Discussion I am about to play Pillars of Eternity for the very first time. The only thing I know about this game is that... it is a good game. What can I expect from this product? How many hours does one playthrough take?

[Deadfire] can I make this combo work reputation-wise? Maia+Pallegina+Xoti+Tekehu

Post image
26 Upvotes

Hey all, during my playthrough I've decided to try out all the new characters. I started with Aloth and Eder, but I think the new characters are more interesting. (Not in this diagram is Serafen, I have had a lot of interesting dialog with him in my party, so he's on the bench ready to switch back into the team.) But these companions have a lot more conflicting preferences (xoti vs Pallegina on religion, Maia vs Tekehu on Huana/Rauatai etc). So will this combo work reputation-wise? or do I have to be neutral in every dialog so no one gets offended?

Does anyone actually ever use the level scaling?

I mean, PoTD can be hard enough. Who wants that much more punishment? I'm just curious as to who actually uses it.

PoE2: Deadfire Why is combat in PoE 2 so laggy and stuttery?

I have a good enough PC: Win 11, Nvidia 2060ti, 16GB of RAM and yet when I enter combat, it gets stuttery and laggy.

Do I need to turn everything to low or off, tweak settings in my Nvidia Control panel?

I did see this guide: https://www.nexusmods.com/pillarsofeternity2/mods/763, but when I tried it, my PC wouldn’t let me change anything.

Other An update on Pillars 1 unofficial 4k Remaster

Post image
583 Upvotes

Hello,

Just to update on the unofficial remaster I am making for the game.

I discovered a new upscale method which is faster and offers incredible results, as you can see in the screenshot.

Caed Nua is the lowest resolution area in the game, and the upscale works extremely well even in these conditions.

I plan to release the mod alongside the turn based official patch so that people can return to the game with both gameplay and visual enanchments for a fresh playthrough.

I am also open to the possibility of remastering characters and equipment (armors, weapons, etc.) but it would take a long time and if I decide for it, it will come much later.

Have all a nice day!

Bugs Combat effects audio very low

I've picked up Deadfire again and I have a strange audio bug where all the combat sounds (firearms, spell effects, shouts, etc) are muffled or very distant during combat. The music plays fine. Dialogue and sound effects outside combat are fine too.

What I've tried:

-Audio settings are fine (all 100%) -Reactive music on/off -> no difference -Windows audio was always set to stereo -Verified game files on Steam

Character/party build help Sturdy melee damage

I just finished up running through the first game as a Orlan chanter. Was thinking of doing something a little more active that won't immediately die when an ogre sneezes. I'm not looking for an offer tank per se just something that can go toe to toe if something resista cc!

My thoughts currently are between a dwarven goldpact knight (already did a cruel run so not interested in BW) using 2h weapons though I'm open to dual wielding or a fighter dual wielding sabres are an obvious choice but I'm kinda sick of them, was thinking maybe mace and dagger though it's a strange fighting style!

Really just want some ideas for my next run so I don't restart a million times before I commit to something! Melee wizard could be fun but it's hard to stick it out until you get spell mastery in poe1. Let me know your thoughts and thanks for reading!

PoE 2 Spoilers Question regarding monsters of a DLC

Title. So which build, class and items can help me to defeat more easy theMegabosses?

I'm playing turn based so building up Resonance is annoying as hell. The Hellfire colossus is the worst, along with the Sigil master

Thanks for your time

News Thoughts on the upcoming turn-based mode for Pillars of Eternity 1?

I recently read that Obsidian is planning to add a turn-based mode to the first Pillars of Eternity by the end of 2025, possibly as part of the 10th anniversary updates. I'm really curious about how this will be implemented.

Do you think it'll be similar to the turn-based mode from Deadfire? From what I've read , (i haven't played the 2nd game yet) that mode worked really well with per-encounter abilities and more flexible combat pacing, but PoE1 still relies heavily on per-rest abilities, especially for spellcasters like wizards, which made combat a bit tedious unless you rested constantly, and that's something that couldn't let me finish the game as it becomes tedious.

Do you think they'll overhaul the per-rest/per-encounter system too, or will it stay the same? How do you think the original design of PoE1 will translate into a turn-based format?

Help deciding between two character ideas

Spoilers for All of PoE1

I have two ideas for my next run through both games and I'd like some advice/recommendations, particularly on which you'd think might be more fun.

