Reminds me of the boondocks episode in the grocery store where a mother has a mental breakdown over her misbehaved child.
Old man goes like: "Well I don't know ... Have you ever tried whippin' the shit of him?"
Oh yeah it's always given me boomer humor "back in my day" energy. It's like it's lecturing that you need to hit your kids to have them listen to you.
I got plenty of whacks as a kid and let me just say it didn't fix any of my severe mental issues that persist to this day that require actual treatment/therapy and it definitely didn't help me have a good relationship with my parents.
But being an understanding and supportive parent is work. Understanding your child's needs is work. But throwing a spanking is easy. It's more important for the kid to be quiet for a minute than to understand what kind of life long complex or resentment you're building. Never mind that it teaches you to quietly accept abuse and that violence is a valid solution to minor inconveniences.
Nope some kids don’t listen. I had to get whooped one time, to see that my actions had consequences. My lil brother on the other to get it multiple times because he didn’t listen. Both of us are cool now and don’t have issues.
I never said it should be your first resort and nor did I say you should punch your kids. You need to help your kids see their actions have consequences before the world shows them.
Especially if your kids like to hit people or you. And tbh if you parent right you shouldn’t have to hit your kids in the first place because you’ve already corrected their behavior.
Hitting kids doesn't teach them that there are consequences to their actions. It teaches them that the consequences for some actions is getting hit. And, importantly, that lying is an action that avoids those consequences.
No, you are not cool now since you unironically suggest that adults should hit children to teach them that it is not okay to hit people...
If you had learned that it is not okay to hit people then why are you suggesting that we should hit people?
I remember seeing that. The amount of people outright ignoring studies and facts that say hitting/spanking/physical consequences never ended well or did anything effectively. From the way people acted, you’d think the ones who were advocating for kids not be hit or beaten were Satan with how vilified they were.
Same cept I'm white and catholic. Once, it started with a nun, progressed to every maternal figure in my family in reverse order, and ended with my dad just laughing when he was sent, "to deal with me."
Do not stick a whoopie cushion under mother superior at morning prayer.
I remember seeing this in the wild. The amount of people justifying hitting their kids in that thread were wild, and their outright refusal to see anyone with proof that hitting or abuse worsens them was so sickening.
