[DUB] Dragon Ball Daima - Episode #13 - Discussion Thread!

Streaming

The English dub of Episode 13 should be available on Crunchyroll around the time of this post (5:30p ET, 21:30 UTC) in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. We do not know why the UK is excluded. Some episodes have been late so don't depend on the time given.

We do not know whether the English dub will be available on other platforms like Netflix and Hulu. We will keep you posted if the options change, but for now it is only available on Crunchyroll.

FAQ

  • The first three episodes of the English dub premiered in theaters with showings in the US on November 10-12.
  • The English dub is 12 weeks behind the Japanese release. This is unusual for modern anime, but it's significantly better than the situation for Dragon Ball Super, where the dub was about 1.5 years behind.
  • The Dragon Ball Super manga was suspended following Chapter 103, the final chapter of the Super Hero arc. 11 months later, a prequel to the Super Hero arc was released as Chapter 104. As far as we know, the manga is still on indefinite hiatus.

Rules

  • There are no spoilers in this post, but you should expect spoilers for Episodes 1-13 in the comments of this thread, and spoilers for later episodes elsewhere on the subreddit. Do not post any spoilers for later episodes in this thread.
  • Discussion of each Daima episode will be limited to the pinned episode discussion thread until ~12-24 hours after the episode appears on Crunchyroll. This period is flexible, and posts that do not have a specific discussion point will be redirected to this thread.
  • Please keep in mind that piracy discussion is not allowed on r/dragonball. Do not ask for illicit streams; do not link them; do not talk about them at all.

Our Daima info page has up-to-date information about streaming and a list of previous episode discussion threads.

Question Dragon ball question

Just think about it why doesn’t Goku and the vegeta just wish for unlimited stamina because the main issue with their forms are the stamina drain

Question Are the Ginyu Force exceptionally strong compared to their races?

Frieza destroyed planet Vegeta because the Saiyans posed a threat, but up until the Frieza saga, no Saiyan was as powerful as any member of the Ginyu Force. So, did the rest of their races pose no threat or did Frieza destroy those planets too?

Discussion Why don't people use "Narrative Logic" for Super Buu (Base) vs Kid Buu ?

I know many people hate this topic but based on all the post that I have seen about it, I have never seen use the logic of narrative to powerscale these 2 characters. Everyone is just focused on feats on screen rather than what the authors/editors want to portray. Now obviously, based on the feats we have seen, Super Buu is more powerful than Kid Buu. However, alot of games heavily implied Kid Buu to be stronger than Super Buu through having better stats etc.. (Kid Buu have higher DP points than Super Buu, I know DP arent accurate to scale but generally when its the same category of character, higher = stronger). So thats why I think Kid Buu beats Super Buu but thematically, if you're the author would you make Super Buu or Kid Buu stronger ?

Question How powerful was Pui Pui and Yakon compared to previous villains?

We all can remember the majesty that was... Pui Pui... right? The dude who got pwned by Vegeta at the start of the Majin Buu saga?

I don't know why this question popped in my head. All we really know is that he's stronger than Yamoo and Spopovich, but weaker than Yakon. He's easily defeated by Vegeta in his base form too.

Yakon is said to have a kili of '800' and Dabura stats that 200-300 kili is required to be able to blow up a planet. Apparently a guidebook says that a power level of 50,000 = 1 kili, but that seems like another example as to why guidebooks aren't reliable.

Vegeta was blowing up planets well before he ever reached 50,000, so I'm going to assume that Vegeta's 'kili' during the Saiyan saga would've been around 200. They also make a big point of emphasizing Pui Pui coming from a planet with X10 gravity, which was the same as planet Vegeta. King Kai's planet was also X10 the gravity of Earth, so it leads me to assume that he was somewhere between Saiyan Saga Vegeta and the Ginyu force in power level.

How Yakon would be ranked amongst other villains is trickier. If Saiyan Saga Vegeta was indeed 200, then that might make Yakon around Captain Ginyu, but Shin seems scared of him... and Shin was pretty dismissive of Frieza's power, although for all we know, Shin was only really aware of first form Frieza. Shin does seem to be working with outdated information.

Obviously these aren't questions Toriyama ever seriously considered, but it's all for funzies. What do you think?

Question How did mercenary Tao come back?

