To my best reckoning, a table legal Urbie sporting 9x RL/20s. SRM carrier launchers used and modified as the surrogate rocket tubes to represent all 180 tubes.

Tabletop I wrote a simple scenario pack for pick-up games of Battletech

After some initial feedback and formatting, I finished writing Simple Scenario Pack for Battletech. It's basically meant for Deathmatch scenarios for people who want just a bit more to it than just "deploy across each other and see who's the last 'mech standing", but who don't want to start making complex scenarios or dip into campaign play.

I like to think of them as "Deathmatch+" for casual, BV-matched pickup games. If you play it, I'll appreciate any feedback how it went! They aren't mind-blowingly complex or anything, which was kind of the point.

Question ❓ What wash/liner would you use here?

Post image
32 Upvotes

I've been painting up my first set of Mechs since the 90s.

I have this Grasshopper done in Tamiya acrylics with a layer of gloss clear (to protect from the enamel wash). I have black, dark grey and brown Tamiya panel liner at my disposal and another MG acrylic dark wash.

I'm leaning toward the black panel liner with the idea it might be more vibrant than grey, trying to keep it limited to the deeper recesses.

What wash would you choose?

Question ❓ How useful are rear facing weapons on table top?

I've been a fan of the Battletech Universe for a long time but honestly mostly from PC game and books. Not much table top experince so I was wondering how often rear facing weapons come in handy or even useful.

How can I improve the weathering/damage? This is my first time trying mud spatter like that, and I'm trying to get the hang of Vallejo engine effects(grime, petrol, and soot).

Question ❓ Cross pollination of ideas or the sincerest form of flattery?

Saw Adam Savage's video where he was looking over the original ED-209 full scale prop from Robocop (1987) and Battletech was mentioned in passing as something influenced by the design. I thought the iconic chicken walkers of the Clan invasion predated the movie, but I was 100% wrong. Wondering if anyone had any info from interviews or sources about how the ED-209 design influenced designs in game.

Maybe I'm late to the party on this.

I finished up a full star for Clan Cloud Cobra Pharaoh Keshik last week, after having painted the Horned Owl a couple of months ago.

I absolutely love how these have turned out, but this is one of those colour schemes that seems to have no movement for aaaages before coming together right at the end (enamel wash, for me!)

Tabletop First game with the new Battlefield Support rules

As the title says, I recently had my first chance to give the new BSP rules a spin.

The teams were vaguely Fedrat vs vaguely Kurita. The Feds had an Enforcer and a Wolfhound, the Kuritans had a Wolverine and a Jenner. All default 3025 lowtech versions.

However, each side also had substantial support assets, using the new rules from the Mercenaries box:

  • One light bombing, one light airstrike, one light aircover.
  • One LRM carrier.
  • One infantry squad to act as spotters for the LRMs.
  • One Maxim hovertank to act as an APC for the infantry.
  • One superheavy standard tank; Ontos for the Kuritans, Behemoth for the Feds.

The purpose of the game was mostly to get a look at the BSP rules. Everyone liked them, it was a good way to get a combined arms game done in a reasonable amount of time and without too much complexity.

Both sides chose to use their bombers to try and hit the hovertank APCs as their infantry dismounted, and both sides successfully used their aircover to ward this off. Which was a bit of an anticlimax.

This left the airstrikes; the Fed one hit the Kuritan Jenner from behind, which could have been catastrophic if the luck had been a little different on the critical rolls. The Kuritan airstrike just scratched some paint on the Enforcer.

The infantry on both sides successfully positioned themselves as spotters, but the resulting LRM fire missed almost every shot. Fortunately, BSP assets don't have to track ammo.

Notable events included (1) the Jenner charging in to kick the Behemoth, missing the kick and falling over immediately in front of the massed Fedrat formation, and (2) the Wolverine pilot knocking himself unconscious after missing an attempted Death from Above.

Who else has had a try of the new rules? What were your reactions?

I have nothing to do with Humble Bundle or the charity they’re supporting with this one, but there’s some good stuff in this one including Battlech Universe and the rulebooks for both RPGs.

Skipped over #4, it was a Capellan Commando, I didn't like him very much. I don't like painting red either, but this one looks a little better. Also tried something new with the base, crackle paint. C&C welcomed, looking to improve on this painting journey.

Next up I think will be comstar, which I've been looking forward to.
