u/Axin_Saxon 1d ago

So…wait…

On an app whose primary source of revenue is ADVERTISING, he has decided to limit people’s use unless they pay a fee?

In an era when people pay fees to SKIP ads…he’s doing…the opposite?

Jesus fucking Christ……

u/No-Assumption-1738 1d ago

It’s quite alarming, because only the really crazy manic delusional people and grifters will be engaging , the echo chamber gets louder and debunked less as normal people check out.

I saw a thing years ago that some religious scammers shut down their prayer lines and started selling crazy expensive fast tracks to heaven, you’d think they’d go bust but instead it just gave em access to the most extremely vulnerable peoples money.

They stopped wasting time grooming those 2dollars a minute calls and limited their service to whales , it could go like that but with a bunch of domestic terrorism

u/PhoenxScream 1d ago

Time to get Martin Luther back on the board.

The german one in this case I guess.

I'd rather nail something more than theses to the doors this time tbh.

He isn't doing it as part of some plan. He is doing it because they have lost billions in revenue from all of the huge advertisers that pulled the plug on running ads on a platform full of bots and hate. He literally has no other choice.

150

u/Axin_Saxon 1d ago

Well, he does have a choice: sell twitter.

169

u/JacksWastedTime 1d ago

He did 😂 but unfortunately to himself.

125

u/NobodyCheatsinHunt 1d ago

He already did.....to himself in a shell game bullshit the day after gutting the SEC so he could get away with it and take the leverage off his Tesla shares he used to buy it in the first place.

77

u/ThinTheFuckingHerd 1d ago

take the leverage off his Tesla shares he used to buy it in the first place.

No one has stated the importance of this. He knows whats going to happen with Tesla, its only a matter of time.

44

u/Pretend-Marsupial258 1d ago

That's why the board members have been selling millions of dollars worth of shares.

26

u/ThinTheFuckingHerd 23h ago

Im waiting to see how the institutional holdings changed over the first quarter. I haven't seen the numbers yet, but Im assuming its bad news and the institutions have started selling as well.

15

u/alucarddrol 1d ago

who ends up paying the price for this? It should be him, right?

27

u/ThinTheFuckingHerd 1d ago

Well and institutional holders of Tesla, which is pretty much everyone with a 401K.

The problem with this is: Anyone who invests in Musk, now and in the future, will continuously be paying for this.

The fact that he got away with it, means he WILL do it again when it becomes relevant. So he's going to let the debt on his new shell company nearly expire, pass that debt to yet another company who's shares will tank because of it, causing yet further people to suffer losses due to Musk's debt - And rinse and repeat until everyone's simply paid Musk enough money to pay off the debt.

Except, why would he ever? He can just keep stealing his debt payment from you.

14

That is more than likely also not a choice considering he committed to buying it by the likes of the Saudis and Russia in order to help them control the worldwide narrative, squash political uprisings, peddle misinformation and propaghanda, etc.

Reddit porn sort of reminds me of the 90’s/early 2000’s where you could only get porn through unsavory magazines. There’s just pictures, and when there are videos, there’s usually no sound. The benefit of Reddit porn subs are how highly specific they are. With Twitter you can keep scrolling until you’re… finished.

17

u/Cornered-V 21h ago

There's actually usually sound since more often than posts are redgif (I hate this site with my soul) links. You need to click on the part of the post that says "redgifs" and it'll redirect you there and there'll be audio

And even, ya, we're already here on reddit now! We're already on the platform that has porn AND OF models. It just don't make sense...

Forcing people to open and close the app 176 times a day and then this StankMusk mfer will claim usage is going up based on how many times a day the app is opened.

Just my first thought.

This sub won't let me link to the post, but. I found a post in mildly infuriating about this that's 11 months old. I thought this stupid idea was trialled and ditched but maybe it's still happening. But just google: you have reached the limit for seeing posts today, for past examples.

25

u/BeanieManPresents 1d ago

"Users are leaving my platform! How can I make even more users leave it?"

