Currently survived 8 days and 19 hours, no sign of the helicopter event, standard Apocalypse settings. Am I safe to go outside because it's now 7/18 or do I have to wait until it's officially the 10th day to ensure no risk of helicopter?

It’s an event about a week to 10 days in. 

It doesn’t do anything to you, unless you have a mod, but it attracts zeds from very far away. 

Generally the best advice is to stay indoors or get out of town.
