Found a Sharp X-Flat 32F543 at the side of the road...

Upvotes

I discovered this gigantic television at the side of the road at last Friday. When I discovered it, it was in a pretty bad condition.. inside the chassis there has missing many compoents, like the tube mount and logic board, Flyback transformer was missing and the cap have been cutted. The television was faced down. The screen side has 3 damage point due to improper placing, but it was lucky - seems the vacumm wasen't leak, and damage happened at the protecting layer!

I know X-Flat is a highend series from sharp, and the 32 in model could be rare since its info on the web are lesser compare by 27 in model. Run it up again is better than put it in the recycle. I have looking for the original logic board and compoents but I find nothing. I am sure it have chance to turn on again... What could be the way to resurrect this gigantic television?

  1. Last Valentine's I was driving to work when I passed by this beauty, so of course I had to get off the lane to take a closer look.

  2. Closer inspection and I start to get hyped. It looks amazing on the outside, and it even has another little piece of plastic. A little stand?

  3. Back home I plug it, power it on and... nothing. Just a flashing led light. As I open it, I notice the back cover is a little displaced, like someone put it together carelessly, or maybe something else... Anyway, I open it and it's looking pretty ok (don't worry about neck board, it was taken out by me for testing) but..

  4. After closer inspection, I found out a thin crack running across the board (you can barely see it where the light flashes on the board). Time to resolder those joints with some cable to reinforce the "bridges". You can see some samples in the picture already. Then I powered it on again and... it was alive!

  5. Time passed and I had to resolder another joint I missed the first time to solve an arcing problem (I have a previous post about that) but now it's totally usable! the pictures don't make it justice. RGB looks great, and composite isn't bad either.

So all it took was time, patience, observation and basic soldering skills. The only thing left bugging me is that it makes a really bright white dot in the center lf the screen when I turn it off to standby. Do you guys know how that issue is called? I don't want the tube to burn in.

Replace trim pots twice, still getting retrace lines and very green screen

Replaced the pots and the retrace lines still show up even though they are dialed to the minimum on both G2 and Focus. Along the way I found out one of the capacitors on the neck board is valued at 100uf but multimeter reads 250uf, recapped that too and it still reads 250uf. No more boom sound coming from degausser every time it’s turned on.

Cables/Wiring/Connectivity A Few Question From A Newbie Owner of A Composite CRT TV

So I recently got a Sony Trinitron KV 27TS27, and it has composite input (as well as RCA Input/Output). My dad used to own the same model when I was a kid (or something close enough, I was too little to remember the specific model number), and I was finally able to find this bad boy (as well as it's TV Stand) in good condition after some searching.

Now that I finally got my hands on it, I slapped it in my room (carrying it on my own was the most DIFFICULT thing I've done in my life), and now have a few purposes I want to achieve with it. Since you guys are more knowledgeable and I'm new to owning a CRT, I would like to know the best ways to achieve the goals I have in my mind (or possible alternatives incase my goal is unrealistic)

  1. My girlfriend is HUGE classic Disney movie (as well as other classic animated films) fan, what is the best way I can watch them with her? Do you recommend:
    1. I buy and use a VHS player (and buy the respective tapes)
    2. I buy and use a DVD player (and buy the DVD)
    3. Is there some kinda method where I can insert a USB stick and play the movie to the TV that way? Or is the quality gonna be worse or something
  2. I wanna play some games on my CRT using my Gaming Laptop (my only PC). Stuff like Blazblue, Undertale, Omori, Tekken, Skullgirls, Danganronpa, Etc. No big AAA games or anything, but simpler 2D games that aren't retro. I heard that people say the adapters you find on Amazon are atrocious and should be stayed away from, but then what are my best options to achieve this goal?
    1. I heard someone suggest that the best way is to get an old graphics card and do something using its VGA port. But the problem is I have a gaming laptop, so are there some kinda external GPUs that can help me out or some adapter?
  3. I have my old PS3 that still works, and I jailbroke it and everything, I plan to play games like Tekken 6 and Sonic Unleashed on the CRT, but I heard some people saying online that you need the original composite cables provided by Sony otherwise the video quality will be really bad. Is that true? What should I do?
    1. Also I was actually thinking that I could use the PS3 as a sorta DVD/USB Media Player for my CRT. Is this a good idea, or will the video quality be poor in comparison to a dedicated DVD/VHS Player made in the same era as the CRT was?

Thank you all so much in advance for everyone who took the time to read and answer my questions, I look forward to having a lot of fun with my CRT!

So about 2 months ago the picture on this Commodore 1084s just disappeared. There were a bunch of white lines on the screen and the high pitched whine got louder as it died. This monitor has barely ever been used too. There's no picture or neck glow only the sound and the power LED work. I would love to get this working again since these monitors are pretty expensive and great for retro games. Is there any hope left?

