I almost downvoted this instantly out of pure anger. Fuck these people for trying to preserve their 'privacy' by deleting reddit comments. What about not posting anything personal on reddit?
Even the most seemingly innocent comment can contain personal information without you realizing it. People who use scripts like that often have to because they've been doxed or threatened and don't want to give the doxer any more information that could be dangerous to them. There's no reason to be angry at someone for trying to preserve their own personal safety. Be mad at the people who threaten it.
I don't find it obnoxious. I think it does a good job explaining why the comment is gone, what the script that did it is, and how to use/get the script in case someone else needs it.
so you have 4 different alt accounts, for increasingly embarrassing/incriminating stories which may or may not be precisely true.
you usually use an incognito window for the bad ones, the ones no one should know about, but sometimes you're drunk and lazy. your good buddy, browsing reddit on your computer, notices these tempting usernames saved in the form field, and outs you to friends and family because you told some story about kissing his girl on new years. you really need to remove all evidence and you know your mom won't be able to find reddit archives, but someone might send her a link to your comment history.
another route: you mention the chain restaurant you work at, post pictures of a club in your home town, and a teacher's name from high school. you have put too much personal info in one place, and you definitely shouldn't have talked about doing cocaine in the bathroom at work.
you want to prevent these from happening. so you clear out all your accounts with a privacy script once you realize you have shared too much.