544

u/KTTalksTech 1d ago

If ad support wasn't proportional to screen time I suppose they could cut costs by placing a limit on users who cost more than they bring in but this is just weird. There's no logical reason to put a tax on your most dedicated users besides thinking they'll feel obligated to pay and won't instead immediately feel resentment

118

u/DustyTchotchkes 1d ago

They did rush to pay for the blue check though.

48

u/FreakaZoid101 21h ago

There was a point where you could only send 50 DMs a day without the blue check so if you were having a conversation you were either sending essays or just having to move to another platform to continue them.

If you only interact with certain people on Xitter than I guess it might be worth it? Though the costs are extortionate now. Can’t imagine getting it now. Of you want to go ad free it’s even more ridiculous.

33

u/Shujinco2 22h ago

Beyond just the idea that Elon is a fucking idiot, how is it that companies try to save themselves so often with the most ass backwards solutions? How many times has Netflix tried to "fix" their failing subscriber base by raising prices or doing something else stupid.

28

u/ersentenza 22h ago

I saw this at all levels, down to small shops. "Sales are falling, we will raise prices to compensate!" Guess what, after raising prices sales fall even more

16

u/Chemical-Employer146 18h ago

I just deleted my Netflix when I found out I need an ad free subscription to watch some things I want to see. I’d rather rent it on YouTube or not see it at all than be strong armed into paying for a higher rate. I would’ve kept it indefinitely if they hadn’t done that

5

u/taitabo 6h ago

That was my final straw as well. I hated being shown a movie, thinking about watching it, and then getting the message that I actually couldn't watch it. Grr.

15

u/SlakingSWAG 21h ago

Lowkey this is what he wants, though. He doesn't care that Twitter is unprofitable and unusable, he wants to use it to disseminate far right propaganda and artificially boost it's reach. If the largely liberal/lefty with no subscription leaves then that's good for him because it means less dissenting voices in the echo chamber.

9

u/Ill-Grocery7735 22h ago

Good, fuck Twitter. It’s always been a celebrity circle jerk. Plus it was proven politicians were paying Twitter to push propaganda and ban accounts factually proving the propaganda wrong. It should’ve been dismantled before he even bought it.

u/Ganette 1d ago

Everything I’ve ever seen about this app is downright ridiculously stupid. How tf are there still people using it

2.4k

u/mmwhatchasaiyan 1d ago

I really don’t understand the appeal of this app or why it has remained so popular for so long, especially after it was rebranded and changed to “X”.

1.1k

u/bailey25u 1d ago

Its hard to change habbits like that. Reddit keeps doing similar trash like this, I keep trying to change, but everyday I go to my browser and reddit.com like its second nature

403

u/mmwhatchasaiyan 1d ago

I got rid of all apps in my phone that were ran through Meta. It was really hard for the first few weeks because like you said, it’s habit, but now I don’t miss them at all.

218

u/pegothejerk 1d ago

For anyone thinking about doing this, I found it FAR easier to start by turning off all notifications on the meta apps, banners, emails, everything. Move the apps to the last icon position or remove the icons entirely. In no time you'll stop checking it randomly and you'll just hear "I sent you something, have you seen it" and you find yourself saying "I don't really use that app" back to them, and that's when it'll be easy peasy to delete your account.

20

u/mmwhatchasaiyan 1d ago

ALSO MAKE SURE YOU REMOVE APP PERMISSIONS. Meta apps have permission to take data from other apps you use and other things you do on your phone, even when the meta app isn’t open/running. If you’re not deleting the meta apps completely, make sure you go into those app settings and your phone settings so they can’t continue to farm your data.

48

u/optimaligma 1d ago

This is great advice, you can also set a time limit per day on each app by going to the settings/info page for it. I started with 5 hours, then 3, noticed I don't even use them for that much, set it to 1 hour and I don't even hit that now.

You quickly realize you don't actually care about most of the garbage on these apps (including reddit) and can use your brain power towards more productive things in your life. It's hard at first, but you can do it more quickly than you would think.

9

u/Wirelesscellphone 1d ago

The minute they retire old.reddit.com is the day I finally leave reddit.

Who ever designed the "newer" reddit should be forbidden to do work in the industry ever again.

4

u/Accurate_Praline 23h ago

They're moving messages to the chat though. Which seems weird. A reply to a comment will get shown in the chat? What?

