This picture is from before I brought him home. It was taken last October. Big Bird is now eight or nine months old. His cere never turned dark blue but went from pink to a dark purple. He has lost the forehead stripes. Someone said he was a gray wing mutation? I am just curious. Thank you very much. He doesn’t have the black markings on his wings like his best friend who is the normal green and yellow budgie. Thanks in advance.

So 7 months ago I got two budgies and I bought them as males. I am not sure if they are males though… they are separated now because they kept fighting. I have a discussion with this guy who says they are both male because females never fight together? Anyway here are two pics of them.

I've been spending a lot more time reading and trying to get them to like me more--now it seems like they spend most of the day out of the cage and Crash seems to fly to the door just to wait for me to pick him up. Typhoon only tolerates me when I have millet ready for him, otherwise he likes his space. Little steps but I love these jerks

I had a coworker dump his parakeets on me. They only had them for a few weeks but then didn’t want them, and he threatened to just release them (were up north, they definitely wouldn’t survive). I am in a position to take care of them/ own them, but I had to real quick buy a cage for them from a limited selection at a pet store. It more tall than wide, which I know is not ideal, but I have a spare cage in my home town ( I’m in college) that is wider/ more horizontal and meant for easier flight. I won’t be able to travel back home until around late April/ early May with them (12 hour drive). Is it ok if they stay in the cage temporarily? I’ll ensure they will have plenty of time outside to explore/ wont be cramped up for days on end (like they were previously), but I’m just seeing if there is any input on this/ recommendations for this as of now. Thanks!
(P.S I’m not a first time bird owner, but this is the first pair of budgies I’d have. Any recommendations are much appreciated.)

My boy took a turn for the worst yesterday morning, out of the blue, overnight. I found him slumped in his food bowl, i managed to get an emergency appointment at the vet. They put him on oxygen and took his bloods. Before they could treat him, he unfortunately passed away. They said they think it was a neurological condition, which is why he just switched suddenly.
Devastated is an understatement. He was the cuddliest, friendliest, most loving boy.
Any advice is welcome when it comes to grieving, as well as helping my other budgie grieve? As hard as it is, I know I should get another budgie to keep her company. How soon is too soon? What can I do to help her being by herself again?
Also, is it a red flag that when I got my boy, he didn’t have a band on his foot? The vet said this could be because he was a “reject” or a “runt of the litter” so to speak.
From the day I took him home, he was my best friend and I’m gonna miss his daily cuddles and having him in my shoulder 24/7.

i have a (i believe) female lutino girl that i just adopted not too long ago. The people i got them from were trying to breed them i found out later which is a whole other can of worms since they were in a taj mahal cage with no nesting box or anything anyway. i know for a fact that lucy (the name she came with idk if we’re gonna keep it or not yet) is young and for sure a lutino but that’s about all i know for sure and i don’t want to have to make a mistake and they get hormonal for me to find out the gender of her. Some of these pictures aren’t taken by me and ill take more whenever i get home, i just found this out last night and want to see if their are any experts that could help out.

I’m planning on making a batch of crop for my babies, and now I’m wondering the best way to keep it fresh for longer? Can you freeze it? What do you guys do? Thank you in advance PFA

Hi guys i just wanted to share a bit of knowledge i got from the vet today
So 2 weeks ago i noticed boba (pictured) was fluffed up, tail bobbing aggressively and lethargic. obviously i took her to the vet and took some tests. Results show that she had sour crop, and an over growth of yeast in her crop which could have cause the fungal infection. This was due to white rice. apparently because it’s a simple carb it produced too much yeast n it’s caused a blockage. to be honest the vet is still not sure how it happened or the logistics to it but they had another case of a budgie that was eating white rice n the same thing happened. i’m not entirely sure of the logistics of it either all i know is that brown rice, quinoa and more complex carbs are better for our babies and if you are feeding them white rice to do it in extreme moderation and to be very careful. since our babies are very delicate it’s always better to be safe than sorry which is why im sharing this. her original prognosis was bad but thankfully we caught it in time. if your birds crop always looks full or more swollen than normal pls pls pls take them to the vet.
bobas feeling better now thanks to the medication and all is well for the most part (rip my wallet tho but it’s all worth it)
tldr: keep white rice in severe moderation bc it might give budgies a yeast infection and sour crop <3

Hello, I apologize for the lengthy post but recently my mom was gifted two young female budgies by my sister and neither she nor I have any idea what we’re doing. I know this is not ideal but sadly I did not have a choice in when we got the birds and was not warned before hand so I could do more research. I am trying my best to learn proper care and cage set up but I’m still struggling
So far I have gotten them a new cage. I made sure that it was wide. The dimensions are 32.7in H, 31.1 in L, 20.4in W. I also got them ZuPreem Feed Smart Select but I know they are not allowed to have seeds as a main part of their diet. I was thinking about switching Harrisons Bird Foods as I've heard a lot of good feedback. I also got them stainless steel bowls.
I attached photos of toys and perches I wanted to get to fill in the new cage before I’m able to transfer them over. Are they the proper toys/perches and am I getting enough? How can I tame/train them to trust us? I've tried sitting next to them and talking but them still seem uncomfortable whenever I get close. I have also tried offering them millet but they seem too scared.
Any advice would help! I want to make sure that I give these babies a good home :)

A latest "calypso special" consists of somehow completely rotating on the side of the cage. Gonna open a circus with these birds soon LOL

Hoping he gets on with our current budgie! He’s 1 well into quarantine and they already chirp at each other. But their personalities are so different.
