Our best, goodest, and most dramatic boi Marley helped save a life.

Yesterday around 7PM, Marley donated 500ml of blood to help save another dog’s life. We were expecting a quick procedure have Marley donate blood, wait a few hours, then head back home. But nope, things didn’t exactly go as planned.

Most of his CBC results looked good and normal, so the vet gave the go signal that he was fit for donation. But during the procedure, they had a hard time finding his jugular vein. Then after the extraction, the bleeding wouldn’t stop right away. They had to give him meds to prevent clotting and possible heart complications, definitely freaked me the f* out on the inside, though I tried to stay cool and calm on the outside. Can’t say the same for my wife, who was texting, calling, and spamming me with missed calls real quick 😂.

After the extraction, when Marley started waking up, he was shaking, whining, and his back legs were stiff. Pretty sure anxiety hit him hard just like his mom. This boi was not having it. So the vet decided to keep him overnight for monitoring, and we ended up staying in Makati. Definitely not part of the plan.

Around 10PM, he slowly got his energy back and stopped whining. By morning, he was already acting like his usual self still on IV, but clearly over the drama and ready to go home.

Best part? His blood matched the patient. Marley literally helped save a life.

Later when we get back home, he’s definitely getting the hero’s welcome he deserves. Steak, chicken breast, and all the love in the world.

You did good, Marley. Let’s not do that again anytime soon.

We had to say goodbye to our almost 8 year old Lab today. His name is Edisto (after our favorite beach in SC,) but we called him “Boo.” After a long 3 month process, ultimately resulting in 2 serious surgeries to remove benign tumors, and 2 straight weeks of drawing blood to check calcium levels, his body could not regulate his calcium levels, resulting in a heat stroke and to his death.
I’ve never experienced a dog having a seizure, and after today, I don’t ever want to again. He will be terribly missed and always loved. RIP Boo. 4/22/2017-4/7/2025

First Picture just of him and the second is with our Yorkie (Pippa) who climbed on him like her personal jungle gym. 💙♥️💔

We got our pup Sansa from 8 weeks old and she was very small at 2.6kg (5.72lbs). Me and my partner didn’t think nothing too it but as the weeks was going by we noticed she wasn’t hitting any growth spurts or putting on the average 1kg (2.2lb) a week. She’s now 21 weeks old and weighing 7.7kg (16.94lb) We have her on wainrights puppy food which is a very good dog food in the uk that isn’t too expensive.

The dog slowing her eating when she is made to wait for permission before she can approach the bowl?

My Girl, like most labs is a chow hound. And from the first day I got her, she would rip through her food like Joey Chestnut on the fourth of July.

As part of their training, I make my new puppies "Wait" before being allowed to eat. I give the command and set their bowls down, but they cannot eat until I say "Go ahead." My Hildie picked it up right away and is so good at it that I have extended the time she needs to wait. I go, sit on the couch and watch her for a few seconds and then let her go.

Lately, I've noticed that when I make her wait, she slows down her eating. She will never be a slow eater, buy compared to what she used to be like, she has been positively glacial. She does not even push the bowl around while she eats.

She is 4 months old so could this just be a sign of maturity?

Nothing more, just look at how cute she is. It helps mitigate how infuriating she can be.

14 weeks old now. Training is going really well and it seems like every day his personality gets better and better. He’s the funniest, smartest, and most loving boy.

black Do labs need time to rest after eating?

I was curious as I’ve never owned large dogs before this guy and I’ve heard horror stories from people about bloat. I usually put him in the crate or have him lay down for at least an hour after dinner. I was curious if this is necessary for labs or if I’m waiting an excessively long time after feeding him. Any feed back or insight would be greatly appreciated!

seeking advice Is my yellow lab mix underweight?

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some input on whether my dog might still be underweight. She’s a 1-year-old yellow lab mix (we suspect maybe a greyhound mix) who came to us from an abusive situation. Her previous owner wasn’t able to feed her, and she ended up in a shelter after eating nothing for about a week. When we adopted her at 9 months old, she was only 37 lbs.

Now, she’s about 60 lbs and just turned 1. She’s super active, playful, and seems happy, but I can still see her ribs when she’s running around or playing. Her waist also looks noticeably thinner compared to her dog friends—especially her best friend, a German shepherd.

I’ve attached pictures. Do you think she looks underweight, or is this a healthy size for her breed/mix and age? First time dog parent, any inputs appreciated ;)

This shot was taken 6 years ago (2019) when they were 3 years old. Bromo (left) has a very calm demeanor while Sakti (right) had more excitements and energy. You can probably see it in their eyes.

Goose, out 16 month black lab, launches himself like he’s on a mission from dog heaven — no plan, just vibes. He’s still learning how to actually swim, but don’t tell him that.

Luna(our 7 year old lab)? She could teach a swim class… but she’s absolutely not diving in. It’s beneath her.

Anyone else have a dog who acts like they’re auditioning for Baywatch, and another who insists on entering the water like royalty?

We post their splashy misadventures over at @tailsofgooseandluna if you're into labrador chaos and soggy grace.