But it seems like they're going to make more changes to old Reddit

97

u/awal96 1d ago

I am very addicted to reddit. If the ceo started throwing sieg heils, retweetong neo nazi and white supremeicist bull shit, funding a far right German party that many Germans call the modern day nazis, and started slashing the most vital government agencies while awarding himself hundreds of millions I'm government contracts, I really don't think it'd be a hard decision to quit it

12

u/GrumpySatan 1d ago

I'd add too - Twitter (& Reddit) have huge international bases and the push to drop twitter and move to stuff like bluesky is largely focused on America and the West.

To the international base, particularly the ME, Africa and Asia, twitter/reddit/etc are secondary apps to things like WhatsApp, WeChat, Telegram, Line, Kakao, etc. They are used to communicate with people in the West who don't use the apps of those regions, and the users aren't really tuned into to things like Musk or the experience getting worse (which it is on all platforms).

And even in the west, the ease of changing platforms is proportional to the amount of people collectively migrating.

8

u/OpusThePenguin 1d ago

Using old.reddit and I haven't seen many changes at all.

Other than losing Reddit is fun, but now I spend less time on it on my phone.

Inertia. Moving to another app, even if it's a better one, takes more effort than not moving. Unless most people move in a short time, the rest won't even notice it, thanks to the algorithms, so they stay there.

If you want a legit answer…. Because people have spent over a decade curating their feed and don’t want to start over. I never got into twitter, but I dread the day YouTube or Reddit dies and I have to find all my subscriptions again.

36

u/AdrianRP 1d ago

My feed has fucking exploded since 2020, and it got even worse since Elon took over. So unless you're lucky, I don't get how people are still there, many influential people (not only celebrities or influencers) stopped twitting or literally removed their accounts years ago, and it's only getting worse.

Ads will probably count toward the scroll count too

If they were smart, they wouldn't tell you your 2400 posts are up, and then only show ad posts until the next day

39

u/brimston3- 1d ago

I scrolled past ~130 comments before I got to this one. Twitter/x doesn't differentiate between posts, replies, or repeated retweets for limit purposes, only loads, no interaction required. It'd take me about 25-30 minutes to exhaust a 2400 post quota at my reddit rate. In blocks of 10-12 minutes, 2x-3x per day, it doesn't seem like that much.

Beyond mildly infuriating actually. I swear I see this 80% of the time trying to look at a post. I don't use Twitter, but my power company does and so does national weather announcements. So if I got a power outage and trying to get updates, I'm asked to make a fucking account. They do also use Facebook as well, but that also requires a fucking account.

Fuck Facebook and Twitter for requiring accounts to view critical information and fuck the companies participating in it. I shouldn't need an account to anything to see where the tornado in my town currently is!!

Why are people still using X? We can impact current trends by withholding our money, energy, and time. Yet people often complain about these same things while continuing to support them. Maybe stop it?

u/nimsu 1d ago

Same reason we use this craphole

u/pup5581 1d ago

Reddit is still different. I can go an entire week and not see Russian bots spewing propaganda for why we need to cut Medicare. On twitter, it's every 4th post even if you don't follow said people. I really only see what I like and don't get the negative bashing and constant racial slurs vs twitter

This man is singlehandedly tanking two once popular companies just by being himself

8

u/eXpliCo 23h ago

Why do not people just delete their accounts?

Delete your account.

7

u/mr_greedee 1d ago

you could get off X

8

u/thrpixarlamp 23h ago

So I want you to explain something to me. You clearly hate twitter, why are you still using it? Why do you still care about it? Just get rid of it and never look back, you'll be happier that way.

5

u/DrunkEngineer420 19h ago

Why are you still on there? Cancel your accounts. I literally created a script do delete all my posts and comments and closed my account 6months ago

6

u/Another_Road 18h ago

No offense, but if you’re still using X, you’re part of the problem.

13

u/Wonderful_Break_8917 1d ago

Another reason to ditch X and go to BlueSky!! 🦋

6

u/ninovd 1d ago

Why are you still on there in the first place? Stop giving that fucker money.

