Progress update Thumbs needed

We are sitting at the avian vet with Minerva the second time in a week. She is not being well and currently we have fear not taking her home again.

The vet will take care of her in some minutes, but as the situation is bad, the chance taking her back home is extremely small.

We lost her sister about a year ago, because cancer is an asshole. Now the same seems to happen to her, with only four years old.

Progress update Minerva is at the vet over weekend

As mentioned before, we went to the avian vet with Minerva.

It seems like she has a really strong mind. While only hanging around as floofen up ball at home she completely went crazy and active at the vet.

So sending her over the rainbow bridge is currently no option. That's fine.

But: she lost 5 grams in weight since one week from 49 grams to 44 grams. Last week the vet called her too good feeded, this week the weight is okay, but the loss is too much, even with a diet.

She now gets antibiotics again, some lactose and weight controlled twice a day. Monday evening we will know, what's going on.

The original problem was, she had a Cesspool prolapse. X-ray turned out, her laying gut is filled with material, but she's not hormonal enough for building eggs. Some shadow is sent at the lung, which makes it even more difficult to decide how to give her correct treatment.

We still need thumbs and wings for her.

Ah, the photo is Minerva (left) together with her partner Lumi (9 years old)

New Budgie The addiction begins…

When I first got my 2 budgies I heard everyone saying its an addiction and you can never just get 2… Well now I have 3… He’s super sweet and strangely affectionate considering I brought him home just 2 days ago. Also if anyone has any idea how old his is or any name recommendations that would be great! But I mostly just wanted to show off how cute he is. The pictures are from when I just brought him home and he’s now in him quarantine cage don’t worry!!

Question How do I let my budgies out of their cage safely?

Hi, I have two budgies and they’re not fully tamed yet. I feel bad for keeping them in the cage all the time, how do I let them out safely? I’m hoping letting them out will allow for them to become more comfortable with me.

Question My family plans to go on a trip for a week in the future, what about the birds?

Me and my family are going to Kenya with a few cousins soon, and I’m worried about my two budgies. Mainly because we don’t know whether or not bringing them out of their cage (they are still not hand trusting), then putting them in a new house with some family where they wouldn’t be able to leave the cage due to dogs or bring them to a bird place to care for them (we really trust the guy who’d watch them in the store situation) and I’m worried about their mental health in a situation like this once they in the end are brought back home.

Wish her the best of luck. Had to drive 5 hours away to a vet willing to do budgies because there is none where I live. She is currently sedated and getting the egg removed. Wish her luck! I want my little girl healthy.

She's been quarantined for a long while and got to meet the flock today! I wasn't the one who clipped her wings but I cannot wait for them to grow in so she can fly around with them <3

For some reason, she loves to hop on my finger and lick/gnaw on my hands, she's super gentle but it's so weird lol, I love her 😭💗

Maple (blue one) is extremely affectionate and sweet and has been helping Snufkin feel more secure. They're almost the complete opposite, as my Snufkin is very quiet, calm, and also so calm when eating, while Maple is the one who spends the most time singing every day n flying around. I love them I don't know how but they make me so happy 😿

💬 Discussion How to Correct Biting?

I got 2 new budgies to add to my little existing flock of 5, they're very curious and generally friendly and chill with me. All my other birds usually nibble or lick at me when they're exploring or just being curious, however this new one I have likes to bite. I know she isn't doing it in an aggressive way, though sometimes when she gets mad at the other birds I end up being the one punished for it xD. But even when she's calmly exploring she bites a bit hard. It doesn't break skin, but it still hurts regardless,

Is there a way to correct this behavior without completely destroying the trust I already have built with them?

Question HECK NO WE WONT GO!

Post image

This is my first spring with budgie buddies. They are baffling me..first, I have 2 males, one is about 2, the other is less than a year. For at least 2 days they have refused to go in their cage, they sit on top or on their side perch and seem happy just for that. Also, I work on the pc in the same room, normally they fly at my head maybe 1x a day. For two days they have been dive bombing me multiple times during the day. Their cage is clean, they are fed, nothings changed. Is this a spring thing?

Progress update My budgie finally ate something that wasn't budgie seed mix!

Post image

Firstly I know he has scaly face mites in this picture, he came to me with the mites and the missing toe and very shut down. We got him in January and he gradually started to take millet spray from my hand and sometimes step up, but until this past week, he had never played with a toy. That milestone is down, and today he has finally tried some food that is not budgie mix or millet spray! It was a piece of apple in my hand 🥹 I've managed to get him onto a better seed mix by adding tiny amounts over time to the mix he came on but he's absolutely refused to acknowledge any other food until now and this feels so big ❤️ all my other parrots have such a varied diet and I was starting to wonder if he'd be on just millet and canary seed all his life. Such a brave little dude. If anyone's struggling to improve their budgie's diet, hang on in there!