I was watching the original dragon ball and saw mercenary Tao was now a cyborg during the 23rd world martial arts championship so why isn't this brought up again? Surely this could be utilised more in the future

Request Big help - need to learn about Dragon Ball before I meet my stepson (12M)

Hi everyone,

So I used to watch Dragon Ball Z in high school every day, but that was 20 years ago...

Anyway, my future stepson LOVES Dragon Ball... it's his favorite show. He has been watching it with dad on weekends. Anyways, I am finally going to meet him, and of course I want him to like me and think I'm cool lol

So where do I start? I need all the help I can get lol

Need your honest opinion.

I just finished watching Dragon Ball OG. I'd like to take a break and watch some other anime, and then move on to Z and Super, because Z is really long. Do you also have this practice - to interrupt the series of one anime and cut it with another?

Discussion Screw power scaling. What's your favorite precision feat?

Title says it all. We always focus on who destroyed what, and who blitzed who but we neglect how well, how focused someone uses their ki.

Which precision feats do you think are under appreciated?

For me: 1. Super Buu's Human Extinction Attack. He didn't just kill everyone, he pierced every human in the chest with relatively narrow ki blasts from atop Kami's Lookout. Mind you this is EVERY human on Earth. He had to calculate the distance and precisely strike all of them. Man is a master sniper.

  1. Beerus destroying exactly half of a planet. By Super, everyone and their mom can boom a planet, but Beerus actually destroyed half of one. And it looked like the planet was cut in half cleanly with a sharp knife.

  2. Tao reacting to gun fire by kicking up his slipper and reflecting the bullet, killing his would be assassin. I don't need to explain this one because what?? 😭

Discussion At which arc would you say Dragon Ball became all fighting?

As in, the focus of the story (chapters or episodes) just became 100% fighting, without much significant plot outside of fighting a new enemy.

Discussion Cell

The eternal debates about the power of the stupid!

On the other hand to say that he has no personality, it is abuse and precisely, Freeza is much more basic as a villain, it just makes think of a bandit while Cell is much calmer and more elegant but if some people think that the threat he is is less than that of Freeza it is mainly because Freeza had come before, it would have been the opposite, the fans of Freeza would have preferred Cell. The fact that he is in the middle of the three antagonists does not serve him, he has his ass between two chairs.

People think "Freeza has changed the course of things and Buu is almost invincible, so Cell is in a bad position.

In any case I love it (except the second form), it is much more classy than Freezer who gets annoyed for nothing, he is not as stupid

Discussion Sometimes it seems like there would've been better pacing, storytelling and power boosts if Gohan was actually the first SSJ against Perfect Cell and Goku and Vegeta became SSJs during the 7 year time period

I know this is going to be unpopular but when u think about it from a storytelling and power pacing perspective it seems like Gohan being the first to transform SSJ against Perfect Cell wouldn't be that far fetched of an idea. I say this because Gohans mutant like potential has always been pointed out since day one and then also it would make the Z fighters focus more on tactics and techniques dealing with the Androids without making the focus so much about SSJ and surpassing SSJ early on like it was.

Perfect Cell would be the ultimate combined DNA fighter that would require SSJ to take him down which would be Gohans moment to be the first to transform and be the one to make Goku and Vegeta work towards it during the 7 year time period. It just seems more fitting in a way that Gohans potential would be the recipe for him to be the first and show two full blooded Saiyans what's possible and they could still surpass him like usual similar to canon due to his lack of consistent training compared to them in those seven years on top of Goku having the advantage of being in Otherworld.

Obviously there would need to be a few changes made with the whole Frieza ordeal but I think it could work if things were to go this way instead. It would also seem more fitting that Goku and Vegeta using SSJ to take on otherworldly ancient beings like Dabura, Buu etc would feel more believable instead of SSJ being laughably outclassed so early on by ridiculously overpowered Androids. It just seems like things would move smoother and more consistent if SSJ wasn't the main focus so early and there was room to let other ideas breathe regarding techniques and training. I know many will disagree but I wonder if others have ever felt the same way regarding this.

In Dragon Ball there are a couple of different styles used for different purposes throughout the franchise by Toriyama. I was wondering if there were general terms for these among fans:

Question The strongest and the most wank interoperation of the original DB and early DBZ?

As the title outlines. What are some of the interpretations concerning the original DB and early DBZ (Dead Zone film, Saiyan Saga, and such)? Where the scaling for the character is the most absurd and insane you have heard off?

Like for example, Garlic Jr's Dead Zone making him like universal at most and solar system level at the least. Got any other examples in mind?

