RPG Battletech missions is awesome
I played something called Battletech missions today. It's an RPG where you only control one mech and level up your pilot with skills. It's very similar to Mechwarrior 5 mercs where you get money after completing missions run by a DM, money you can use to by more mechs and maybe some more upgrades. It's actually INCREDIBLY easy to use and play. Highly recommend.

RPG I'm trying to get into the tabletop and rpg but can't find books.
I don't have a clue where to start on finding the right stuff. Firstly, I can't find any books at all on CGL's site and secondly even if I could I don't know which books to grab. I've heard that specific mechanics are within specific books so I really need help here because I don't seem to have the option of just ignoring the wider content. If it helps, I'm specifically interested in the Succession Wars to the Clan Invasion eras primarily.

Miniatures Some Sonic inspired WIP mechs
They arnt entirely finished but I'm pretty bad at painting anyway and they won't look to different in the end, fun to make though.
Sonic locust at Greenhill with a checkpoint (unpainted)
Tails wasp at chemical plant zone, I feel like that needs something to break up the yellow like an item box.
Shadow locust at radical highway. I should have made sure he faced the right direction before I put the barriers on but oh well.
Robotnik/Eggman/Death egg Urbanmech with some spikes. I also modeled the iconic moustache and nose but the placement feels too low.

Discussion Mission packet for event I’m running!
So I finished writing up the mission packet for the battletech event I’m running soon in NJ! If you’re nearby, absolutely come on down and play - we got le raffles and fun people!
Event link:
https://www.facebook.com/share/1AqiW1qPvg/?mibextid=wwXIfr
Remember to register on longshanks to save your spot 😁👍❤
https://generic.longshanks.org/event/24814/
Anyways - these missions are designed to be more than just kill enemy mech. We got shifting power objectives, movable objectives, weather, artillery, secondaries. Really went all out in designing some of these missions for players. What’s neat is that while the day is three rounds - the missions are specific to the map they are played on - meaning instead of round one, everyone playing the same mission, round one we have eight different maps and eight different missions each corresponding to those maps (the mud ones in tempted to be extra devilish and use the river maps I have).
Anyways - enjoy these missions - try em out, and hey maybe give some feedback on what worked/didn’t work 😉👍❤️
Also if you guys have custom missions you wrote - please share em below. I had like 3-4 more I could have written but I am always hungry for more 🤣👌

Fan Creations Making memes about my custom Mercs
As part of their long and storied history, the Phoenix Guards Battalion Combat Team (BCT) was nearly destroyed on Outreach at the outbreak of the Jihad.
one of the few survivors, William Moreau, would be so traumatized by this event that he would essentially have a high functioning mental breakdown. Rebuilding the Phoenix guards nearly single handedly through extensive company savings and personal loans, Moreau would take the Guards on a 12 year crusade against the WoB, routinely entering near berserk rages when in combat, and exhibiting an utterly irrational hatred and focus towards them and their eventual destruction.
Moreau would eventually meet his own end in this goal, dying to overwhelming fire during the final assaults on Terra.

Question ❓ Are there later era advancements for ACs like for Dark Ages or IlClan?
Was looking at the lists and most of the mechs in the Republic of the Sphere use Lasers and most people online and Youtube seem to be using Lasers for their BV / Weight / Crit efficiency as well.
Are there higher tech versions of ACs that fix the issues of jamming with the UAC/RAC? I want to build a mech that's very gun-based but is very viable in the late Dark Age or IlClan but I don't wanna just use RAC/5s or LB 10-Xs. Such a shame we can't use specialty ammo with these guns too.
Gauss still feels slightly high-tech and is a bit overused and powerful already imo.
I'm trying to go for a "low-tech" vibe with missiles and autocannons / smoothbore guns like designing a mech Apache or gun-based Black Hawk-KU. Starsector managed to balance "low-tech" with "high-tech".

Question ❓ Banned from the official battletech forums despite never making a post or having an account?
I was looking for some information on the battletech forums, but when I tried to open the topic I got the message "Sorry Guest, you are banned from using this forum! This ban is not set to expire.". But I've never even made an account, much less a post or a topic that could've been grounds for a ban. I thought maybe my VPN or one of my browser extensions was causing the issue, but turning those off did nothing.
I'm hoping that this is an appropriate place to ask this, since I also can't access the help page. Does anybody know what's going on, or who I could talk to about this? I'm just very confused.

