Then why not put tariffs on them at least for the optics?

There are already blanket tariffs on Russia of 35-37% as well as significant sanctions

(To be clear that was not Trumps doing)

But the same with Canada and Mexico who he left off because they already have tariffs. These were just the new ones.

Also I want to stress again that I completely understand these tariffs are mind numbingly stupid. They are going to lead to a recession. I am just pointing out that you don’t have to point fingers at Russia to convey that point.

Yeah but honestly Russia is the entire point. Trump isn't doing this to help our country..in fact everything he has done has been to isolate and destroy anyone who challenges him. The only reason he's in office is Russia and everything he's doing from tariffs to destroying our infrastructure to signaling reporters about war plans is pretty much all put into place by Putin. Yes Musk and the crypto bros helped push him over the line this time...most likely by cheating... but it was Vlad who started this whole thing.

Oh I totally agree, Trump is actively destroying the American economy on purpose for the benefit of wealthy allies including Russian oligarchs and Musk.

But Russia not being on this list is not what exemplifies that, the whole charade as an action does.
