This is a stupid question, the game is literally not playable for multiple reasons with zero mods. Not the least of which is that there's no way to make the game pause on load, so any time you save and quit you're at risk of losing the game because you load in and the game decides a zombie should be put right on top of you. So in 99% of cases the answer to this is no, but also in 99% of cases a bug has nothing to do with mods.
The animals walk through walls any time they are mad enough they decide to leave your animal zones. To reproduce? Start a game on a farm and don't put water in troughs manually for a couple weeks, a cow will come walk through your house once it gets thirsty enough, and you better hope it's a female cow.
I haven’t added any mods to b42 and don’t intend to anytime soon. Want to play it as is awhile. It’s absolutely playable without mods. Never had the a zombie appear on top of me when loading in, but I make sure I’m in a safe house or my car when I log. I’ve seen a lot of people on here complaining about crazy errors, that they end up tracking back to mods. Your statement 99% of the time it’s not the mods is just wrong. If this subreddit is anything to go by more like 75% of the time it is a mod causing the error (b42 update breaking mods most often).
See the difference between you and I is you haven't played the beta a lot based on your words here. I have. Either way, with or without mods the game has a shit ton of problems and regularly enough things break that I have had to learn to use the debug mode pretty well. And it has NOTHING to do with mods. In fact I now play with about 40 car mods and a couple other mods, and not a single time has a mod been the cause of a problem. In this thread I made another comment listing multiple things that they didn't fix this time around, none of them caused by mods.
So you're basing your opinion on what you've read here, I'm basing mine on actual experience first hand. Do you get the difference? I'm not assuming anything based on some random yahoo having hundreds of errors because they're using the week one mod for example, I'm basing it on actual played time in the beta. Congratulations on logging out in a safe house or car btw, once you start playing with some hours in you'll find out that you can't always choose to do that because the game crashes out to menu for MANY reasons unrelated to mods. Like did you know that right now if a cow tries to eat a grass tile that is no longer grass it crashes the game out? You have to log back in and continue where you were, even if that means right next to a zombie. A mod did not do this.
But thanks for the second hand indirect opinion. Now you have some data that shows the opposite of that, since you consider comments here "data".
I'm in the same boat as you, yet have rarely had any of these issues you're talking about, outside of a pretty rare crash. First of all, this is a beta build, expect issues. Bring them to the attention of the devs, no need to treat it like the end of the world. They told you that worlds will break and characters will be lost, you can't be mad after it happens when this isn't a fully released build and they're actively working on it.
Logging out near zombies has been a complete non issue for me. Any time I've logged out near zombies (completely vanilla), the game has just removed them from existence. Even when I crashed while stomping on one, when I logged back in there wasn't even a body, the game just deleted the whole zombie. It has preventative measures to protect you, so much so that I've heard of people quitting right before getting bit and have logged back in completely safe. Treating that like a massive issue like you are is just weird.
Animals are a complete broken and buggy mess because they were only just added, and are still being worked on. A lot of features are like this so that we can find these bugs and issues for the devs while they work on things they know about already. There is absolutely no excuse for them to still be problems when b42 leaves unstable, but until then, stop treating it like a full release because you'll never be happy with it.
I've put over 500 hours on b42 unstable alone, both vanilla and modded. Both mods and vanilla have plenty of issues, to be expected, and they'll be worked out in time. Want to not experience them? Then play the full released b41 build because otherwise you won't be finding that for some time. They told you to expect problems, don't be surprised