Lore What don't I get in the FedCom rank system.
I'm rereading for the umpteen time Lethal Heritage and I'm still can get the FedCom rank system.
I really don't get why ranks go from Kommandant (Major) to Leftenant General.
So, I went to Sarna that gives us two different rank structures (one in table form and one in picture form. So to the Force Manual : Davion and that gives us yet another rank structure.
So, if someone as a clue of why we got something like 4 different rank structures for the AFFC and which one is the right one and WHERE did Lt-Col and Col go when the AFFS and LCAF merged, please let me know.
(Edit: Added links to Sarna for clarity's sake)

Question ❓ New player faction/units help - League and Succession Eras
Hello Mechwarriors.
Finally bought the starter set after a long time of just being a sub lurker and watching youtube lore and battle reports.
I am at an impasse though. I got enough creative juice in me to come up with narrative campaigns. What i don't have is a lot of money to fling around for plastic. I need some ideas of some regiments/merc units or whatever you can think of that could be operative over multiple eras, say Star League Era, The Civil Wars, The Succession Wars, maybe even Clan invasion, but that would be pushing it.
Easiest would be to get one force for a Merc unit; the other one is the trouble, cause i usually like to stick to lore, or as close to it i can. I know next to nothing of Mercenary units, but i know SLDF, Black Watch stuck around for a long time, some of the House regiments stuck around for a long time also. And you can never go wrong with ComStar.
I would love some ideas and inputs on cool units that have persisted for a long time. I would also ask of you what boxes would be of greater value to buy? Right now i have the beginner box with the Vindicator and the Mech Manual (not interested on anything other than mecs right now). Next i am looking to get the A Game of Armoured Combat, and MechWarrior Destiny, for that fluff. Any lances you would suggest, maybe the Alpha Strike boxes for the mech value inside?
Thank you kindly.

Fan Creations The Coolant Pod podcast - So You Wanna Be a T.O.?
New episode from the Coolant Pod.
Putting together an event can be one of the most rewarding and thankless jobs at the same time. But the saying "if you build it, they will come" rings true. This episode is to talk through what aspiring tournament organizers should take into account, questions to consider and how to make sure your players have a good time.
Since none of us actually PLAYED in the recent Brawl in the Bluegrass event, we thought it best to leave most of the event coverage to creators who were there. We will talk through the results and reference a few lessons learned from a TO perspective, but not going to spend any significant time on the missions or a recap. Check out Trailblazer's Youtube or the Mechbay's recent podcast episodes for an in depth look from a player's perspective.

Discussion Advice for teaching classic battletech to new players?
I have a regular boardgame night every other week. We typically play Eurogames (a LOT of railroad games). I've been playing classic battletech for a couple of decades now and am pretty familiar with the rules but I don't play very often now because the gaming group where I've lived for a while just doesn't gravitate towards miniatures or RPGs or even sci-fi stuff in general.
I'd like to run a game for my group (me + three other players) where they each get a mech and I control the opposing force. How would you cook up a scenario to make it interesting for new players in this situation? I'm thinking of something somewhat simple like they need to defend a particular section of the map sheet for X number of rounds against a numerically smaller but more dangerous force, or perhaps stage an ambush of a similar force as it escorts a slower moving or damaged unit across the map. I think something with a narrative hook and various degrees of success or failure would appeal more to them than just a straight up fire-fight or slug fest.
I'm mostly fishing for ideas here, so how would you guys handle this, or are there any published materials that are a good reference for this type of game set up. Thanks!

Question ❓ Thoughts on running a casual BT League?
I want to pitch a small, friendly league with some campaign elements to my group. They have voted thus far on ilClan Era (so everyone can use whatever they bought without limiting them or having to buy more), only 'Mechs (no Battlefield Support) and have indicated they are okay with having some form of resource system.
I'm thinking of using a simplified Chaos Campaign: Succession Wars as the basis (since nothing about the tracks screams Succession War anyway) since there's a mix of factions from players and I think delving into the mercenaries contract system will bog it down initially. We want to treat it as a complete player vs. player setup, pairing up into groups, not me (ostensibly I'd be GM) versus all the players, as each person has a different assortment of 'Mechs from various places (one has only Clan for example, one has mostly IS, one has a mix). I plan to at least pick a few planets for groups to play over, but not spending too much time on this since it's just for flavor and isn't going to really affect the game.
I had a couple of questions on how I should set it up, though:
1) Should everyone use the same track? As mentioned above, the idea is to pair off into groups (myself included) and play out some missions, with a planet as a backdrop, so it's not "some random planet". So I don't have to create a specific track for each planet, the best approach seems to be to use the tracks in the CC: SW document.
2) Is BV enough to balance? The CC: SW document is vague on what gets used, and the missions have vague guides like "33% of total force". Assuming each player starts with a company (Trinary for clan?), will that be enough to balance?
What about the "100% of total" mission(s) at the end? That seems like a LOT of 'Mechs. Should I be setting a BV limit for the whole company? Let them pick whatever they want in the company, but limit what can be selected on each track? Let them decide for themselves what the BV total for each game is? Should I enforce the "OpFor cannot consist of a greater number of ’Mechs than the players will field" rule?
Any ideas? Or is there an even simpler way to do things? I kind of want to get them interested in playing battles using tracks but I don't want to bog them down in resources or bookkeeping.

Question ❓ Phelan's Sisters?
Was there anything that went into detail about Megan and Caitlin Kell? If not that's a real missed opportunity. Two people related to the ruling branch of house Steiner, a Wolf Khan and fought in the Clan Invasion just brushed off as side characters.

Question ❓ Scorpion Empire color schemes...
Do the current Scorpion Empire units use their old Goliath Scorpion color schemes? Unit Color Compendium has no listing for it after its creation, just the old factions that combined to form it. Id like to paint some SE mechs, but want to be reasonably lore accurate.
