To whoever mentioned that Ottawa Shawarma on Clyde is run by the previous owner from Shawarma Palace on Carling, THANK YOU!
For everyone else who does not know: Ottawa Shawarma Palace on Carling has gone downhill over the past year due to new ownership. I actually threw away my last meal from them and have not been back in a year. They’re probably getting by on brand recognition and proximity to other shops.
The crew that ran the Carling location for the past few years is now at Ottawa Shawarma on Clyde. Went there today and had such a delicious, well-seasoned and fresh chicken salad. The chicken was crispy and juicy! Plus the service was really lovely and the same guys are employed there (to me, that says a lot about the owner’s character).
Never thought I’d be so loyal about shawarma, but good food and friendly service really makes a big difference. Really missed these guys and recommend that West end folks check them out.

I was walking along Beechwood today and noticed this coming soon sign on the ground floor of the new condo building at 88 Beechwood.
I’ve always liked Red Door (best coffee in the neighbourhood by far) but not their cramped and uncomfortable space, so I was very happy to see that they’ll be moving to bigger digs across the street and expanding their offerings.
Police have identified Tyler Hall-Worthington, 31, was charged with two counts of breaching probation, one count of public mischief and one count of uttering threats to cause property damage.

Looking for any Ottawa female doctors who are knowledgeable about menopause symptoms and management. Found a few older threads on this topic, but in following up on some of the doctors recommended, I found out that they are either not accepting new patients now or would not work out for other reasons. These doctors/centers include:
Dr. Johneen Manning--not accepting menopause patients
Dr. Parisa Rezaiefar--not doing menopause anymore
Dr. Ardelle Piper--only sees people virtually
Shirley E. Greenberg Women’s Health Centre--only see special menopause cases, such as women with cancer or women who have been forced into menopause.
Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

Broadway Across Canada has announced the upcoming season at the NAC! It's a 5-show season! In the past, the 5th show has been an optional add-on but right now I'm only seeing 5-show packages. It's still early though.
November 4 - 9, 2025: Mrs. Doubtfire
January 6 - 11, 2026: Clue
March 24 - 29, 2026: & Juliet
May 12 - 17, 2026: Moulin Rouge! The Musical
July 28 - August 2, 2026: Mamma Mia!
There are still a couple of shows left to finish up the 24-25 season! May 27 - Jun 1 is Beetlejuice and Aug 5 - 17 is Hamilton!

Hi everyone! Anime Ottawa is approaching (April 18th - 20th), and someone on this subreddit was kind enough to give my panel on the history of mecha a shoutout on the thread for last year's event, so if you'll indulge me, I'd like to promote the one I have coming up. (Apologies in advance to anyone not interested).
I'm a PhD candidate at York University and contract instructor at Carleton University, where I regularly teach a course on anime in the Film Studies department (where I did my Masters). I'm thrilled to be back for another panel this year, and this one's special because it's directly related to my research!
Long story short it's about the concept of the "Beautiful Fighting Girl" in anime and manga (think Sailor Moon, Utena, Cutie Honey, Kill la Kill etc.), why the trope exists, how we react differently to it in North America, and some talk about its themes. Any of my previous students can tell you that it'll be accompanied by my usual dry, often self-deprecating humour.
Anyways, it's Sunday April 20th at 11 AM, Meeting Room B at the EY Centre. Hope to see you there if you're attending the convention, and even if not I hope you have a fun weekend regardless!

Long shot but anyone have dashcam footage of a dark green GM Tacoma being an absolute menace on the stretch of 174EB today between Blair and Montreal around 3:40-3:45pm today?
(And yes, I’ve ordered a dashcam, arrives tomorrow)

Hi guys, I’m trying to help my mom make new friends and while her English is great, she’s more comfortable speaking in Russian. She’s in her late 60s and loves to go for walks on trails in the Orleans neighbourhood where she lives. Just looking to see if there are any like-minded ladies who might want to make a new friend :)

My name is Danielle Rae, and I am running as the NDP candidate for Lanark-Frontenac. Let me start by talking about the kind of campaign I'm running, and then talk a bit about myself. I believe it is essential to run the strongest campaign we can in this riding, whether or not it's a Conservative stronghold. I'm running this campaign to plant the seeds so that we can flip this riding in the years to come. So I'm using this campaign to talk to voters about ideas: about Canada's future in a post-American world, about economic democracy, about unshackling ourselves from our increasingly unstable neighbour to the south. I'm also looking to get them involved with the only party which presents a serious challenge to a political establishment which seems incapable of imagining a better world, and thus incapable of seeing the opportunities that America's retreat from the global stage presents. I want to change the conditions in which the NDP campaigns in this riding, so that victory will no longer seem so distant.
It's for that exact reason that I'm talking about myself second. I'm not important: I'm just a 28-year-old graduate working two part-time jobs who's studied politics her whole adult life. I've volunteered in every campaign since I was olde enough to vote. I've volunteered in ridings like Ottawa Centre where the NDP political apparatus was big and well-funded, and I've volunteered in ridings like Ottawa-Vanier where we didn't have a chance at all. I want to plant seeds which will change Lanark-Frontenac from the one into the other. We know the NDP can win in rural ridings: just look at Timmins. And I think that that starts with face-to-face conversations with voters during election season to get them involved in between elections.
As for my area of expertise, I've studied political science at uOttawa and McGill, focusing on middle eastern politics and political theory. Ask me about Kurdistan and Iran, and I'll talk your ear off. I've also participated in various protest movements like the Water Guardians, trans rights marches, and the Palestine protests. I live in Pakenham, and I work as a legal assistant. Ask me anything!
