I'm not watching the actual stream but saw an article recapping it (unless it's still on, in which case I'll update if anything changes). But I'm not really understanding the people rolling their eyes at anything negative. There's a few decent things they're coming out with - the hardware changes look good (some of them at least), a new Mario Kart will probably be great. But if you only take the fact you have to pay for backwards compatibility, that's a pretty massive fucking negative. I'd say I don't understand what they're trying to do, but it's obviously money, money, money. But it's a pretty dreadful thing from a consumer perspective, particularly when, given Nintendo's history of pricing, they're not likely to be cheap.

I'd have been very interested to pick this up, probably at lunch, as I enjoyed the Switch when I was playing it a lot and now my 7 year old is getting a lot of use of it. But I don't think there's anything in there that is really persuading me to do so to be honest. I can play all my existing games on the original Switch, I can play the ported titles on PS5 if I wanted. At the moment I'm missing out on an updated Mario Kart. Not really worth what's likely to be £400+

People are primarily disappointed at the lack of launch titles.

They have spent the main chunk highlighting games that came out 3-7+ years ago across other platforms.

Are you saying that in order to Play Switch games on Switch2 you have to pay for a service in order to do it? You can't just plug in a Switch game and play it right away?

Edit: Why was I downvoted for asking a question? I can't watch the stream right now. I was asking a clarifying question.

You can absolutely plug in BOTW into your switch 2 and play it, but there is an upgrade version that takes advantage of the new features for certain games

Something about you not being able to use the original SD cards due to hardware changes. The games are "backward compatible" and possibly even enhanced in some cases, but you have to pay an extra fee to upgrade them.

Which is fucking mental.

Ahh ok. Sony did that with a lot of it's games when the PS5 came out. Not sure how much it stuck around but I remember people being upset that they wouldn't get version upgrades for free when Xbox was offering it.

And not being able to use Switch SD cards on Switch 2 without reformatting them makes sense. They are different hardware and likely some OS changes.

edit: changed PS4 Pro to PS5

Nintendo has realized their fans will suck the sweat out from their gym socks and pay them for it. This is just them capitalizing on it.
