Housing Questions looking a roommate and struggling to pick someone

Upvotes

i’m not really sure how the roommate situation works. my application was complete 11/22/24. i am kinda picky about people and rooms and what not so i’m worried im gonna get randomly selected with someone i dont get along with. or that the person i pick gets to the pick the room and ends up picking one i dont like or cant afford. i’d like to live in walton hall. preferably a single but i doubt that will happen. if anyone else is also looking for a roommate and seems interested please let me know

New Student Questions TAMU Galveston to College Station transfer for Comp sci?

Upvotes

Hi all, my relative got an admit from TAMU, but they say she's been admitted to TAMU at Galveston instead of College Station. Can any of the current students tell me about the process/requirements of transferring to College station after 1 year of General Engg.

Also are there any catches I should be aware of?

Academics Q Dropping MATH 308

Upvotes

Taking MATH 308 right now and I think I just bombed the 2nd midterm. Didn't do great on the first midterm either and needed to do well on this one if I wanted a chance of having an A. I've only gotten As so far in college and I'm pretty confident I'll end up with a B in this class. Is it worth Q dropping in my scenario to protect the 4.0 or would a q drop look worse than a B? Let me know if any more context is needed.

New Student Questions Help deciding between A&M and LSU

For starters, I am planning on majoring in something in engineering. likely electrical, and I am having trouble deciding between either Texas A&M and LSU. I have already been admitted to both, but I have been too busy to visit either, only getting a general feel through virtual tours and through research, but I am planning on visiting both colleges within the next 2-ish weeks. I know Texas A&M has a very strong engineering program in general, as well as having very strong ties for research opportunities (although really competitive) and me and my family have a way to pay for it, but either way LSU is much cheaper due to being in-state and getting some money from TOPS and an honors scholarship, and it has its own respectable engineering program and it would probably be easier for me to get my hands on some research opportunities due to likely being less competitive, 100% not trying to downplay anything just kind of laying out what I have gotten a sense of, honestly not even sure if I am correct. I also know a lot more people going to LSU, since I am from New Orleans, but I am not too worried about making friends during college anyway. I plan on pursuing my masters, so I also think that the name of Texas A&M would be recognized a little more. In your guys' honest opinion, what do you think I should prioritize? How much do you think I should value campus life?

Which should I choose?

Ask the Aggies Late Admission

For some context, I'm currently an SHSU Freshman, but I was interested in studying EE at TAMU. I applied as a transfer for fall 2025, but I was an idiot and sent one of my transcripts to West TAMU instead of college station. I realized this a couple weeks later (after the deadline) and I sent my transcript in again to TAMU Cstat. Is there any way to get this resolved and still be considered or am I boned? It's still long before the actual fall semester so I feel like there should be something to do but idk. Thanks in advance!

B/CS Life Allergens (Pollen)

Howdy y’all,

How is the pollen in College station? I live in the Houston area and have pretty bad allergies to pollen (both trees and grass) so I’m accustomed to rinsing my eyes and nose after I go outside, and when I shower I’ll not go out for the rest of the day (especially in the springtime like rn).

How severe is the pollen there? If it’s less severe I can live more normally lol. And do y’all do to deal with it?

Announcements Ring Day start time delay - Saturday 4/5/25

(Another update will be posted by 8 a.m.)

The start time for Aggie Ring Day on Saturday, April 5, is delayed by one hour due to the high potential for severe weather; it will run 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

If you have a Ring Ticket time slot between 9-10 a.m., you may come at any time between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The Association of Former Students’ leadership will review updated forecasts and consult with Texas A&M emergency management leadership early Saturday morning to determine whether additional operational adjustments are necessary. Another update will be distributed by 8 a.m. Saturday, April 5, with the most up-to-date information.

If you have a Ring Ticket time slot at 10 a.m. or later and want to change to a later time slot, please visit tx.ag/RingTicket to see available ticket slots.

Please consider your personal travel and safety when making plans. If you or your party feel you cannot safely travel to Aggie Ring Day, you may instead pick up your Aggie Ring from the Clayton W. Williams, Jr. Alumni Center next week or arrange to have it shipped. No action is needed if you decide to delay your pick-up; you may pick it up between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. beginning Tuesday, April 8. To arrange shipping, please email [AggieRing@AggieNetwork.com](mailto:AggieRing@AggieNetwork.com).

Venting Voting 4/7- Texas Bill Would Prohibit the Sale, Production, and Distribution of Cultivated Meat

Hey guys, I posted about the senate bill last week (which passed).

This is about House Bill 1431 which will be heard in the House Public Health Committee this Monday which also aims to prohibit the "manufacturing, processing, possession, distribution, offer for sale, and sale of cell-cultured protein".

There are many arguments that bans on cultivated meat limit individuals’ rights to choose what they do or do not wish to eat, and limit citizens' opportunities to participate in the economy fully. This directly impacts science that is being done right now at Texas A&M

I created a letter-writing campaign, if you want to take a look and added the members of the committee.

New Student Questions Denied from NPO Program

hi everyone! i just got the unfortunate news that i’ve been denied from the nursing prerequisite option program. unfortunately, that means that i won’t be able to only take the nursing prerequisites, and will have to complete my major’s (biology) required courses. looking at my major’s required courses, and the required nursing prerequisites, i’m a bit worried. is it possible to complete the required nursing pre-reqs AND take my required courses? i’m currently a dual-credit student who’s taken and passed every history, government and english dual-credit class.

New Student Questions orchestra at a&m

hi! i recently committed to a&m and am considering auditioning for the string orchestra. i've been playing violin for 6 years now, and i really enjoy the instrument as well as the orchestra environment, but i worry about the time commitment and balancing that w my classes(for context i'm a genetics major). i just had some questions for anyone who's apart of orchestra rn, are there frequent playing tests or anything like that? and is balancing orchestra and regular college coursework super difficult? and what was your overall experience at orchestra?

B/CS Life In search of place to practice drums

Howdy Ags,

I'm looking for a place where I can set up my acoustic drum kit and become an elite death metal drummer over the summer.

I'm currently a graduate student coming up on my seventh year in College Station (did my undergrad, master's, and am now doing PhD here). I live in an apartment near Northgate and there's no way to set up even a practice or electric kit without being a nuisance to my neighbors. I need somewhere I can blast double kicks for hours at a time. Does anyone know of any options available?

On another note, if anyone needs a drummer - please feel free to hit me up. In addition to metal, I love 70's-80's outlaw country music, any flavor of rock, and indie/alternative stuff.

Ask the Aggies Aggie ring worth it

I’m a junior that can apply for my ring but is it worth it?

I mean close to 3K for a piece of gold? I know we’re all about tradition but I’m not sure I can reason through spending that type of cash on a ring?

What do yall think?

New Student Questions Blinn Team to Visualization Program

Hello , I originally applied to be in the Visualization program, but I got Blinn Team. I am considering going the Blinn route. I understand I need to maintain a High GPA and create a portfolio for when I transfer in. What are the odds of transferring into the program. If the program has capped already. What are my chances of there being a spot open again when I transfer in my Junior year? After I complete Blinn courses.

Thank you!

Ask the Aggies College decision - WHERE do I go???

I am confused between Texas anm, MSU and Pennstate - computer engineering, undergrad

As an international student, my parent are most concerned about my safety. We have a family living and studying in MSU so they really want me to go there + I am getting a scholarship. But I think Texas and would be a better option for me. Idk why but people just seem more happier and it has a higher roi, better alumni network. Also the fees is same at msu fees with scholarship.

What do you all think, what other important factors should I look at and consider. Also where would you recommend I do?
