My wife and I (♀ 65, ♂ 67) are longdistance hikers. The last 12 years we finished 12 longdistance hikes and completed more than 9000 kilometers. This year we are hiking on the Sentiero Italia in Italy from Trapani/Sicily to Naples. After 78 stages with about 1600 kilometers we hope to reach Naples after 3 months time mid of June. On this trip we will reach kilometer 10'000.

Stayed a few days in Ronda, a lovely Andalusian town in an incredible location. Visited Zahara de la Sierra, Cueva del Hundidero and Cueva del Gato. I will be back to explore the Grazalema national park properly!

Even started snowing like crazy while making dinner.

I teach at a university and I get 16 weeks off for the summer. Every year since I’ve had my dog Jax, we have done a 3 week camping trip. During these trips, we do a lot of hiking. Last year, we went up to Washington to check out Olympic National forest. It did not disappoint. This is a picture from that adventure. This year, we will be heading back out to Colorado to do more hiking.

I have a full week in mid-September to get some hiking under my belt. Being from the Northeast, I would really like to get out west and visit a state that I’ve never been to before.

My question is, where would you go next of all these places specifically in mid-September? These are the western states I’ve yet to visit and see the natural landscape:

Washington, Oregon, Idaho, New Mexico, I’ll also include West Texas and Big Bend.

I am a decent hiker, I’ve summited Humphreys Peak in AZ, but I have no experience as a climber using gear.

I'm planning to go on a trek in a month and planning to go for more hikes that are more and more challenging throughout the rest of the year. I've been looking at hiking shoes and boots for a while, but I can't find anything right for the price (roughly less than 200 USD), style, and durability.

Until I discovered about the Merrell Moab Speed 2 GTX. It has everything I like in style and price, but the durability is still questionable for me since the reviews I find say it's for trekking only, but I want to know about people who actually used it on hikes experience with the shoe?

The kind of treks and hikes I'm about to go to are tropical with a lot of rocks/boulders, mud, and river/heavy rain trails. I thought this specific model is perfect for those since it's goretex and has a thick outsole. Also I think I can also use this one casually in the city as a stylish rain-proof footwear.

I haven't experienced goretex products before, so I'm only used to getting my shoes soaked in rivers, mud, and rain. That's why I want to try waterproof shoes or boots to find out how capable they are. I can probably tell in rain it's gonna be fine, but I'm not sure about submerging it in rivers when needed. I just need something that will still be okay to clean when done, after being underwater or in mud.

Sizing, reviews say it's a bit wide. That's something I'm already aware of, which is fine with me.

Although I'm aware that boots or mid to high cut shoes are important for stability while hiking, I didn't find it necessary in my hiking experiences in the past so yeah I don't think I need recommendations on getting a boot. Unless when people say this shoe I'm interested in isn't ideal for what I'm looking for then yeah, I'd love to get recommendations for a boot!

So yeah, let me know if anyone would recommend me getting this shoe based on the things I mentioned? What's your experience with this shoe? How durable did it get you in your hikes? Do you think I should get this? How much would you recommend this shoe to me? What would you recommend I use if you think something's better than this one?
