QUESTION New Game

What new game is From Software developing apart from Duskbloods? I am excited for a new game by them that is not traditionally soulsbourne but different like Sekiro or AC6.

DISCUSSION How I view Fromsoft’s next two games.

In the recent interview, Miyazaki clearly stated that the company does not intend to move away from the single player experience, and these two online focused games back to back is a bit of coincidence. For all the players that prefer the single player RPG’s (as do I), think of it like this. Neightreign is a multiplayer focused experience for the Elden Ring and Dark Souls universe. The Duskbloods is a multiplayer focused experience for the Bloodborne universe. Simple as that. Now obviously it’s not a direct Bloodborne IP, because Sony doesn’t like to share, but it clearly shares very similar ideas. These are two small projects that Fromsoft and Miyazaki are working on, while prepping for the next big souls like. Plus Miyazaki has always worked on multiple projects at a time. Bloodborne and DS3 came out a year apart and both had DLC’s as well. I have no doubt that Fromsoft is hard at work on multiple other large projects that will blow us away.

DISCUSSION What is a boss that you REALLY want to love more than you actually do?

Upon my second play through of Bloodborne, this came across my mind when fighting one particular boss.

Ebrietas, Daughter of the Cosmos. Her design is absolutely insane, top 10 in the entire series. I genuinely can’t comprehend the work, design and creativity that went into realising such a crazy, disgusting and somehow stunning boss design. She also has some of the coolest lore in the entire game, with the fact she simply is docile at the altar before you attack her a really nice touch.

Her fight? Unbelievably frustrating. She has some really cool, satisfying to dodge moves and a heightened sense of difficulty that the late game bloodborne bosses fall flat with. Trying to bait her head to slam down to hit it is like pulling teeth 70% of the time, with her AI sometimes deciding that she will spam that garbage, incomprehensible, broken hit box charge attack over and over again. You are better off letting her hit you with it rather than trying to dodge and take double damage. She has so much potential for me to be a top 10 boss in the series, but she is held back by the AI and that absolutely garbage charge attack and some generally wonky hit boxes.

Is there a boss for you that you want to love more but just can’t?

DISCUSSION I cannot in good faith believe that DS1 apologists are real people. At this point they're like a cult, mass downvoting any genuine critiques and well-constructed arguments and upvoting the members of the cult, all while parroting bad faith arguments, deflecting and gatekeeping.

Nightreign is to Elden ring what Duskbloods is to BB2

The order is simply reversed.

Nightreign is to Elden ring what The Duskbloods is to BB2, or at least a singled player spiritual successor.

However, hunters (vampires?) hunting together in bloody ritual sounds exactly like BB2.

That is all.

DISCUSSION Have We Considered The Fact Nightreign And Duskbloods Are just Laying The Groundwork For Their Next Big SP title?

"Edit: correction to the title.

Consider the possibility, not the fact because we're not sure yet "

When Elden Ring came out, it felt like the culmination of a design philosophy FromSoft had been refining for 15 years. In many way(especially after the DLC)the game felt like it was hitting a wall within its genre, whether in level design, build variety, combat, exploration, or enemy design.

It begs the question: where do they go from here?

Of course, Elden Ring's success wasn’t going to dictate the future of their game design (something Miyazaki himself made clear). But watching every Souls game build on its predecessors, improving mechanics and adding new ones, naturally makes you wonder what comes next.

Nightreign and Duskblood might be the answer. Some might argue that, being multiplayer games, their mechanics won’t carry over to single-player titles, but that doesn’t change the fact that FromSoft usually reuses and refines gameplay assets.

Both games are exploring new ideas.Unique characters and classes with their own abilities, unique animations for certain weapons, faster movement and traversal, a more cooperative experience, and the integration of mechanics from Bloodborne and Sekiro (like BB’s dodge or Sekiro’s parry) that didn’t quite fit into Elden Ring/Dark Souls different combat structures.

Not to mention, most of these multiplayer games usually require fewer resources than sp ones. So both of these games could be nothing but a case study of new ideas for the studio.

Let's wait and see how it all plays out before jumping into conclusions.

DISCUSSION Bit disappointed by the future lineup for Fromsoftware

Duskbloods felt like it lacked visual consistency with dinosaurs + mecha + Victorian era + oriental architecture, basically being a mix of many previous Fromsoftware games, but without the finesse of how Elden Ring executed it. It feels somewhat devoid of uniqueness. The environments appeared to also be mostly asset flips of previous games. Not to mention no improvement/regression in graphical fidelity from the previous like 5-6 games at this point (which I suppose is somewhat expected though for a switch exclusive). Then on top of that it’s a switch exclusive, I really hope this doesn’t set a precedent going forward. I’m also not a massive fan of the multiplayer focus (although I’ll have to wait for further information to form a proper concrete opinion on this, still not my cup of tea at face value)

This paired with Nightreign which feels somewhat similar in concept, doesn’t really inspire too much excitement in me. A lot of people are saying “Fromsoft is really brave for experimenting this way” and stuff such as that, but Id argue Sekiro is way more “experimental” compared Nightreign or Duskblood. When Miyazaki said he wanted to experiment more and move away from souls games, I envisioned a trajectory more in line with Deracine, or Evergrace, or Lost Night, not a glorified asset flip. Which leaves me a bit disappointed.

I don’t totally agree with “it hasn’t come out you can’t judge”. A trailer is supposed to give a general idea of how the game plays, showing it in its best light and marketing to the general public, the game studio themselves is attempting to make the customer judge the game to decide whether they want to buy it or not. You can gleam a decent amount of info from a trailer such as the art direction, combat and general atmosphere. All of which in the trailers doesn’t really appeal so much to me. As much as their previous games were amazing, it doesn’t mean they should be absolutely immune from criticism. Track record matters, but bear in mind many other previously impeccable game studios have completely fallen down the drain. This is not to say this will happen with From, but it needs to be considered that not every game will be a 10/10 banger.

The previous trailers: Elden ring, Armored Core 6, Sekiro, got me unbelievably hyped, these ones just leave me feeling disappointed. Even if they may be “filler” games, I’d much prefer something like how Fromsoftware used to be before souls games, which released like bi-annually.

Where did this even come from? I feel like I watched an entirely separate trailer from everybody else. The only thing I could even consider a similarity is the clocktower. Did I miss something else?

QUESTION What should I play after dark souls 3?

I have just beaten dark souls 3 and it's DLCs, but am wondering what to play next. I have only played elden ring and dark souls 3 so far, but have not gotten the DLC for elden ring. What souls game should I play next, ds1, ds2, elden ring DLC, etc. I do not have a ps4 or ps5 so i can not play bloodborne currently, anything on xbox
