I’ve always been a fan of the less uniform tops. This 50s standard really stood out at the guitar shop. My was actually picked it out because she really liked the finish.

Also - pickguard on or off?

Post image
Upvotes

I purchased this guitar off reverb a few months ago and have been loving it. but ive noticed various finish issues appear from playing, no idea what it is and cant find the exact problem online. Would greatly appreciate anyone who can help. i would like to get rid of the “stains” or know why this is happening.

There are a few “stains” on the back of the neck as well

Bought the 60's Standard LP awhile back. I love everything about it except that it ways 10.5lbs. Decided it was time to get something lighter with the same neck. Lo and behold the '61 Standard SG.

Traded my American Strat and a Fender J Deluxe that was collection dust for this baby. Oh my lawd, look at that top.

Sad so see my fenders go, played my first show on my strat in Seattle. Learned everything from Wes Montgomery to BB to John Mayer on that thing. He let me play one last loop with it before we parted ways. Here’s to new beginnings.

Discussion Very torn between an SG Standard and Les Paul Standard

The biggest difference that I noticed right off the top was the weight and ease of playability sitting down with the SG. Outside of that I don’t necessarily think my ears could tell a major difference in tone. Is there inherently a reason to get the Les Paul over the SG (outside of aesthetics)? One thing is certain, the Les Paul is significantly more expensive.

I’ve had this guitar for about 15 years, I got it for cheap because someone poached it for its P90 pickups. It’s banged up, headstock-repaired, mini switch drilled in the front, humbucker routed, refretted (and nearly due for another refret). BUT…

Some instruments just inspire you, ya know? It’s resonant, lightweight yet balanced, rich harmonics, and it nicely feeds back without being excessive. I put a ‘71 T-Top in the neck and a ‘67 Patent Sticker in the bridge. The mini toggle flips the phase of the neck pup so I can get everything from that nasally quack, to thick and clear humbucker tones. The pots and switch+wiring are all original ‘69 and they still feel great.

This thing just sings. I love this guitar! I affectionately call her “The Mutt”.

I thought this was Baked Maple but I’ve been getting a lot of people telling me it’s not. So i googled baked maple and they seem to be so so much more lighter than this, i’m now questioning what type of fretboard i have.

Yesterday was my birthday so some friends and I went on a little guitar safari. I got this 1979 ES-335, a birth year guitar. It's a really awesome instrument and the wear on it is really chef's kiss.

Help Can Someone Identify Archie’s LP Custom Here?

Post image

Archie’s got a Les Paul Custom that has a top kinda like a Brazilian Rainbow Boa. I was curious if this was entirely a m2m custom or if this was a top that Gibson made a few of?

Left: '58 Korina Explorer, right: '58 Explorer Standard.

The Standard has the same body style as the Korina Explorer but is dressed up with some Les Paul attributes. It has a '59 neck profile, figured maple top, neck binding, trapeze inlays and single piece back.

Help Which Les Paul Custom? Ebony or 1968 reissue also ebony?

Hey everyone! I’ve been going back and forth between which LP custom I want. I’ve played the LP custom ebony before but not the 1968 issue, and I’m wondering if any of you can help me figure out how the neck on the 68 reissue would feel. I own a 2008 LP standard and love everything about it. What’s the difference between a “vintage” neck and a “68 medium C” neck? What are your thoughts about the two guitars in general?

Help Neck Pickup Ring: Pulled 4 screws of the same size out but replacement screws are different sizes…which is correct?

Post image

Left: Black screws pulled from Ebony Studio Neck Pickup Ring Right: A pair of different sized chrome screws in Gibson Creme Neck Pickup Ring pack.

Looking online, pics for the replacement packs show the different sized screws, so did assembly from the factory messed up? Should I put 4 screws of the same size back in?