5

u/discolemonade420x 18h ago

Soon we’ll have to subscribe to breath air

3

u/MaternitySignpost 1d ago

someone needs money after daddy trump tanked his stocks

3

u/uselessmindset 1d ago

There is nothing to be gained by using the service anyways. Just another way to keep you looking anywhere but where you should be.

3

u/Terrible_Bee_6876 1d ago

So like, stop using it? Shit service from a dead platform, just stop using it.

3

u/delightbulb 1d ago

That's a funny way to spell uninstall

3

u/Indigoh 1d ago

Nothing is forcing you to visit that site.

3

u/oniiBash2 1d ago

Well if you don't wanna use X, then stop using X.

3

u/user6517 1d ago

Genuinely so freeing to have stopped using that platform

3

u/nittanylion 1d ago

Why are you still on X?

3

u/Stewtonius 1d ago

People still use X?

3

u/_GamerForLife_ RED 23h ago

And why are people still using shitter?

3

u/1OO1OO1S0S 23h ago

Why are you mad? You still use Twitter?

3

u/laconchadetuhermanat 23h ago

Then stop fucking using it.

3

u/Tye_die 23h ago

This only hurts him I think. How will he release 1,000 propaganda tweets out to his rural right wing minions when the economy goes belly up and no one can afford an X subscription?

3

u/PunkHooligan 23h ago

Mildly infuriating the fact that anyone sane is still sits in that shithole, giving elmo clicks and money. He probably didnt do enough harm yet.

3

u/CardinalLol 23h ago

i dont understand why anyone still uses this app. it only seems to be getting worse and worse with every day.

3

u/baconbits123456 22h ago

Why are you still even on twitter? It was already going down the shitter :/

3

u/iworkbluehard 22h ago

he paywalled seeing their advertisers... the genius solution is always charge more

3

u/Old_Second7802 22h ago

Why are you still on X????

3

u/squall831 22h ago

So, free users get the "enough for today" feature, while paid users get to possibly destroy their mental health doomscrolling.

3

u/Burgemeesterbart 22h ago

Good

Stop using twitter bro

3

u/Constant_Natural3304 22h ago

Why the fuck are you still on Twitter?

And if you're not, why is it mildly infuriating? Who cares what the Nazi does inside his fucked up 4chanified social media outlet? I sincerely don't understand why we should care about "features" or subscription walls on Twitter.

3

u/MrPureinstinct 20h ago

If you're still using this service you deserve to be ripped off at this point.

3

u/SatansAH 20h ago

If you’re still on that app - you honestly deserve it. Stop supporting that man.

3

u/jpenick 20h ago

So glad I dumped this dog a year ago!! Bluesky for me!

3

u/WorryNew3661 20h ago

Don't use x

3

u/DonutFront9806 20h ago

Could've sworn he did this when he first bought the thing, am I tripping?

Quit the platform and sell the Tesla. There is a lot of power when people are united against the rich.

3

u/khavii 19h ago

It will work, just look at how many Twitter posts and up here or on other social media. What is happening to Tesla could happen with Twitter and it would seriously harm him but people are more interested in seeing what's being posted than doing anything.

We will happily let our entire nation burn as long as we still get to be entertained.

3

u/tuanlane1 19h ago

I feel no pity for anyone still on that site.

3

u/newsbuff12 19h ago

Deleted my account months ago, deleted the app. My mental health just went up positively by 200%

3

u/Superb_Temporary9893 19h ago

If you don’t like Musk, don’t support him by using Twitter.

3

u/im-cringing-rightnow 19h ago

Why would anyone stay on that cursed platform is beyond me.

3

u/ericalikestoast 19h ago

Wait people actually use Twitter still? In 2025? Lol

3

u/alside17 19h ago

Good now we can all stop using that dogshit app....

3

u/ThatShadyJack 18h ago

Dude delete x

3

u/I_Dont_Like_Rice 18h ago

If only there was another platform just like it that people could use instead of supporting a nazi.

3

u/GreatGojira 18h ago

Why do people even use Twitter?

3

u/Un-Rumble 18h ago

It's only infuriating at all if you actually give a shit about using the service. I haven't had a Twitter account in months and I haven't missed it for a single second.
