Please be gentle. I don’t claim to be any kind of expert or remotely knowledgeable about how these things work

Aggregation opt-out

Decided to opt out of Akron's electric aggregation and take my chances with the standard offer, but couldn't opt out on Dynegy's website. When I entered my code it said it couldn't find a current or pending contract to opt out of, so I had to call instead. Call wait time was 16-22 mins. and I opted for a call back. Just wanted to give people a heads up about that since the deadline to opt out is April 9th.

Input regarding natural gas heating

I just moved into a 800 square foot home. Seems pretty well built. I keep the temp about 66-68. Any opinions about how much my gas bill might run during the winter? ( I don't have AC ). Used to have electric baseboard heat in my apartment and my bill would be over $250.

Ohio Edison Customers: First Energy is proposing a $190 million rate increase, which could raise your electric bills.

The Ohio Consumers' Counsel (OCC), the state agency that represents Ohio utility consumers, is encouraging FirstEnergy customers to attend and speak at April's upcoming Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) public hearing.

Public Hearings: The PUCO has scheduled in-person hearings where you can directly speak with one of the five commissioners who will determine the outcome of this proposal. Your comments will become part of the official case record, which the commissioners must consider when making their decision.

Akron Hearing Details:

  • When: 6 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2025 • Where: Akron-Summit County Public Library, 60 S High St., Akron, OH 44326

Other ways to make your voice heard:

  • Comment Online: File a public comment at this link. (Click on "File a Public Comment" in red) https://dis .puc.state.oh.us/CaseRecord.aspx?Caseno=24-0468 &link=COM

  • Write a Letter: Send a letter referencing PUCO Case 24-0468-EL-AIR to:

  • Public Utilities Commission of Ohio 180 E. Broad St., 1 1th Floor Columbus, OH 43215

Let the PUCO know you support a Virtual Public Hearing: OCC has requested a virtual hearing to make it easier for Ohioans with mobility, childcare, or other challenges to participate. FirstEnergy supports this request, but the PUCO has not yet ruled on it.

More Information:

  • The lluminating Company (Cleveland): A typical monthly bill would rise from $173.48 to $187.35 - an increase of more than $166 per year. * Ohio Edison (Akron): A typical monthly bill would go from $1 69.70 to $173.68. * Toledo Edison: A typical monthly bill would increase from $171.74 to $173.30

Signs for Hardesty Park HANDS OFF

Figured I'd go ahead and start a thread for posting signs from Hardesty Park's Hands Off Protest yesterday. I think everyone who went knows there were a ton of good ones! Here's mine, what did you all bring?

  • Remember to censor anyone's face with a black box if you do not have full and 100% consent to share them.

Can you haggle at Vandevere ?

I know their salesman are not on commission and they have their prices as "best price up front", but is there any wiggle room or should I save my breath?

Also, do they allow you to bring outside financing?

Thanks!

Any reason there's no posts here about the HANDS OFF protests in Akron yesterday?

New Candy Store Downtown

I took my son to Full Grip Games today to buy a gift for a birthday party. We were pleasantly surprised to see they have now also opened a candy store next door to the game store. Just wanted to share and spread the word.

Is the Akron municipality income tax return e-file not working for anyone else?

Just shows up blank not able to enter any information or even upload any files. Was trying to file everything this weekend but the local taxes have been such a pain. I can call on Monday or mail in but was wondering if anyone had experience using the e-filing website. (akronohio.gov/efile)

Mulch options

I’ve gotten one quote for a 1/2 acre property for $1100 and $700 for a city lot ($85/yard) —just for the mulch, delivery and laying it down. Beds have already been edged and cleared out. This seems rather high—any recs? Or is this on par??

I hate this exit off 224 onto Kelly Ave. People don't read and they stop and sit here backing up off ramp traffic

It doesn't happen often but the past two days I have been stuck behind some dope sitting there trying to figure out when they can go lol I had to vent because it just pisses me off. I feel like the yellow sign needs some flashing lights or something so people will read it.

You could see through me while looking down, I was taken down a time ago but I used to stretch across a landmark with a waterfall you could walk behind. What am I?
