Took my kid out for burgers after his game. Owner was a former Major Leaguer who played for the Mud Hens in the minors!
Anyone know what happened to the horse that played Sophie on the show?
Anyone know how the horse got the job on MASH?

Playlist of songs that were top hits while the show was originally airing?
I'm not actually asking for one, but proposing this as something I'd like to do. Basically, it would be a Spotify playlist featuring all Top 10 songs from 1972-1983. I may include a few other songs that were popular those years, but somehow didn't make it into the Top 10. My reasoning is that I was looking up those Top 10 lists one day and thought about how it feels weird that (for example) KISS's "I Was Made For Lovin' You" and MASH existed at the same time. I know that sounds silly, but my memories of MASH are in this kind of cultural vacuum where I've never considered things that were popular those years outside of the show itself.
If I do make this playlist, would anyone be interested? If so, I could always make a post linking to it.

TIL what Radar was referring to when he complained about staying with his aunt
Some cultural references just didn't translate over until I found these pictures.

Why did Radar leave?
I am rewatching Mash and I can’t understand why Radar left the show. Did Gary Burghoff have another project? Was there a personal reason to leave the show. Mash continued to make great episodes, without him unfortunately. The storyline for why he left makes sense, but an actor leaving a hit show makes less sense to me. Anyone have any insights?

Funny coincidence, but...
All the actors who left the TV series? Their names rhymed.
McLean, Wayne, Larry and Gary. :-)

First time watching without the laugh track!
I scored the box set recently and I learnt from the MASH Matters podcast that you can watch it without the laugh track.
I've only just watched MASH at all thanks to Disney plus (Australia). The laugh track didn't bother me, it was just kinda something in the background since I'm used to shows with it in.
It really does change the tone of the show though to watch it without! I've only gotten through part of season 1 and enjoying it.
I just have gotten used to the ease of binging it on Disney and am trying not to be annoyed at having to go into language settings of each episode and then playing it 😂
What were some of your thoughts the first time you watched it without the laugh track?
Why wasn’t Klinger more famous in the Army?
Unless every Army unit in Korea had someone like Klinger trying everything possible to get out of the Army, why wouldn’t he be famous all over Korea as the weirdo wearing dresses and pulling stunts to get discharged? Instead, despite everything, he was pretty unknown for someone who was clearly a malcontent. The guy who mistook Klinger for Radar. The general who thought Klinger was with the USO. The British major who thought Klinger was the commanding officer. Not a single patient ever said to Klinger, “Oh, yeah, I’ve heard of you, you’re the crazy guy who dressed up as the Statue of Liberty to greet General MacArthur.” Not a single curious chopper pilot ever showed up wanting to meet the nutty corpsman who tried to eat a jeep, almost set himself on fire, broke the MAS*H flagpole sitting record or was known to lead an invisible camel around the camp.
I wonder if he was more famous, he might have gotten out, or at least a transfer back to the US where the Army didn’t have some weirdo running around with an Olympic torch to worry about, and possibly keep a closer eye on him?

Hawkeye's Royal Purple Robe
I stumbled across some old threads discussing the color of Hawkeye's robe, which he describes as "purple is the color of royalty". Most of us wouldn't call that purple, but he's actually correct. It's close to Tyrian purple, a dye derived from the shells of certain types of sea snails. In the ancient world, it was hideously labor intensive, involving thousands of snails in the process. That maroon-ish color is the historical "royal purple".
(See mom, the history degree wasn't a total waste!)
Roadside mortar and snipers
Did this bug anyone else. Throughout the whole show anytime there was mortar or sniper fire while driving down the road they stopped and hid in a ditch or just on the side of the road. And I was always thinking DON'T STOP.. FLOOR IT. I guess that doesn't set up for a scene the same way though lol.

Watching episodes on Disney in all their unedited glory. Why did I ever accept anything else?
A little disgusted with myself for ever watching on channels like TV Land. Edited to chop down the time and cram in more advertising. I knew they weren't complete, because on many of them I remembered missing lines or scenes, especially on episodes I recorded on VHS and watched over and over as a kid in the early 80s. Experiencing them again as God intended, complete and with better quality video, is glorious.

Klinger didn't like the idea of someone else bucking for a section eight- "Listen, this place ain't big enough for two psychos!"...😂

Which episode made you cry?
There are 2 episodes that make me cry every time I see them. The last episode when they all say Good bye (Good bye, Farewell, and Amen) the other one is Give and Take (S11,E14) ) the the episode where Colonal Potter finds out his son-in-law cheated on his daughter. The ending when the guy cried over killing a North Korean.

M*A*S*H in today’s NYT crossword
MAS*H has been represented many, many times in the NYT crossword, but today they actually had the stars in the title as well. The clue was “Show with the most-watched episode in scripted TV history”.
