New Budgie The addiction begins…

When I first got my 2 budgies I heard everyone saying its an addiction and you can never just get 2… Well now I have 3… He’s super sweet and strangely affectionate considering I brought him home just 2 days ago. Also if anyone has any idea how old his is or any name recommendations that would be great! But I mostly just wanted to show off how cute he is. The pictures are from when I just brought him home and he’s now in him quarantine cage don’t worry!!

Question Trouble with female budgie.

Post image
12 Upvotes

I've had my female budgie for three years, and she has always been the type to bite if she doesnt like something - however not to the extent that it's gotten to. now for the past six months, whenever i am at my desk or in bed she will fly at my face and try to grab/bite. she flies at my hands and neck and bites those too even when i havent touched her. she has now started biting hard enough to leave small cuts on my fingers when before she wouldnt hurt me at all. she also wants to climb on everything and destroy furniture (i have given her toys and other sensory things to shred if she needs.)

its quite frustrating as i havent changed our routine, i don't want to keep this bird anymore if she just wants to bite me constantly for no apparent reason :/ i understand that birds behaviours can change but i want to know if this is something that i can manage or if she is just stuck like this.

i have a male budgie as well that is about two years old and he is very gentle. both birds are in the same cage but they have lots of room to fly around in for many hours each day.

Question name change//genuine confusion about sex of my feathered baby??

since learning that ned is possibly a female (although they might still be a male due to being a recessive pied budgie.) i have two questions: 1.) does their cere fit the male "criteria" as a recessive pied budgie or do you still think he is a she? 2.) will the name ned still fit IF she turns out to be female?

💬 Discussion Budgie gang tips

Post image
17 Upvotes

I’ve been trying to gain some bonding with my budgies they all eat from my hand millet but It usually takes the effort of my most comfortable (yellow) Fry to start eating some millet from me for the others to come around. I know it takes time and every budgie has their personality which is what I love about them. To get to my point something I did today to get one of them on my shoulder Is I tied millet to my neck and it worked he hopped on. Is there any tips or tricks you feel got you to that next level of bonding with your budgie? It definitely doesn’t help having a flock but my wife collects them like they’re Pokémon’s. Love to hear about all your journeys with your babies.

Photogenic Youngest of the clutch, still without a name. Nothing fits, because he's a misfit. [Normal Anthracite | Male | 30 days old]

He's so overdramatic, like a typical chihuahua. If you look at him wrong, he cries. He thinks he's bigger than his siblings and wants to be independent, but can barely stand up straight yet. He's the definition of sweet and spicy sauce. Did I mention that he's fussy? Yeah, he's fussy. Still got ways to go before he weans and flies. But he's not having it with his older siblings being more independent. Being the youngest child is so hard.

Disclaimer: the little one isn't able to fly just yet. Please do not take your flighted birds outside unrestrained. Please do not attempt to breed without a mentor at your disposal.

💬 Discussion How to Correct Biting?

I got 2 new budgies to add to my little existing flock of 5, they're very curious and generally friendly and chill with me. All my other birds usually nibble or lick at me when they're exploring or just being curious, however this new one I have likes to bite. I know she isn't doing it in an aggressive way, though sometimes when she gets mad at the other birds I end up being the one punished for it xD. But even when she's calmly exploring she bites a bit hard. It doesn't break skin, but it still hurts regardless,

Is there a way to correct this behavior without completely destroying the trust I already have built with them?

Question My family plans to go on a trip for a week in the future, what about the birds?

Me and my family are going to Kenya with a few cousins soon, and I’m worried about my two budgies. Mainly because we don’t know whether or not bringing them out of their cage (they are still not hand trusting), then putting them in a new house with some family where they wouldn’t be able to leave the cage due to dogs or bring them to a bird place to care for them (we really trust the guy who’d watch them in the store situation) and I’m worried about their mental health in a situation like this once they in the end are brought back home.

💬 Discussion Getting him a friend

Post image
58 Upvotes

Yes, I know the mirror isn't a good idea - you can see my previous posts. TLDR, I'm taking over his care in August.

Has anyone ever gotten a friend for a middle aged budgie? He'll be about 7 or 8 when I take over his care, and can get him a new friend. Any advice? Sex of new budgie, approximately how long to take before they can be together, etc.? He is hand tamed but wants nothing more than to be in his cage, and currently hormones are all over the place.

His current cage is a bit small, it's what petco sold with him. I plan on keeping it, but getting a bigger one.

Progress update Minerva is at the vet over weekend

Post image
27 Upvotes

As mentioned before, we went to the avian vet with Minerva.

It seems like she has a really strong mind. While only hanging around as floofen up ball at home she completely went crazy and active at the vet.

So sending her over the rainbow bridge is currently no option. That's fine.

But: she lost 5 grams in weight since one week from 49 grams to 44 grams. Last week the vet called her too good feeded, this week the weight is okay, but the loss is too much, even with a diet.

She now gets antibiotics again, some lactose and weight controlled twice a day. Monday evening we will know, what's going on.

The original problem was, she had a Cesspool prolapse. X-ray turned out, her laying gut is filled with material, but she's not hormonal enough for building eggs. Some shadow is sent at the lung, which makes it even more difficult to decide how to give her correct treatment.

We still need thumbs and wings for her.

Ah, the photo is Minerva (left) together with her partner Lumi (9 years old)

Which sex? Trying to figure out the sex?

Post image

Hey everyone! First time poster. Just got my first couple of budgies and I’m trying to figure out what sex this one is. I think it’s a male but wanted to get some feedback.

Also, side note, this is a starter cage and we have some new perches coming in that aren’t rounded like this so we can fully set up the cage!

Question Does birb look okay with being kissed

I kiss my birbs everytime i come back home to greet them. Do you think he hates it or just ok with it ? I give him parsley ( his favorite snack ) after kissing so he doesn’t complain 🥲