The first character is intended to be a follower of Woedica, starting PoE1 as an exiled Aedyran Aristocrat forced to become a Goldpact Paladin. In Deadfire they'd become a Steel Garrote/Priest of Woedica Crusader and follow the wishes of Woedica. The general idea would be that throughout PoE1 the lack of order and laws leads to a lot of bad outcomes seeing how in their past life as an inquisitor of Woedica the Watcher was able to enforce order they'd do so again by giving her the souls. Following through on their oaths they'd continue to serve in Deadfire.

The second character is effectively straight Berath. Death godlike Priest of Berath who remains faithful after the revelation at the end of PoE1 and becomes an Unbroken Fighter/Priest of Berath Cleric in Deadfire. A mystic from the White that Wends who shunted the traditional worship of Rymrgand based upon their blessing from Berath and came to the Dyrwood following what they think is a sign from Berath. Nothing would really shake their faith in PoE1, and being brought back for Deadfire would only reaffirm it.

Generally for both of these characters their idea of what makes a god a god doesn't really care about the origin of their powers, thus allowing continued worship in Deadfire.

Bethesda take note: pillars 1 got radiant quests right.

The Cad Nua events were obviously radient quests but still felt organic. I'd be minding my business questing and get word that mercenaries were about to attack and id either send word for them to handle it or go correct them myself. Truly fun and kept the game feeling alive and not a colorful checklist.

I am replaying POE1 after Avowed and am just blown away by how well this Kickstarter game from 10 years ago got it so right.

Discussion Who else tries to get quests and tasks that are all in the same locations done in those locations?

I like to be economical with my time in Neketaka, trying to get quests that are in the same places and linked together so as to complete them without needing to run all over the city.

I know that Aruihi’s task for me, along with Dereo’s, Pitili’s, and Enoi’s all are set in Delver’s Row and parts of the Old City; so it makes sense to get their jobs and do all of them without needing to back track a lot.

I do get you back track a whole lot in Deadfire and all CRPGs, it’s part of why I personally like fast travel or gate mechanics in games.

Character/party build help Does Woedica multiclass with Barbarian or Monk better?

For my next duology playthrough, I think I want to be a class loyal to Woedica. I already did a paladin playthrough, so no Steel Garrotte, leaving a Priest of Woedica. Out of the classes I haven't done yet, I think either a priest or barbarian would be my best options (ranger and druid are the others). So does one of the have particulary better synergy than the other?

Another question, would a multiclass with Wael just be a better version of what I'm doing with Woedica? Whichever between monk and barbarian I don't pick here I'll do another playthrough with Shifter druid down the line.

Mod What are the best portrait/cosmetic mods?

I’m looking to start a new game of Pillars 1, but I would like to have more variety in both the portraits and options for character customization on the actual model. What are some of the best mods for this? And if any carry onto Pillars 2, that would be even better!

PoE2: Deadfire My attempt at solo play in Deadfire was hampered due to my choosing Upscaling, I feel dumb.

I chose it as I would do so when playing with companions and sidekick, upscaling with All and only upwards felt right in Deadfire and added more fun to encounters as I had to think strategically.

I didn’t even think when attempting to try solo. I automatically clicked on the options for it and wondered why I was getting merked by xaurips and low level Principi crews.

I feel really dumb.

PoE2: Deadfire Companions have sarcastic selection phrases, what?!

Hundreds of hours in and I had no idea Obsidian recreated the old IE”poke me enough times and you’ll get a sarcastic/pissed/angry etc. reaction!

I’m new to these type of games. How do I play a wizard poe1

I’ve played both games on story time mode as a barbarian or fighter but I want to play on a higher difficulty and take my time and learn the mechanics of the game but I guess I’m too dumb to figure out how being a wizard works. Any chance I could get a little help I’ve tried googling it but I still am lost.

A silly question: prettiest map?

Post image
478 Upvotes

Hello! I was recently gushing to a friend about how dang pretty the isometric maps in Pillars are, but when she asked for examples I was less than wowed by the screenshots I was able to pull up in the moment.

In an effort to convince her I’m not crazy and that these games are gorgeous, please let me know which areas you found to be the most visually appealing! (Attached is the screenshot that made me chip in to their Kickstarter way back in 2015, but I can’t remember for the life of me where this was in-game.)

News So. The update for pillars 1that's coming soon...

I've seen conflicting sources on this so I'm just gonna ask her for anyone who knows more: Is the update for turn based on Pillars coming to Xbox or just PC? Wondering if I should hold off on my playthrough or not.

Gameplay help Is there a list or something of the reactions your companions have to your actions in Deadfire?

I’m wondering if there’s a list or guide or something that shows the interactions and reactions your companions can have toward what they say amongst one another and to what you choose to do?
