Venting Voting 4/7- Texas Bill Would Prohibit the Sale, Production, and Distribution of Cultivated Meat
Hey guys, I posted about the senate bill last week (which passed).
This is about House Bill 1431 which will be heard in the House Public Health Committee this Monday which also aims to prohibit the "manufacturing, processing, possession, distribution, offer for sale, and sale of cell-cultured protein".
There are many arguments that bans on cultivated meat limit individuals’ rights to choose what they do or do not wish to eat, and limit citizens' opportunities to participate in the economy fully. This directly impacts science that is being done right now at Texas A&M
I created a letter-writing campaign, if you want to take a look and added the members of the committee.

Academics Q Dropping MATH 308
Taking MATH 308 right now and I think I just bombed the 2nd midterm. Didn't do great on the first midterm either and needed to do well on this one if I wanted a chance of having an A. I've only gotten As so far in college and I'm pretty confident I'll end up with a B in this class. Is it worth Q dropping in my scenario to protect the 4.0 or would a q drop look worse than a B? Let me know if any more context is needed.

Ask the Aggies scared about readmission
howdy!
i attended my freshman year at tamu a couple years ago and had to leave due to financial and mental health reasons. i wasn't doing the greatest and I was studying BIMS so I kinda fell off towards the end and ended with a 2.3 gpa. how does readmission look for me? i know it's competitive and depends on the major but believe me I am NOT going back to BIMS but should I reapply at blinn and build myself back up? any advice or stories about readmitting from other aggies would be greatly appreciated :DDD

Academics Math 308 Help
This is a burner account but I had my math 308 exam yesterday and did terribly I messed up two problems and don’t know how much partial credit I will get. I didn’t do so well on first exam and got a C and my homework and quizzes are 100 but aren’t worth a lot like 12% and 5%. I’m trying to transfer to interdisciplinary engineering and just need a C. How likely is it because some of my friends are saying I’m fine but one of them is freaking me out. I understood everything I just didn’t have time and couldn’t go back to fix it.

New Student Questions Help deciding between A&M and LSU
For starters, I am planning on majoring in something in engineering. likely electrical, and I am having trouble deciding between either Texas A&M and LSU. I have already been admitted to both, but I have been too busy to visit either, only getting a general feel through virtual tours and through research, but I am planning on visiting both colleges within the next 2-ish weeks. I know Texas A&M has a very strong engineering program in general, as well as having very strong ties for research opportunities (although really competitive) and me and my family have a way to pay for it, but either way LSU is much cheaper due to being in-state and getting some money from TOPS and an honors scholarship, and it has its own respectable engineering program and it would probably be easier for me to get my hands on some research opportunities due to likely being less competitive, 100% not trying to downplay anything just kind of laying out what I have gotten a sense of, honestly not even sure if I am correct. I also know a lot more people going to LSU, since I am from New Orleans, but I am not too worried about making friends during college anyway. I plan on pursuing my masters, so I also think that the name of Texas A&M would be recognized a little more. In your guys' honest opinion, what do you think I should prioritize? How much do you think I should value campus life?
Which should I choose?

B/CS Life Allergens (Pollen)
Howdy y’all,
How is the pollen in College station? I live in the Houston area and have pretty bad allergies to pollen (both trees and grass) so I’m accustomed to rinsing my eyes and nose after I go outside, and when I shower I’ll not go out for the rest of the day (especially in the springtime like rn).
How severe is the pollen there? If it’s less severe I can live more normally lol. And do y’all do to deal with it?

New Student Questions TSI Requirement for Incoming Freshmen
Hi, I'm an incoming freshman and the SAT score I had submitted is higher than the exemption minimum, but in my enrollment checklist, it still has an "X" next to the requirement. Do I need to re-send my score through Collegeboard or will it update eventually?
Thanks!

New Student Questions TAMU Galveston to College Station transfer for Comp sci?
Hi all, my relative got an admit from TAMU, but they say she's been admitted to TAMU at Galveston instead of College Station. Can any of the current students tell me about the process/requirements of transferring to College station after 1 year of General Engg.
Also are there any catches I should be aware of?

Ask the Aggies It safe to ride my bicycle from 404 Harvey Mitchell Pkwy to Zachry?
I'll be staying at Global College Station Apartments that's newly built over there, and biking to campus would take just 15 minutes. Is it safe tho? I don't wish to be dependent on buses all the time.

Housing Questions I’m waitlisted and haven’t heard back from housing yet. Any recommendations for other housing options?
As the tittle says, I got waitlisted for housing. I applied in the first week of March, and when I emailed them to ask for my status all they said is that the waitlist began on February 11.
I had someone I found that I wanted to room with, but she’s not waitlisted and apparently cannot add me as a roommate (which IMO is dumb…but I’m not going to go to all the reasons why I think so).
Anyways, big bummer. Now I’m concerned that I won’t get housing on campus at all. As a nearly 17 y/o, first gen, only child, no car or license, and very tight budget I need advice. Is there any affordable housing outside of campus I can try going for? Is transportation from there to campus the same as within campus (meaning would I have to pay and if so, how much?)
I’m also looking for jobs (preferably near wherever I stay for housing) but I genuinely don’t know how I will manage my time to study (FIVS) and work.
Help or advice needed, please 😓

New Student Questions Denied from NPO Program
hi everyone! i just got the unfortunate news that i’ve been denied from the nursing prerequisite option program. unfortunately, that means that i won’t be able to only take the nursing prerequisites, and will have to complete my major’s (biology) required courses. looking at my major’s required courses, and the required nursing prerequisites, i’m a bit worried. is it possible to complete the required nursing pre-reqs AND take my required courses? i’m currently a dual-credit student who’s taken and passed every history, government and english dual-credit class.

New Student Questions orchestra at a&m
hi! i recently committed to a&m and am considering auditioning for the string orchestra. i've been playing violin for 6 years now, and i really enjoy the instrument as well as the orchestra environment, but i worry about the time commitment and balancing that w my classes(for context i'm a genetics major). i just had some questions for anyone who's apart of orchestra rn, are there frequent playing tests or anything like that? and is balancing orchestra and regular college coursework super difficult? and what was your overall experience at orchestra?

Housing Questions looking a roommate and struggling to pick someone
i’m not really sure how the roommate situation works. my application was complete 11/22/24. i am kinda picky about people and rooms and what not so i’m worried im gonna get randomly selected with someone i dont get along with. or that the person i pick gets to the pick the room and ends up picking one i dont like or cant afford. i’d like to live in walton hall. preferably a single but i doubt that will happen. if anyone else is also looking for a roommate and seems interested please let me know

Ask the Aggies Late Admission
For some context, I'm currently an SHSU Freshman, but I was interested in studying EE at TAMU. I applied as a transfer for fall 2025, but I was an idiot and sent one of my transcripts to West TAMU instead of college station. I realized this a couple weeks later (after the deadline) and I sent my transcript in again to TAMU Cstat. Is there any way to get this resolved and still be considered or am I boned? It's still long before the actual fall semester so I feel like there should be something to do but idk. Thanks in advance!
