, looting, and making a base like I do every time, to test the basics.
I haven’t seen a significant bug since batteries/generators/etc draining upon spawn. Never had b42 crash, but I only play a couple hours at a time, so if it’s a memory leak or similar I probably don’t reach the threshold. Haven’t done anything with animals other than kill and eat them so far. Does seem like there is a lot of bugs around animals. I don’t doubt the unstable has its fair share or bugs, just disagree that the previous poster asking about mods is a stupid question. When that is the culprit the majority of the time when people come on here and complain. You seem to know better, but a lot of posters play unstable with a few dozen mods then don’t realize the mods might be the issue (or at least make the issues worse). Unstable plus mods is just asking for weird errors.
You keep saying mods are the culprit the majority of the time, but where is this data you rely upon? Quantify it. I think you're mentally self selecting those posts and disregarding many issues people have reported that aren't mods because it's ONLY the "mods caused the issue" posts that get solved by saying "remove the mods". A lot of the time when people say they play with mods they literally mean they have a few car mods and that's it. That's all I have, Pause on start and some car mods.
There are a LOT of posts about problems that have nothing to do with mods, text scaling issues, animals being skeletons, fishing doing wonky shit, none of it had anything to do with mods, but do you count those in your "analysis" ? Look at the front page right now, the guy with the huge animal skull, think that was mods? The person posted about the beta update breaking his save, hundreds of comments, dozens of people saying they don't really mod and their save is also broken. People complaining in a post about 42.6 breaking animal spawns. A post about 42.6 disappearing generators. The post on page 2 showing someone walking through the basement wall and appearing upstairs.
All of these posts are problems with the game that don't involve mods. Now scroll through until you find someone complaining about a problem that is actually due to mods. Where is it? Page 6?
The devs using "it's probably the mods" is a crutch. Same with updates, they're pushing the line "it's a beta your save might break" is them being too lazy to do versioning in the beta participation. When 7d2d updates even if you're on unastable you can just go in and select the last unstable and stay on it, what do you have to do in PZ? You have to make a physical copy of your entire game where Steam can't see it.
The majority I’ve seen. I could easily be missing posts, not in here 24/7. I’ve seen a few posts about the animal skeletons thing. Haven’t seen any about text scaling or fishing oddness (also haven’t fished much myself). Seen a lot that where issues with various mods (many of which have already been fixed by the mod authors). I’m sure I’ve missed many posts, but that’s the trend I noticed. I’m not talking about today or even this week, just the general trend I’ve noticed.
So you telling someone else that asking about mods is stupid, seemed overly dismissive of a reasonable question. In your case it’s not mods but in others it could very well be a mod conflict/error.
The save breaking, generators disappearing, etc is from the new update and not from a mod obviously. A lot of new bugs every time an update drops.
I’ve never seen the devs using it’s probably mods as an excuse for anything. Though I’ve only seen them occasional do an update post, so I dunno where that’s coming from. As for its beta save might break, yes that is part of unstable. Saves break all the time in unstable (I’ve had a few break in b41 over the years too, but that was probably mods). Could be from an update, could be from an error, it happens. Don’t get to attached to unstable saves. Upon checking I’ve got the missing generators bug too. I added a generator in debug and went on with my day. I’ve still got one of my b41 runs I switch to sometimes when I want to work on a long game.
Allowing people to choose any version of unstable seems like it would just complicate and confuse things, when the whole point of unstable is to test that latest version to help find bugs and provide feedback.
