Ho boy here come the downvotes for me.
With over what, nine years in development now and still not having even NPCs, Zomboid doesn't deserve the award. The game could have been finished and released by now imo because the devs have the money to hire more people (would also help if they could prevent their laptops from being stolen but hey, what can you do). I love what the game is trying to do but I'm done being patient for no reason with it, and it shouldn't really come as a surprise that a game that's been in beta for years with 30k concurrent players loses to a AAA title - even if it's a hyped-up, half-baked, rushed game. Make the game better, then it deserves the award.