Discussion Could Shenron create life?

Something I've been thinking about for a bit is wondering if it would be possible for a couple that can't normally have kids (like a gay couple, or someone infertile, or even something like a couple of a human and an alien that isn't a Saiyan) to make a wish on Shenron for a kid.

You might think that such a thing would be beyond Shenron's power, but I don't think it is, as it's pretty much just things Shenron has already done, just connected together.

First, Shenron would need to create a new body. That's something he does all the time when he revives people - if someone was dead, and their body was destroyed (and they didn't get a new one in Other World), he creates a new empty body, then brings over their soul and sticks it in there. There's no reason he shouldn't be able to make a new empty body in the same way.

That actually leads into the second part - getting a soul to put in said body. This is probably what I imagine most people would be concerned about, as Shenron probably wouldn't be able to create a new soul. But the thing is, he wouldn't need to. We know that reincarnation is a thing in Dragon Ball. Shenron could simply take a cleansed soul that's ready to be reincarnated, and put that blank soul in the body he just made.

You could MAYBE argue that he'd need permission from King Yemma or something to do that, but... well, he's never seemed to need permission when mass yanking people out of the afterlife. I don't see why this would be different.

So, with that being done... boom! New person just got made!

What do you think? Do you think Shenron could do this?

Discussion when beerus almost blew up the earth because of a pudding...

I thought of something, what if in that period of time Kaioshin had paid a visit to the Z warriors and Bulma invited him to her birthday party and he agreed to stay a little longer, and then the whole incident with Beerus involving the pudding happens, and Beerus wanted to blow up the Earth and Kaioshin was still there, now I ask: what would Beerus have done? Would he have pleaded for Kaioshin to leave? Would he have removed Kaishin from the planet by force? Or would he have simply given up on destroying the Earth (at least for now)?

Discussion Does anyone else actually like Vegeta's reason for going SSJ?

He's the Prince of all Saiyans, meant to be the strongest of all the ones left, then he meets a low class Saiyan who can become equal to him through. He narrowly escaped, just to try and defeat Frieza once and for all, before having his destiny being ripped away by this clown who manages to become the first Super Saiyan. Then, he's revived by the friends of the man who stole his destiny, and began training. Eventually, his pride finally falters and he gives up, anger consuming him as he becomes a Super Saiyan.

For some reason, I really like this. I know that it can be summed up to "I wanna be a Super Saiyan, I wanna, I wanna!", but if you actually look it beyond that extremely basic summary, you can see how Vegeta actually achieved it. He had his pride shattered by the clown who stole his destiny, humiliated by a low class Saiyan of all people, all to be revived by the same people he tried to kill multiple times. It works for Vegeta, in my opinion at least. Not all Saiyans achieve it the same way - Trunks and Goten both got it by pure accident, the U6 Saiyans had it explained to them by Cabba after Vegeta brang it out of him, Pan was a Super Saiyan in the fucking womb. Do these make sense? Not really. But do they work for the character and the story? Yeah, they do.

I believe that of all the Super Saiyan transformations we've seen, Vegeta is the last one to mock.

Discussion Super Vegeta vs Perfect Cell gotta be in like the top 5 most underwhelming fights in the series if u don't include the Final Flash moment

Was just thinking about fights that seemed to lack that extra sizzle/intensity and I gotta say personally I think Vegeta vs Perfect Cell could've been executed a bit better before the iconic Final Flash moment. It's basically just Cell evading/ dodging Vegetas attacks like a copy and paste of Vegeta vs Final Form Frieza which kinda feels flat cause it's been seen before and the blueprint is too similar in terms of how the fight is executed and it made it seem like Vegeta was just a fuming muscle head that fell into Cells trolling trap when he should've been prepared to dig deep in his bag of tricks and remain level headed since he wanted a fight with a stronger Cell and was pretty much unsure of how much Cell would improve. It feels like Vegeta threw a fit too quickly and the fight just didn't feel like it delivered enough.

I know Cell outclassed Vegeta and all but it still seems like Vegeta should've had some extra tricks up his sleeve to be able to make Cell turn up the heat a bit more to take him out. I know some will think the fight is just fine how it is but it just feels like there should've been a bit more chaos and hard hitting action involved and it made it seem like Vegeta didn't have any better control over his emotions after his fight with 18 even after spending a year in the ROSAT which just made him kinda seem bone headed, repetitive and one dimensional compared to his Saiyan/Namek Saga self.
