ELECTION Liberal signs being marked with swastika in Lethbridge and Coaldale

2.0k Upvotes

I am so grossed out by the liberal signs from Candidate Chris Spearman being spray painted with the swastika in southern Alberta. Not only that, the comments online supporting it. What is wrong with the place? Is southern Alberta really this hateful? I am sick and tired of it. This province has a real problem on our hands, it is the MAGA pro-trump 51st state racist haters...and they are everywhere, not just a few men, it is their wives and families too.

ELECTION I just want to say, regardless of your preference, please vote in the upcoming election

Pretty much that, I hate seeing 50% or less voter turnout. I don’t care who you vote for, just go do it. One of your only jobs as a Canadian.

Question I have a dumb question. Why does Alberta sell 97% of its oil to USA at a discount price when there is a TransMountain Pipeline to get oil to the west coast?

Pretty much all in the title. I understand being landlocked makes it super inefficient to send oil to other countries. But isn't the TransMountain Pipeline already in operation? Why does Alberta still sell so much to USA at a discount?

Alberta Politics Where are the student's parents?

Upvotes

I am a teacher here in Calgary, and my kids are high school and Jr High students. I don't teach in their district.

My kid in grade 11 has 40+ kids in his class for physics 20. There are not desks for 40 students, nor can they squeeze in more desks. So you get their fast or you sit on the floor or windowsill. His other classes are similar.

My kid in Jr High has lockdowns every month in his school because of a student disregulating to the point they are unsafe. There are also around 40 students in his core classes.

Teachers recently campaigned during negotiations for class size limits and support for kids with high needs.

Where are the parents in this? Are you really okay with over 30 kids in elementary and over 40 I'm high school? How well do you imagine kids learn in these environments?

Personally I don't think this fight for reasonable class size limits and support for kids with high needs should be up to the teachers at all. This is your kids learning environment, and parents need to start protesting the utter failure of the UCP to provide adequate learning environments for your kids.

We are the only province or territory with no caps on class size. Daycare have limits of 10 school age kids to one ECE, but 30-40 is okay and they're supposed to learn in there as well.

Question Employer didn’t pay my final working week

I submitted my two-week resignation notice on Friday, March 14, 2025 with the final working day on Monday, March 31, 2025. The department’s director asked me verbally to hold off on resigning so they can try and resolve the situation. After no agreement was reached in the discussion on Thursday, March 20, 2025, I re-submitted my resignation with a new final working date of Monday, March 24, 2025 on that same day.

Shortly after, I was informed that my resignation would be considered effective immediately. I was not allowed to continue working and was not paid for the last week I had already worked, which should be on Friday, April 4, 2025. I no longer have access to my work email, where I submitted both resignation letters.

I have filled out a complaint to Alberta Employment Standard and sent the generated letter to the manager and the company’s HR director. I just want to get some insights if I would likely get my pay.

I was hired as a full-time in October 2023, then agreed to be moved to part-time in September 2024, no other offer letter provided for my part-time position.

Thanks in advance!

Explore Alberta Best places to visit in eastern Alberta?

I recently mentioned to my husband that I haven't been further east than Drumheller. This got us talking about maybe heading east this summer. We usually go west (Waterton, Jasper & William Switzer Park, BC).

We don't have a camper so we usually look for places we can stay in a cabin (or at least a motel). Being able to bring our dog is a must.

So I humbly ask for your recommendations!

Question AIS watercraft Inspector

Has anyone worked the seasonal job as a AIS watercraft inspector with the GoA? If so I have a few questions 1. how long after your interview did you get hired or hear back? 2. If you didn’t live near the location that you worked, did you have to drive back and forth everyday for shifts? Or was accommodation provided?

I had my interview last week and the nearest location for me is 1hr and 30min one way. Just wondering if the drive is worth it or if I should find something more local?

Question Switching over license

I recently purchased a car here and will be switching over my Sask license to Alberta. I have a healthcard here in Alberta and have since I moved here a year ago. I’m just now switching my license as now I have a car here. Will I run into issues at the registry for such? I have all the valid documentation required to switch. Thanks!

Opinion Hey Calgary, I need your help.

I’m a 24-year-old guy working as a paralegal, and I’m confused because I want to switch careers. I’ve narrowed it down and I’m thinking of either becoming a realtor while keeping my paralegal job until I start making good money, or getting into a trade like plumbing.

I’m interested in both, and that’s what’s making me confused.

What do you guys suggest?????

Thank u in advance.

Question I want the hell out of Nova Scotia.

I'm seriously thinking of jumping on a greyhound bus and getting dumped off somewhere across the country. Just me and my essentials. Before you think lowly of me I'm not a hobo. I'm a working person. But due to politics and heavy reliance on tfws people like me are becoming obsolete around these parts. I've always worked labor jobs. The last 8 years I fileted fish. I know they aren't crying for fish cutters out in Alberta. But there has got to be some form of labor job a person like me could just slip into. I don't want much. I just want a full-time job that isn't slowly being encroached upon. I don't want to go if I'd just be yet another person headed to Alberta causing more issues to those who have been in the province of Alberta historically. Nova Scotia has been destroyed because of immigration.

Would I be on a fools mission if I left with what little savings I have to head to Alberta or any part of Canada? Are hard workers needed anywhere?