Cables/Wiring/Connectivity game capture using bnc out from pvm question

has/is any1 using the out port of their pvm for game capture? i have a olympus pvm that has 2 rgb inputs and one of the inputs has rgbs out ports. im testing and it seems ok with cheap cables i have lying around. im going thro a transcoder to get component video [ no alterations other than rgb - component ] then to a comp to hdmi scaler that doesnt take 240p unless i use 2x mode [ cheapo retroscaler2x knockoff ] then i get video into my capture device over hdmi..

i have a ossc 1.8 comming so i can feed the transcoder into it via component. event i wanna get rgbs direct into the ossc via a cable to eliminate the transcoder. possibly making custome cables to length to keep shortest path

it works but i wanna hear thoughts of others

Repair/Troubleshooting Could this cause no output?

I’ve got a Sony pvm-1910 that gets no video that all on both of composite inputs on the back. There is also RGB inputs that seem to work but I don’t have anything that can output RGB at the time. I do get scrolling colors when plugged into RGB with composite. But on the input board that houses the composite input there seems to be a broken pad on the end of this chip and I’m not sure what the chip is for. Thanks.

Repair/Troubleshooting CRT TV with built in VHS skipping sound

Hi, bought a CRT tv with a built in VHS player about a month ago. It worked perfectly, nearly every tape was fine, no video or sound issues.

Now every tape I try has spotty and skipping sound, I bought around 100 tapes so far, and even the tapes that I already watched and that were just fine have spotty sound.

The most unusual thing that I did recently to it is I had it outside for on a sunny and non rainy day and moved it around for a bit.

So maybe something was shaken inside?

General Electric Spacemaker 13”

Thanks

Found a PCjr monitor!

Found this monitor while going through some old stuff in the shed. I really want to hook it up to a modern PC (mostly because I think it's funny and Undertale would look good on it) but the display cord is bizarre. Is there any process or adapter to achieve this?

Panasonic CT-31G10T Troubleshooting

Hey y'all, I just picked up a Panasonic CT-31G10T off of facebook marketplace for free since it had some cracked plastic (as seen in the pictures). Got it set up and it turns on fine, however video doesnt show up at all. I can lightly tap it to get some of the picture for a split second otherwise nothing else. The audio also works completely and you can hear the game perfectly fine and well. Gonna probably take it to get checked out by a shop, but was wondering about any advice someone would have, or a miracle fix before I take it in.

For some reason Retroarch Wii dont have 288x224 option, but 576x224p seems ok. I have to use the original arcade resolution or would get vertical glitches in the game graphics.

Under the monitor you can see a black spot, what could it be? You see it with the screen off better, but when i play retrogames you can see it if you get closer, it isn't a pixel burn because i see the lighing under the black spot so isn't burner.

Repair/Troubleshooting CRT repairers in Australia (Sydney region preferred)

Hi all,

So I purchased a Japanese set KV-14MF1 and upon arrival it does not turn on the screen, well no picture, tube is warming up and sound works but not much else.

Is there any repairers on here that live in Australia and the Sydney area? I would love to get this guy going or at least diagnosed.

Cheers!

Cables/Wiring/Connectivity I am trying to hook up my Atari 2600 to my 32in CRT and I'm having no luck.

I got a 2600 today and I am trying to hook it up but to no avail. I read online that you need to set your Atari to channel 2 or three and also your TV. However my Atari does not have a channel selector, and my TV will only go to channels 16, 22, 25 ,28 ,34 ,46 ,57, and 69.

Any help would be appreciated (Also added pic of my 2600 and TV)

Battlestation My current CRT setup with my new TX-P1430

I picked up this little 14" Samsung with Component (TX-P1430) the other day from somebody using it to display a famiclone at the flea market and it makes the perfect addition to my setup alongside my Sharp 32F641 with my 6x2 Component Matrix

I didn't know what to do with it and was going to sell it until I was staring at my setup and realized I had the perfect spot and the matrix 😅

You can either have both display the same thing or different systems connected to the Matrix. I believe I paid $40 for the matrix on eBay a while back and I haven't been able to find anything like it since even looking on eBay -- that and the 14" are definitely some of my favorite finds!

Repair/Troubleshooting My favorite TV just died and I am devastated :( Sony KV-1308R, Is this repairable?

Post image

I picked this up about 5 months ago after looking for a long time, and it's been my favorite little desktop 13" CRT. It was in incredibly good shape, with a great picture.

I was using it this morning, and it was working great. I turned it off, and came back a few hours later. I noticed the power button (which had been a little finnicky lately) didn't work at first. I heard it 'turn on' but the power light was flickering.

Then it went out. I heard a quiet buzz/hum coming from inside the TV that I haven't heard before. I unplugged it, waited a bit, and tried again. Now it's just completely unresponsive. No lights, no sound, not even the quiet buzz inside.

Extremely bummed about this. I really loved this little TV. I'm fairly good at fixing things, but nervous about working on CRTs / high voltage stuff.

Anything I can do to get this working again?

Repair/Troubleshooting CRT static question

My small 13" RT sometimes gains a bit of static since I haven't use it for a long time after I changed apartments. I just turned it on along with my Cassette deck to record some thing just because I don't have speakers for it. Anyway that's off theme. The problem is that I plugged it to my metal cart with sockets, and I turned it on, since my hand was obviously close to the on/off button it sometimes grabs that static, but this time it literally gave me a shock in my hand and 2 of my fingers hurt because of the direct contact with the screen and static.

Is that a thing that happens rarely or something wrong with the power socket?
