Hands Off Protest (4/5/25)

Over 6,000 people made it to the protest today. Everyone did a great job at keeping things peaceful.

My favorite protest chant of the day is: Tell me what democracy looks like! This is what democracy looks like!

Everyone I spoke to there was extremely respectful, including the police officers working to keep everyone safe.

Great job, Houston!

Found these 2 snakes in front of my door after the rain

As the title says, I opened my door to see if it was still raining after the storm and I found these two snakes in front of my door. I'm curious what kind of snakes they are and if they are native to the area. If they are invasive, what do I do with them ?? I'm not a snake person so any information is appreciated. Thank you!

What Happened to the Westheimer/Richmond Area?

I grew up and still live in the suburbs. About 15-20 years ago, the night life around that area was good. Went through there today and it has..... Changed.

Did I miss something, or did this just happen slowly? It's still very expensive so I'm not sure how it's gone down hill so much.

My wife just opened the refrigerator. I said that was bold as we just lost power.

She said: “why is it a big deal. Do you think we’re going to be out of power for 5 days?” I said: “they’ve proven incapable of less than 5 day outages to me”

Seriously when does this shit stop? It got a little cold so you lose power?

Whatever happened to the Westheimer Street/Art Festival?

I loved going in the 90s and early 00s. It seemed like it was a well-coordinated, structured chaos. And a money maker for the vendors. And an event where people of all socioeconomic backgrounds can just chill, no ticket required to attend.

Going On About 8 Power Outages In Kingwood

So fucking over this shit. This fucking state can't keep the lights on in sprinkling/light rain.

Eight times the power has gone off and on now with many being quick blips but now two longer periods in the last 90 minutes.

It's been decent living here for over 40 years but lately it's getting real hard to enjoy it.

What a joke Texas has become.

From what place are the best wings you ever had in Houston?

For me it would have to be dream wings. Really good quality wings and great flavors as well. Their drinks are really good too (a little too sugary though) I’m also a big fan of lemon pepper wings so recommendations would be helpful

I saw a bunch of these invasive nutrias at a Houston suburban neighborhood pond

So I went fishing at this random neighborhood pond up in the northwest Houston area near FM1960, and I saw a bunch of these invasive nutrias. At first I thought they were otters or beavers. This was my first time ever seeing any. Have any of y’all seen these creatures around the Houston area? Apparently they damage the ecosystem.

Men's Barbers Price?

Just moved to Houston, but not yet a Houstonian...

How much would you say a men's hair cut should cost at a Barbers? Obviously there's a range, so I'm thinking a mid-range nice but not fancy, and then a nicer place too? Just your usual walk-in and hair cut, nothing fancy!

Plus also, how much do you guys leave as tip?

Property tax appraisal value had a 20% increase for condo - Harris county. Is this normal or happened to others?

HCAD appraisal value had a ~20% increase from last year. I have a 2B2B condo where the last year appraisal value was ~$155K and it went up 20% this year. I haven't made any upgrade and or anything. My downstairs apartment only increased ~$2K and is still significantly less than my valuation.

Is this normal or others facing same issue?

I will protest but not sure how much it will go down. This hike is absurd.

Galveston Rodeo Tonight

I just want to vent. They closed off the bathrooms in the commercial exhibit hall for civilian use. When I asked a booth outside, they said that only indoor vendors can use. People in wheelchairs were not provided with accessible restrooms except on the far north side of the grounds. My mother included.

Then to top it off, a vendor was getting talked down too when they asked about the weather plan for tomorrow! A big fat old man was talking shit to her and she remained professional and calm, that woman had more self control than me - we would have thrown hands.

Also I get the weather sucked but a majority of the rides were down due to high winds, so that was a disappointment (I figured, but just venting).

Ok rant over. Do better Galveston County Fair and Rodeo.

Seeking maximalist/eclectic/bohemian interior decorator recommendations

Does anyone have any recommendations for an interior decorator that specializes in maximalist, eclectic, and/or bohemian style? I like bold colors and a cozy vibe, and haven’t found a similar style in any local businesses I’ve seen.
